| DarkSamuraiKyo02-25-07, 02:42 PM | :help: In my Campaign i'm working on I want a race that are Dragons trapped in humanoid form problem is I don't know what the stats will be can any one help? I'm trying to make a race with a Dragon feel but around the size of a human I have included an idea I've been tossing around below Shaikan Racial Traits: +20 Str. +21 Dex +30 Con + 27 Int. +27 Wis. +27 Cha Shaikan are powerful individuals and are considered to be one of the most powerful races in the world. + 5 natural Armor Bonus Medium Size: neither penalty nor bonus due to size Shaikan's base land speed is 80ft Magical senses: A Shaikan can see the auras of Magical items and spellcasters a Shaikan can decipher the magic’s origins (Battle Magic, Necromancy, etc.) this sense can be used at will. Keen senses: A Shaikan sees four time as well as a human in shadowy illumination, normal illumination, and no illumination at all Blind Sense: Shaikan can pinpoint creatures within a distance of 60 feet. Opponents the Shaikan can’t actually see still have total concealment against the Shaikan . Racial Levels: A Shaikan begins with three levels of Dragon which provide 3d12 hit dice, and a base attack of +3, bases of +3fort +3Ref +3will, A Shaikan's Dragon levels gives it Skill points equal to 6 X (6+intelligence Modifier), Skills are Intimidate, Jump, Knowledge (Arcana), Listen, Sense Motive Spellcraft, Spot, Survival, Swim, and use Magic Device. A Shaikan's Hit Dice gives it two feats. Weapon and Armor Proficiency: A Shaikan's Dracoid levels grants them Proficiency with all simple and martial weapons and Proficiency with light and medium armor. Natural-Weapons: Due to their incredible strength their unarm attacks deal 1d8 points of non-lethal damage (for creatures lighter and/or weaker then the Shaikan fortitude save of DC Shaikan's Str Modifier + 5 or be thrown back) Special Attacks: Draconic Power: Each Shaikan Species has its own Draconic power which they can use at will for any purpose they can logically use that power for (such as a Gold or Red Shaikan using their power to start a camp fire) This ability is at will. However If used for offensive purposes (Attacking) it is consider a standard action and once a Shaikan uses its Draconic power it can’t use it again until 1d4 rounds later. If a Dragoon is a species that has more than one Draconic power it still can only attack with a Draconic Power once every 1d4 rounds the damage is 12d10(No saves) per target hit by the attack. Special Qualities: Natural Regeneration: A Shaikan due to their draconic bloodline is able to heal wounds inflicted upon them, they gain +12 regeneration (per round). Frightful presence: At will or when angered a Shaikan can unsettle foes with its mere presence, creatures with in 30’+ Shaikan's Charisma modifier are must make a will save of (DC 10 + Dragoon’s Cha. Mod) or be under fear status ailment (All rolls are at a -10). Those who resist this aura can’t be affected by it for 24 hours. Shaikan are immune to other Shaikan Frightful presence. Immunities & Weaknesses: Dracoids: Shaikan are Dragons in humanoid form and as such they are affected by spells and magic items that affect Dragons Immunity to attacks of their Draconic Powers origin (EX: A Gold Dragoon is immune to Fire due to his Draconic Power being fire), and against magical sleep and paralysis effects. Weaknesses: Shaikan who wield Elemental Draconic Powers are vulnerable to the opposing Element (Gold Shaikan control Fire thus Water base damage is doubled) also Shaikan are weak against a rare metal known only as Blood Star Metal(can't think of better name right now) when struck by Blood Star Metal a Shaikan's natural regeneration is negated for 24 hours after the metal if in the form of a arrow or bullet is removed, lastly anything that affects a Dragon affects them Favorite Class: Haven't decided still working on stats |
| MagicMouth02-25-07, 05:07 PM | Cool concept. Well, with those monstrously high ability score adjustments, I think you need a higher number of racial HD. That´s the way things work as far as I´ve seen, anyway. By the way, stat modifiers are always in even numbers, so I´d say they would be: Str +20, Dex +20, Con +30, Int +26, Wis +26, Cha +26. You do realize that this may easily put their ability scores even above those of Great Wyrms? |

