| Drow6407-14-07, 08:32 PM | Half-undead. Can you guys help me out? Cause I'm new. |
| JellyPooga07-14-07, 08:51 PM | How, fluff-wise, do you explain a Half-Undead? Tell me that and I'll help you with the mechanics.;) |
| Drow6407-14-07, 09:32 PM | If an undead and a living mate, then what would the baby be? |
| TaiSharShaidar07-14-07, 09:39 PM | You could just use the Half-vampire as your base and modify it to the undead you wanted. |
| JellyPooga07-14-07, 09:56 PM | If an undead and a living mate, then what would the baby be? I, personally, would say that the Undead could not have a child with a living person...the two concepts just don't really mix. If I were to allow it; on the assumption that it is two members of the same race, just that one's undead (via the Necropolitan template or whatever), then I would rule that the offspring is just a normal member of that race...no better or worse off for it's unusual parentage. Having said that, this is D&D and thus a highly magical setting where Undead actually exist, so who knows what the resuilt of such a pairing would produce. If we go with your assumption that you would get a 'Half-Undead', then I would probably rule that all the 'template' does is give the Tomb-Tainted Soul Feat...after all, most Undead traits are a result of their continued existance not being reliant on their physical being (e.g. poison doesn't work, because they have no metabolism). There is an argument for some traits that could be passed on, but I doubt there would be very many at all that could not be reproduced by the T-TS chain of feats. If you want a little more than that (and here's where I really start streching my support of this idea), then you might get somehting like this: Half-Undead Template An Inherited template that can be applied to any Humanoid, Monstrous Humanoid or Giant. The result of an unholy union between an Undead creature and a living mortal being, these sorry creatures live out their half-lives hiding from society, as outcaste as their unliving relations. What little flesh clings to their scrawny frames tends to be pale and pallid flesh and their eyes are dark and hollow with a mournful caste. Despite their appearance, they possess an inhuman strength, born of the dark energies that sustain the living dead. Features Type: Unchanged Ability Scores: +2 Str, Con -2, Cha -2 Half-Undead are pale shadows of normal members of their race, but posses unholy strength Gain Darkvision 60ft +2 Racial bonus to Survival Half-Undead are forced to live off what little they can scavenge from wherever they can and swiftly get good at it or die +2 Racial bonus to Saving throws vs. mind-affecting effects Tomb-Tainted Soul: Bonus Feat Level Adjustment: +0 (possibly +1, I'm not sure though) |
| dfarnsworth07-14-07, 10:39 PM | There was an issue of Dragon that had something about undead parentage. Death-touched I think they called it. |
| Drow6407-15-07, 06:16 PM | Sorry, I'm not familiar with either the half-vampire template or the feat Tomb-tainted soul. However, thanks, JellyPooga! I've created a character. He's a wraith cleric. A cleric of Pelor.:looloo: See, he was already married before he was turned into a wraith. However, if he spawned(GAYNESS?!?), then the result would be a half-undead? I dunno. Something like that. But then my half-elf ghosthunter(New class I made) would try and destroy him. Bad elf! He's your ally! :elf: |
| Rerecros07-15-07, 06:26 PM | There are the Nilthucians in my sig. There is also this half-undead dolghast http://www.wizards.com/dnd/images/moe_gallery/91498.jpg from magic of eberron |

| Drow6407-15-07, 06:56 PM | Libris Mortis? |
| JellyPooga07-15-07, 07:00 PM | Libris Mortis? Kind of like a Draconomicon for the Undead |
| Drow6407-15-07, 07:30 PM | Oh. Well, if it's not at the local Barnes&Noble's, I can't get it.:( Oh well... |
| penchant07-16-07, 05:55 PM | I saw the thread and immediatly thought of the half dead from Chronicles of Riddick. People who go to the other side and return but not all the way. They are stuck midway between being dead and alive. So they have bilogical life but their souls are disjointed from this reality. the whole world concept that series created is pretty cool, with elementals and the Necromongers, etc. As far as a bred half undead in the D&D sense, I wouldn't say it really fits. Life is made of positive energy and undead is fueled by negative energy. The two cancel each other out. Its like saying that a creature with the fire subtype gets together with the cold subtype and make babies. A half undead template should come about as an artificial process rather than as the natural occurrence of breeding. Perhaps a good necromancer is trying to come up with a nonevil version of lichdom, or a ghost finds a way to bind itself with a body without a soul and so is sortof alive, but is still a ghost. We really need to stay away from the whole idea of *shiver* lich-loved and such. 'tupping with the dead indeed. |
