| Hideous Phidias06-22-07, 01:09 AM | Simple Question I just about to make a Rogue3 swashbuckler 17 character for a city campaign and can not decide on the race. Human or whisper gnome? I have the build settled but it could work for both. The character is a knife fighter, using Darts, Daggers, and a Dagger-whip. So what do you guys think? |
| AAB06-22-07, 01:27 AM | whisper gnomes are amazing. amazing, i tell you. |
| Hideous Phidias06-22-07, 01:37 AM | Trust me I know, But humans are good too. Human-feat-able learner Whisper Gnome-feat-titan fighting |
| AAB06-22-07, 01:47 AM | your whisper gnome would have a +2 better attack bonus than the human (+1 size, +1 racial dex bonus) and would have +2 better armor class (size and dex) and the same speed. they're amazing. (can't believe they don't have a LA) |
| The_Shaman06-22-07, 05:56 AM | I think the gnome may do a little better - you get good attack bonuses, negligible damage penalties (-1 at most, with these weapons) but your main source of damage is the SA anyway. I presume Daring Outlaw is included in the combo. Do you use the CW or the PHBII swashie variant? |

Whisper gnone is so good it's downright silly, but able learner gives you every rogue skill as a class skill and makes a few ranks of every knowledge affordable. Is there a rogue in the party? If not, able learner lets you take max ranks in skills like search, open lock, or use magic device. Able learner will allow you to be the party rogue. I'd personally go human, but I love a lot of skills. You cannot go wrong with whisper gnome though. *edit* another point worth mentioning, some big drawbacks of being small are lost attack and damage from strength, lost weapon damage, and lost speed. The lost strength is no big deal when you use dex to attack and int to damage, the lost weapon damage is lessened with a dagger (use a kukri) when it's only going from d4 to d3, and you don't lose the speed. For how little you give up you get +2 to both attack and ac (racial dex and size). On top of that whisper gnome has a bunch of other stuff. It's a great situation. |
| Hideous Phidias06-22-07, 06:43 PM | I guess I am the rogue. One of the guys is going some sorta fey out of one of the dragon magazine that is rogue like and he plans on taking levels in it too. But he will not be done his savage species type levels until level sixteen. Other then that we have a cleric of trickery, a sorcerer/magic missile mage, and maybe another fighter type. |