| MagicMouth02-26-07, 12:12 PM | Thanks and how many Racial Hit dice do you think I need to add? Stats are even?!?!? and now I realize that they will beat the great wyrms so what should I do? Well, I´m hardly a big wiz when it comes to advanced race creation, but... Other creatures with the same amount of power would likely have at least 12 HD, probably more, if you compare with the things in the various Monster Manuals for example. If you want this to be an actual player race without a MASSIVE Effective Character Level I´d suggest you decrease the stats radically. Decreasing the Regenration and/or replacing it with Fast Healing would probably be a good choice. In the end I don´t really know what you want. Is it supposed to be a "normal" race or some kind of super creatures far above lesser beings? |
| wonlee7602-26-07, 12:33 PM | Shaikan Racial Traits: +20 Str. +21 Dex +30 Con + 27 Int. +27 Wis. +27 Cha Shaikan are powerful individuals and are considered to be one of the most powerful races in the world. As someone mentioned, Racial bonuses to stats are even numbers. Never odd numbers. Keen senses: A Shaikan sees four time as well as a human in shadowy illumination, normal illumination, and no illumination at all Just to nit pick but if a human cannot see in "no illumination", the whole seeing four times better equals 0. Maybe just give them low light vision and darkvision to make your life easier. Maybe even change the wording in both to give better versions of Darkvision or Low Light Vision. Considering the massive bonuses and benefits, 3 HD seems kind of low for one of the most "powerful individuals and are considered to be one of the most powerful races in the world." The draconic HD should be increased a bit to reflect that they are naturally powerful. Natural-Weapons: Due to their incredible strength their unarm attacks deal 1d8 points of non-lethal damage (for creatures lighter and/or weaker then the Shaikan fortitude save of DC Shaikan's Str Modifier + 5 or be thrown back) You may want to make the DC equal to most other abilities in the MM. 10 + 1/2 Racial HD + Strength Modifier. As for who this ability could effect, may as well just say a creature of equal or smaller size than the Shaikan. Special Attacks: Draconic Power: Each Shaikan Species has its own Draconic power which they can use at will for any purpose they can logically use that power for (such as a Gold or Red Shaikan using their power to start a camp fire) This ability is at will. Why call it draconic power. just give the race a Breath Weapon and call it a day. I do not recommend giving this ability no save associated with it. That's just too cheap. Special Qualities: Natural Regeneration: A Shaikan due to their draconic bloodline is able to heal wounds inflicted upon them, they gain +12 regeneration (per round). Maybe just a mix up of terminology but this sounds more like fast healing then regeneration especially considering you never identify what could cause lethal damage to a Shaikan meaning these guys are essentially immune to damage since they can recover from it eventually. Fast Healing just heals any damage so long as the creature has more than 0 HP. Overall, this is an obscenely powerful race. I have no idea where to peg the ECL at. It depends on how many racial HD you eventually decide on. In total, I would estimate this race has epic like abilities. Fast Healing 12, loads of special abilities, a no save breath weapon, massive stat boosts, etc. etc. That is probably your intention (a very powerful race) but its hard to balance. My suggestion is tone down the stats (halving them might be a good start but still pretty powerful) and abilities or just remove a few abilities to try to make it a playable non-epic race. |

| NerdNumber102-27-07, 02:10 PM | These things are insane! A commoner of one of those could level a city. I suggest you tone this race down drastically if you expect to run a non-epic game. Find a creature that has stats near you and modify it so you don't go too far. |

Find a creature that has stats near you and modify it so you don't go too far. In traditional D&D (where technology is swords and bows) yes they will level a city but in my campaign world they won't yes they are the most powerful race but their are MANYother creatures that can prove to even be difficult for them to handle and the technology level is way way WAY up so their power isn't that great in my campaign |
| WinterPsionic02-27-07, 05:10 PM | Your forgetting the LA of about +12...and I think you meant 13 levels of Dragon....not 3 and what's with the 6x Skill Points? Do dragons have a different skill mechanic? | Kurama Youko02-27-07, 08:03 PM | Hmmm Breath of Fire 1-4 was such great games. :) |
| WinterPsionic02-27-07, 09:36 PM | Sorry my bad I'll fix that wasn't paying attention the Skill points were from the Dracotuars (MM3) so if I mess that up please show me the correct way Ok so just so you know for future creations it's 6 for a Dracotaur because the first HD of the 3 gives 4x(the normal for any starting creature) and the 2 more for the 2nd and 3rd HD respectively. So in your case it should be 16x(6+Int Mod) |
| KurenaiYami02-27-07, 09:46 PM | Wow, these things are awesome. I would seriously use these as the unholy, death-bringing, end-of-the-world monster in my campaign. Seems like just the sort of thing to put the fear of gods into my Players. |

If so here's the Link Breath of Fire D20 KurenaiYami I'm glad you like them feel free to use them |

| DarkSamuraiKyo04-09-07, 09:34 PM | got tired of looking for this :bump: |
| gallatorix04-10-07, 02:03 AM | I've got an idea. Why dont you build a stat line for it, sort of like a PrC. For every racial HD they take (representing age of dragons) they get certain ability score bonuses, special qualaties and special attacks. So you just work it off one of the dragon tables in MM or something, and build the race from there. But it has to have some type of common LA, like 3 or 4. That would really take down its power, or boost it depending on how many Racial HD you take. But for it to work you would have to make the HD like LA. The character picks a certain amount of HD for himself, and he has to gain levels to pay it off. Just a Thought |
| DarkSamuraiKyo04-10-07, 08:19 AM | :plotting: hmmm......sounds interesting maybe I should bump this more often I'm getting good ideas:D |
