>Favored Class: Any. When determining whether a multiclass human takes an experience point penalty, his or her highest-level class does not count. <

I was wondering if instead of this i could just choose my favorite class?
Since humans are so adaptable and all that, which give them the extra feet and skill points, couldn’t they choose which class is their favorite?

sorry if this is the wrong area to post this.

Why would you want to choose it when it can be any? Having it as any offers way more of an advantage.

A Human doesn't get to choose its favored class.

Someone may have a character that has a level distribution along the lines of 2/8/8. If the level 2 class were favored there'd be no penalty, but since a Human favors one of the higher classes, it'd be a level 8 class and get a penalty.

I think that in the PHB, it says taht a humans highest class is considered its favoured class; if it has 2 class that are the highest level, then either one can be the favoured one; and if one class was the highest level, but then was maybe second highest level, the favoured class changes to the new highest one.

This is just from memory, but I'm pretty sure I saw it somewhere......

Humans don't get extra feet... they have 2

on a serious note... I don't see that as an unreasonable houserule. Afterall, that's the racial feature that's the weakest feature of all that humans have.

...Favored Class:Any may be the weakest racial trait the human has(opposed to A Bonus Feat with which new/additional favored classes can be choosen...) or the extra skill points which are nice but IMHO 9/10 of the time is the weakest of the traits, but it's still a pretty high end trait IMHO.

Sounds reasonable to me... but it is a slight power boost to a powerful core race. Up to the DM, really.

Powerful? YabbaTheWhat rated Humans as only 10 FP. I'd say once every X levels, you can change your favored class. Unless you do so, the favored class ability functions as in the PHB.

Yes, and I think that there is an error in Yaba's calculations for the Human:

• 4 extra skill points at 1st level and 1 extra skill point at each additional level. [3.5 FP]
• Automatic Language: Common. Bonus Languages: Any (other than secret languages, such as Druidic). See the Speak Language skill.
• Favored Class: Any. When determining whether a multiclass human takes an experience point penalty, his or her highest-level class does not count. [0.5 FP]
Total = 10 FP

The human feat option is worth as much as the most powerful feat they can buy with it. The four skill points at 1st level are worth 2FP (1/2 FP each), just like skill bonuses. The remaining 1 point every 2 levels are worth more than 1 FP combined, but less than 2, because the value of a feature is divided by 2 for every 2 levels the race must wait to achieve it. (My original posted version didn't cover the reduction from delay.)

It seems that +1 skill point per level should be worth more than 1.5 FPs. Going by Yaba's system, it should be at least 5 FPs, for a total of 13.5 FPs, which puts it up there with Dwarves and Elves.

I can never have enough skill points. The skill points have always been a great advantage for any character I've had.

On the other hand, I've never had a character in which I've used Favored Class: Any other than my Jade Phoenix Mage... and even then, I could have been an elf, or any other of the plethora of races that have wizard as a favored class, or with a houserule replace "Favored Class: Fighter" with "Favored Class: Warblade" if the DM feels that it's appropriate... as my group has apopted and enjoys the ToB.

From an optimization point of veiw, the only point that makes "favored class: any" over "favored class: One of the two classes you're taking" is when you're going with 3 classes, and the highest switches between them throughout your course of leveling up.

Those skill points though, spent wisely, will always help any character.

But, I base my opinion on my experience and playstyle, so YMMV.

Most of my human characters have oddly never seen play, so I can't judge the skill points accurately. But I stand by my opinion (about the favored class), at least in theory.
