EDIT: it still needs a creature Type and a favored class. |
| isreal11-06-07, 01:11 PM | Thanks Bahumut. I added a favored class and made them Monsterous Humanoid. |
| nlessdreamer05-11-08, 04:42 AM | If I had someone to play with I'd love to play test this race as an undying warrior. If anyone has time to do it I'd love to hear how it works out. |
| ragoftag05-11-08, 09:39 AM | Okay, point by point: Shiand Good name, does not sound too much like any others in the common rangs. Description: The Shiands are a small race of 6 limbed creatures. 4 of their limbs are as human arms. They (the arms) are positioned even across (at?) the shoulders(,) one set behind the other. The rear set of arms is normally quite longer. Their legs are as humans but instead of having feet they have another set of hands. They are double jointed in all their joints. Their heads may spin 1080 degrees (180 degrees) either way from center. They are extremely flexible. They stand roughly 3' to 3'6" feet tall. Their skin are different shades of Greenish Gray. Their eyes are a deep black. They have short thick hairs all over their bodies that help them move as they burrow. They have gills on there chest and back. Their teeth are all sharp. They have long curved shovel like claws on all six hands. Diet: They eat their food raw. They eat fish, birds and eggs. Alignment: They can be any alignment but are usually chaotic. They are not evil creatures by nature and most are neutral. Racial Traits: Monstrous Humanoid Small Size -2 Str,-2 Wis, -2 Cha They are weaker than humans. They have a tendency to no pay attention. They are not well liked and sometimes considered vile. (why?) -2 on all Cha based checks with any creature that lives in a city. +4 on jump, climb, and swim checks Land speed 20 (normal for Small creatures) Swim speed 20 (twice normal at least, but you probably mean 4x normal!) Climb speed 20 (twice normal at least, but you probably mean 4x normal!) Burrow speed 10 (this is a big plus) Favored Class: Rogue LA +0? Now for my lame LA opinion: 1-The 2 extra limbs are not detailed enough to really evaluate. If all they can do is Aid the other pair, then they are a minor plus at best, certainly not a +1 LA, but if they can be used as additional 'off hands', at least a +1 is warranted. If they count as additional primary hands, I would inflict a +1 LA each. 2-What game effect does the head's rotation actually impart? RAW grants the equivalent of 360 vision to one and all. If this prevents Flanking, a +1 is in order. 3-Three Stat penalties with no bumps? Ouch! That should rate a -1 right there. Still, they would make wicked Rogues and positively lethal Wizards. 4-Bahumut puts Small down as a minus to LA, but it is both too common among RAW races and not seriously different in power from Medium. No LA. 5-Any extra movement type is worth a +1, I have been told. I really prefer to go case by case. Even a 10 foot Burrow is an effective teleport from level 1. Add serious bumps in Swim and Climb and I would have to go +2 LA for movement. Now for a few questions: 1-The gills, are they ornamental or do the actually work? You only mention them and nowhere do you grant an ability to breathe underwater. We're looking at another +1 LA. 2-Their teeth are all sharp. They have long curved shovel like claws on all six hands.I may have missed the natural attacks granted by at least 7 (!) pointy, cutty, hurty body parts. As rogues (Favored Class), can they use any of these for their SA? I can see these fitting in with the Burrowing and Swim/Climb flavor wise, but any player is going to want to use these as weapons. Just think what a bonus to Escape they would have! 3-Vile? I can see a fairly humanoid world seeing them as scary, but 'Monstrous Humanoid' would not justify 'vile'. Perhaps making them Aberrations would be a better feel. Unfortunately, that would grant a host of effective immunities, Darkvision of 60 feet and make them Proficient with those natural weapons. At least a +2 LA, unless you trim it back some. The 'vile' label might justify an even greater penalty to urban folks' reaction. 4-The concept of 'hands' does not work well with 'long curved shovel like claws'. Doing finesse work with a trowel on every finger would be bad. Still, an interesting race. I want to see where you take it with fluff (culture, origin, gods, etc.). They are certainly not shaping up to be 'humans in monster suits'. As to the whole 'Vile' aspect, having city folk consider them to be a Aberration version of giant termites could be considered. Baby eaters, thieves and burrowing vandals, just to name a few of the crimes they could be accused of. Good start! |
| ciaran05-11-08, 02:06 PM | Add a +2 to Dex. Most small creatures have good dexterity. |
