Let's say a fighter has a -3 intelligence bonus. Normally he gets (2-3)*4 skill points at level 1, which is rounded up to the minimum of 4. If he's a human, does he get (2+1-3)*4 skill points, i.e. still 4, or (2-3)*4 + 4 skill points, i.e. 8? Thanks. |

| Silversheen19711-02-07, 01:43 PM | I usually pretend it means your Int bonus is 1 higher than actual only for determining skill points (it's easier for me to think of it like that), but in your example, that doesn't quite work: youd have to apply the bonus skill points after you do the equation, so it would become ((2-3, min 1)X4)+4 at 1st, and ((2-3, min 1)+1 at all others. |
| imakuni6711-02-07, 01:47 PM | At first level in your example, you'd have 2 fighter skill points - 3 INT of skills for -1 skills at the 1st level. However you learn at least 1 skill point per level which is then multiplied by 4, after which you gain 4 bonus human skill points for a grand total of 8 skill points at first level. At each additional level you gain 1 fighter skill per level and 1 bonus human skill for 2 skill points per level. |
| Orenmir11-02-07, 02:31 PM | At each additional level you gain 1 fighter skill per level and 1 bonus human skill for 2 skill points per level. Skill points for a Fighter (with Int. mod of -3) after 1st level... 2 + Intelligence modifier 2 + (-3) = -1 Add the human bonus of 1 point = 0 If he wasn't human, would he have to subtract a skill point every level? Can he be so dumb his skills get worse? J/k -- I'm sure there's a rule about "minimum 1 point per level" that I'm missing somewhere. |
| imakuni6711-02-07, 02:46 PM | You apply your character’s Intelligence modifier to: The number of languages your character knows at the start of the game. The number of skill points gained each level. (But your character always gets at least 1 skill point per level.) The human race give "one extra skill point per level". Note that it doesn't say "Calculate your skills as though your intelligence were 2 higher". You gain the extra skill points from being human as though you are taking the Open Minded feat. |
| LarryLaffer11-02-07, 09:22 PM | Humans gain 4 extra skill points at level 1 and then 1 extra skill point every level after. ((Class's skill points + int bonus) x 4 ) + 4 at level 1 (Class's skill points + int bonus) +1 at every level after fighter lv 1, int of 12: ((2 class + 1 int) x 4 ) + 4= 16 skill points fighter lv 2, int of 12: (2 class + 1 int) + 1= 4 skill points |
| Sinfire Titan11-02-07, 09:32 PM | Skill points for a Fighter (with Int. mod of -3) after 1st level... Check the MM, if you missed it. It would be in the back. |
