| Clutchbone04-21-07, 11:42 PM | Hi folks, I was wondering if there is an item or feat (etc) that allows a creature with Light Sensitivity to overcome said weakness. Basically, I want to be a Deep Dwarf, but I don't want the downside of it's frail peepers. Do sunglasses exist in D&D? |
| runestar04-21-07, 11:44 PM | Think there is one such pair of sunglasses in races of dragon. Dirt cheap too...:) |
| Clutchbone04-21-07, 11:57 PM | Woo! |
| Kouk04-22-07, 08:53 AM | There is a feat from the Forgotten Realms called Daylight Adaptation. |
| Warforged Goblin04-22-07, 09:29 AM | There are those two ways, and from Races of Eberron there's an item called shaders in the orc entry. Negates the light sensitivty but imposes -1 on Spot. |
| runestar04-22-07, 09:51 AM | I have always wondered why sunglasses never caught on with the drow...:P |
| Part-Human204-22-07, 12:19 PM | There is a feat from the Forgotten Realms called Daylight Adaptation. It also appears in Races of Eberron. |
| Shadowfax704-22-07, 06:24 PM | There is a feat from the Forgotten Realms called Daylight Adaptation. Note that the prerequisite for that feat is Drow. Possibly they revised the prerequisite in Races of Eberron. |
| Alac Luin04-22-07, 06:41 PM | I have always wondered why sunglasses never caught on with the drow...:P Little known fact, Drizzt wears Ray-Bans. |
| Naderion04-22-07, 06:59 PM | Note that the prerequisite for that feat is Drow. Possibly they revised the prerequisite in Races of Eberron. I think it works with every race that suffers from any kind of visual problems with daylight. Also, there's no reason why it shouldn't. |
| Cariyaga04-22-07, 07:05 PM | Little known fact, Drizzt wears Ray-Bans. >_> Yup, that's how he survives up in Ten-Towns, what with the blinding snow, and all. |
| NerdNumber104-22-07, 07:34 PM | The sundark goggles (races of the dragon) cost 10gp and give an added bonus vs. blinding effects and doesn't give any sight penalties to characters with darkvision. You could go dragonborn, but then you lose most racial traits. |
| The Ubbergeek04-22-07, 07:45 PM | Note that the prerequisite for that feat is Drow. Possibly they revised the prerequisite in Races of Eberron. It's strange that it's not offered also for other underdark races... As a DM, I'd allow it for Svirfneblins, Duergars and such too. |
| calronmoonflower04-22-07, 08:18 PM | It's strange that it's not offered also for other underdark races... It was revised to allow any creature with light sensitivity to take it. |
| Necromas04-22-07, 10:17 PM | Wow, they have a feat to replace an item that costs 2sp (I think the cheapest goggles that protect you from light sensitivity are 2sp). |
| The Ubbergeek04-22-07, 10:27 PM | Wow, they have a feat to replace an item that costs 2sp (I think the cheapest goggles that protect you from light sensitivity are 2sp). Such item may not be available everywhere, it's not indestructible, it may be also much costier... |
| Tevin Kevlak04-22-07, 11:29 PM | Such item may not be available everywhere, it's not indestructible, it may be also much costier... No, not really... at a whopping 10 gold it costs far less (in terms of character resources) to just buy like 50 pairs of them than it is to use a feat to overcome the same thing. |
| Bauglir04-23-07, 06:27 PM | The goggles beat Light Sensitivity, as I recall. Drow have Light Blindness, which is nastier on the character too (dazed for the first round, then dazzled), as opposed to the penalties for Light Sensitivity (dazzled for the first round, then the character is fine). The goggles do nothing for those with Light Blindness, such as Drow, who need to take the feat or work something out with their DM (I think the -1 spot goggles might do it, though). BTW, don't quote me on those light-related penalties, I'm not sure that those are the exact ones. |
| calronmoonflower04-24-07, 02:38 AM | Plus goggles can be targeted by Shatter. |
| ChibiQueso04-24-07, 09:06 AM | So what you're saying is that I can have an in game and mechanic reason for a drow to yell "The goggles, they do nothing!" I might include drow in my next campaign just for that. |
| BugHunter04-24-07, 09:13 AM | Note that the prerequisite for that feat is Drow. Possibly they revised the prerequisite in Races of Eberron. It was revised in the Players Guide to Faerun to include dwarves, elves, kuo-toa and orcs from specific regions. Even the FRCS states gray dwarf (aka duergar) and orc. |
| Naderion04-24-07, 10:38 AM | Wow, they have a feat to replace an item that costs 2sp (I think the cheapest goggles that protect you from light sensitivity are 2sp). Such item may not be available everywhere, it's not indestructible, it may be also much costier... Also, it can be a bit frustrating. It's like going swimming with a life vest. You won't take the feat if you just come up for a raid every couple of years, but it becomes very attractive if you decide to live at the surface for good. |
| Perun04-24-07, 10:43 AM | It was revised in the Players Guide to Faerun to include dwarves, elves, kuo-toa and orcs from specific regions. Even the FRCS states gray dwarf (aka duergar) and orc. It was later errata-ed (the Player's guide to Faerūn can be downloaded here (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/er/20040125a)): Page 37: Daylight Adaptation [Regional] Feat Daylight Adaptation is no longer a regional feat. The Prerequisites section the Special section at the end should be ignored and deleted. |
| Ogg04-24-07, 10:48 AM | Yes, there's a Feat. Daylight Adaptation. It's in Forgotten Realms Campaign book, as well as Races of Faerun book. It's a regional feat for dark races. There's also a spell. I's in Spell Compendium too under Drow Cleric Domain. Level 1 that lets you ignore that too. Here from this site Cloak of Dark Power: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/glossary&term=Glossary_dnd_Drowdomain&alpha= Deities: Eilistraee, Kiaransalee, Lolth, Selvetarm, Vhaeraun. | runestar04-24-07, 10:52 PM | Note that daylight adaptation has been errata'ed to become a general feat, rather than a regional feat.:) |
| Darth Krieg04-25-07, 02:52 AM | "The goggles, they do nothing!" The funniest thing i have ever heard in regards to D&D. i was laughing for 20 minutes |
