It came up a while ago in a topic about the best race for a rogue. I believe it was called the skulk or something like that. It had a crazy modifier to hide and MS, something like +10. I believe it was in Races of Destiny, and it was a human offshot or something.

Yesm Skulk would be the best. Something like innate non-detection and move a tfull speed without any penalty to hide is just amazing. If you want a really sthealthy character, toss in a dark template from tome of magic, it gives some nice hide and move silently bonuses too and hide in plain sight. I had one dark skulk rogue to go against my players. They had no idea where it hit. It had something like +47 hide at level 10.

So I was right it is in RoD? What kinda of LA are we talking here? And any more super cool steath abilities?

And I give you a pat on the back for knowing about the dark template. :P

Skulk (in races of destiny and monster manual 2) has ECL of 5 IIRC. 2 racial hd and +3 LA. Dark creature is +1 LA. There also is sharad-kai in fiend folio, which is a shadow-tied fey. Sharad-kai basically has all the abilities of dark creature and some nice ability modifiers too.

Shadow-Walker template from Unapproachable East gives a Hide Bonus in shadowy areas, Dex Bonus and Darkvision, as well as a good few SLA's based on shadow and/or darkness (+Dimension Door for some reason, but it's good fro stealth types). All that at the cost of a bit of Con and Light Sensitivity (and a +1 LA)...it's a win template for Stealth-Rogues IMO. Gives access to the Telflammar Shadowlord PrC too, which is made of win for assassin-types.

The Chameleonic Creature template from Underdark gives a +10 racial bonus to Hide I think (plus some other stuff too).

Both are from the Forgotten Realms setting though (so need DM approval for non-FR games).

Dark creature template. Tome of Magic. Offers you Hide in Plain Sight in any illumination save for complete daylight. and speed bonus. And Hide. And Move Silently. And some minor Cold Resistance. LA +1.

So Dark Skulk wins the game, I believe. 2 HD, LA +2 worth that, IMHO. You can't be spotted or scried, can Hide in plain sight without reducing your 40-ft base speed. What not to love?

There's also a template in the Races of Faerun (another Faerun book of course) called Shade (page 147). It's a +4 LA that's pretty much a human only template due to backstory/history (I made a tiefling Shade character with a more abstract one that still made some sense with the campaign I joined in.) Got tons of benefits that can only be used in shadows and darkness like Con and Cha increases, a hefty speed increase, bunches of SLA (such as control light and invisibility every round), fast healing, Spell Resistance, and the ability to see through any darkness (even magical, which is why I went with the Tiefling route; with the right feats you can have 5 darkness uses per day as a SLA and see through it).

Don't forget the Shadar-kai out of fiend folio. Hide in plain sight is a hard ability to pass up in a race. Also the race get's good skills, sneak attack, and it's only a +1 level bump for 3D6 HD at 4th level.

Skulk (in races of destiny and monster manual 2)
Are you sure it's in MM2? I have it and didn't see it.

If it wasn't MM2, then it must've been in fiend folio. I always mix those books!

Yes, Armoracia, it was reprinted there as I said in my first post.

Hey how many different kinds of warforged are there? I really like the idea of a thief that doesn't need to sleep or eat (week long stakeouts :P ) I only have the MM3, and the scout sucks. I read a post elsewhere about a huge warforged titan, and that got me wondering. How many other varieties there are?
