| Lord_Cerventes04-29-07, 07:22 PM | I'm looking for a race with a high base land speed and a low lvl adjustment if possible. If no one knows of one, what are the best classes/items to use to obtain a high land speed. Thanks.:) |
| KingGolem04-29-07, 08:18 PM | Well the first thing that comes to mind are the Varags from MM4. They're a super-fast race of goblinoids that have a base land speed of 60ft and an LA of +2 for that and other things. Alternatively, they have a Varag racial class included with them. |
| Shadowhowler04-29-07, 09:29 PM | CatFolk have a +4 dex +2 cha and a base land speed of 40. LA +1. Xeph have a +2 Dex and 3 times a day can 'burst' with a level based bounes to their land speed, and have no LA. About all I can think of without BIG LA adjustments. |
| Rerecros04-29-07, 09:38 PM | long stride shifters, LA+0 |
| TheAngryFish04-29-07, 09:44 PM | Kobolds have a high land speed, at least for their size category :P |
| Raxmei04-30-07, 10:19 AM | Nezumi from Oriental Adventures have 40ft speed and no LA. |
| Zuractai04-30-07, 10:48 AM | Quickling template! It doesn't realy fit into your low LA though, since it has a +5, but it quadruples the base creatures speed, along with a bunch of other things. |
| mercboy66604-30-07, 11:33 AM | you can have a fast race if u take the barbarian class or the monk class. |
| Lord_Cerventes04-30-07, 05:35 PM | Thanks for the suggestions. I like the Catfolk. On another note, is there an item that is similar to Boots of Striding that increase land speed more than 10ft? |
| Part-Human204-30-07, 05:36 PM | The Shadow template (LoM) increases base speed by 50%. |
| AffableDoomwalker04-30-07, 05:38 PM | Kobold Barbarian. For the win. |
| AffableDoomwalker04-30-07, 05:40 PM | Or, if you're playing FRCS, a Human Barbarian with the Shade Template. |
| Lord_Of_The_Abyss04-30-07, 05:49 PM | Well the first thing that comes to mind are the Varags from MM4. They're a super-fast race of goblinoids that have a base land speed of 60ft and an LA of +2 for that and other things. Alternatively, they have a Varag racial class included with them. Funny, mine's also from MM4, i don't think they're playable however, but it's the nagatha for me, it has something called viper's speed which gives a 40ft. bonus on speed whenever it takes two move actions to move twice it's land speed, allowing it to move up to 100ft. with two move actions or run up to 200ft.!!!......all at an LA+2!!!!!!! |
| Cariyaga04-30-07, 05:54 PM | I like Catfolk too. Low LA, high speed, great Dex bonus and a Charisma bonus. I never really understood the Charisma...I guess everyone loves cats! |
| Lord_Zeb04-30-07, 05:59 PM | There is also the Trait Quick in the Unearthened Arcana (p. 89) that grants you +10 movement for a -1 hp/level penalty. (One must also have a minimum of Con 4 for this Trait.) This can be compensated by Improved Toughness Feat (granting +1 hp/lvl), so one could basically say that it takes a Feat to gain it.;) Traits are Background Feats that give you basically a free positive modifier for a free negative modifier, and you can have one or possibly 2 from the start, with the permission of the DM. And do not cost any Feat slots. They are there mainly for some flavor to the character, to specialize him more according to a roleplaying line of giving him "unique" untrainable abilities. Quick is one of the more powerful and hintering of the Traits, most others only grant and give minor bonuses and penalties. Otherwise, the Scout class is a good buy for speed, as then you actually also have a use for all that speed with the extra Skirmish damage it confers. |
| The_Shaman04-30-07, 06:12 PM | There are some regional feats for speed... FRCS had swiftfooted (iirc) that gave a +10 ft/round speed bonus to some humans, elves, or half-elves. Catfolk ranger/scouts can be pretty mean imo... Catfolk pounce can be quite harsh. |
| KurenaiYami04-30-07, 06:46 PM | There's also the Quick trait from Unearthed Arcana. +10 base land speed, -1 hit point per level. (Apparently I was beaten to it. My bad.) |
| DreamerInsane04-30-07, 06:52 PM | Duskling from Magic of Incarnum. They can increase their speed by investing essentia, and have a point of it to boot. |
| Captain_Cookies04-30-07, 07:55 PM | i personaly prefer dogs to cats dogfolk would be pretty sweet |
| Lord_Cerventes04-30-07, 08:20 PM | Wow, that Quick trait was exactly what i was looking for. Thanks alot! |
