They're listed in the XPH. Does anybody know if they were adapted from a 1st or 2nd Ed source?

As far as official WotC sources go what is written in the XPH is all there is to the Elan. Many have their own theoys about them and one of the more popular varients is that they are the precursors to the Mind Flayers.

EDIT: Here is an interesting thread about the Elans and how Humans became Mind Flayers over on the Psionics boards.

WEll, in my campaign world, after an apocolypse scenerio, there were three types of humaniod.

The humans, dwarves, elves, etc- Those who did not acend into a higher plane.

The Elans- Those who ascended partialy but could not completly ascend.

The Ascended (I'm working on a template for this)- Those who ascended into a greater plane of existence (celestia mostly), but in return could not physically affect the material plane or they would be sent straight to Tateruos (sp?).
