| Orenmir03-14-08, 04:47 PM | After a battle do rouges always get first dips on items after the battle ? -- I just wanted to add that in for ya. ;) Are you talking about after a battle, or after the battle? :P Also, the word you're looking for is dibs, not dips. I'm assuming this is a question about fluff/flavor, because there is absolutely no rule saying who gets first pick of the party loot. So, to directly answer your question with another question... Why on middle earth would they? And, what the heck is this question doing in the "Races" forum? Rogue is a class. |
| big_josh_0603-14-08, 05:02 PM | Thanks for the anwser and I thought I was posting in class forum because i was in hurry. so how do you determine how in what order people get to take the post battle items. |

| key03-14-08, 05:06 PM | I always prioritize not angering party members who may kill me at any moment over calling first dibs on loot. |
| The_Ditto03-14-08, 05:16 PM | Any group I've ever been in has been pretty good at sorting items out by usefulness "priority". That is, if there is only 1 arcane caster in the party, he gets the wand of magic missiles without too much fuss nor bother. (Occasionally a rogue [not rouge] will request one due to a disgustingly high Use Magic Device, but no big deal ..). If there is more than 1 person who can use an item, we usually "talk it out" .. yep, that's right ... actually discussion ..and often it's, "Ok, you take this one, I'll grab the next one" .. or often there are 2 items they can both use (ie a wizard and a sorcerer, and 2 wands ... "Ok, 1 each ...") I've never been in (and hope never to be in) groups that steal from each other, call "dibs" (ala Knights of the Dinner Table ... heh) or kill each other for items ... .. wait .. I take that back .. I did play in an evil campaign ... ... once ... ;) |
| Mindolin03-14-08, 05:28 PM | The way my group does it is that my character, the Barbarian, takes it, because he's pretty much the party leader. Thereafter, upon discovering what we have, my character divides it upon who needs it. The only real exception is a Cloak of Resistance +1 that my group found in The Burning Plague. My barbarian claimed it because 1: the Kobold tribe belonged to him, since he had gotten the kobold cheiftain to swear loyalty to him, and 2: because my character provided the sleeping bag for the kobolds to use as a blanket, replacing the Cloak of Resistance. |
| ciaran03-14-08, 05:50 PM | That specific example sounds like a good role-playing split. My group mostly does what The_Ditto said above Sadly, there are those who tell the DM they're searching THE VERY SECOND we leave initiative (while others retrieve weapons, heal others, etc...) and, as things sometimes get lost in the wash, those people end up with a little more. It sucks. Also, we have a player who likes to play Wizards. He always has Identify on his spell list. He demands that all magic items come to him so he can identify them. Again, things being lost in the wash, he always ends up with more than others in the group. These problems, one could argue, aren't worth the arguments that could come of them. But you need to be able to speak up if you feel taken advantage of. If your thread had nothing to do with this then please disregard. |
