| Imragarn_The_Wise04-27-07, 03:29 PM | It is a 5th Level Evil game. It is using the gestalt system and the DM is encouraging races with hitdice.(the hitdice will take one side of the gestalt) I am looking for a race that would be good for a caster. any cool races with hitdice would be welcome though. My caster idea is not set in stone so if there are other cool races i might change it in favor of another. So far i like the Yuan-ti Pureblood for a druid/wiz or the Fey-ri from the races of faerun. I was thinking about a lycanthrope but they are just too complicated. any help would be appreciated. I would like to leave to LA to at most +2 but meh... if its cool its cool. 2 cookies for the person that finds the race for me:P any ideas for a cool build are nice too. |

| Necromas04-27-07, 06:58 PM | HD is still bad for your build because it will kill your casting on one side of the build. I'll second the human vote, you need all the feats you can get with a gestalt build. |
| Imragarn_The_Wise04-27-07, 07:08 PM | Just want to clarify The DM is allowing the PCs to use the other side of the gestalt build for hitdice so i wouldn't lose caster lvls. So... Any other suggestions? |
| Sareld04-27-07, 07:17 PM | I know that the LA will hurt a lot, but have you considered a Nymph? An beatuiful, charming, sadistic and cold hearted nymph could be such a cool character, and if you use the sorceress class to gain your casting, you might even benefit enough from her charisma boost to make a vaiable character after all. Alternatively, you could use a sylph, or if you are feeling in the mood for a really wierd character, try a dryard sorceress with an awakened bonzai tree familiar that doubles as her bonded oak.. Evil fey just rock. |

Um, YES you will if you're a wizard and druid combo. A wizard 5 one side, racial HD 3 and druid 2 on the other side casts as a level two druid only. |
| warforgedMonkey04-27-07, 08:33 PM | IMP!! i would be awsome to se that litle prankster blasting fireballs =P or play half-fiend, Durzagon (MM2) |
| The_Shaman04-27-07, 09:09 PM | Hmm... Aranea? With a few levels in warshaper, you become quite tough to kill, a natural assassin, and have decent ability modifiers for almost everything. |
| Pantorts04-28-07, 05:32 PM | Succubus Sorceror |
| The_Jhereg04-29-07, 02:05 AM | For LA +0, so you can get dual full caster progression, consider a Grey Elf (+2 Intelligence -2 Strength, Elf abilities and ability modifiers). You can get 20 Intelligence at level 1, which helps, and if you're gonna be wildshaped all the time, who cares about base Strength? Probably your best course with this is to use Wizard spells for offense/save-or-dies etc, where the DC's matter, and have a secondary wisdom score and use the druid spells for summons, buffs, and other DC-independent effects. Consider a specialist wizard losing stuff the druid side will have covered. Druid is nice for Gestalt, because "a gestalt character can’t combine two prestige classes at any level" so Druid 20 is nice on the other side of SomeBaseClass/Prc1/Prc2/Prc3 etc. On the other hand, anything with huge mental stat modifiers and full casting based on that stat will likely do well, albeit having fewer spells/options. It depends... Do you know if the DM is likely to make the campaign a closer to a "1 fight then opportunity to rest" or "8 Fights, including 1 ambush while attempting to rest, per adventuring day"? With more encounters, more spells are useful. With fewer but more deadly encounters, higher spell DC's would be good. Really, it depends a lot on campaign style. |
| Kamin_Majere04-29-07, 02:06 PM | If you could find the LA of a spell weaver that would rock for the arcane casting part of your build, but i think the LA would be over 5 more than likely |
| Radijs04-29-07, 02:41 PM | Also voicing for human. Racial HD are per definition worse then class levels. Wizard/duskblade and then later throw in a PRC like spellsword and then alternate wizard/duskblade on the other side so you wind up with a full caster level, BAB 20 and a load of cool abilities. |
| obrysii04-29-07, 02:45 PM | Black Ethergaunts make the best wizards. Black Ethergaunt 20//Cleric 4/Geomancer 10/*Divine Spellcaster* 6 makes for a nasty build: ALL of your spells default to Int (of which your race gives a +20 bonus in) and ALL of your spells are castable in armor. |
| EternalWizard04-29-07, 03:30 PM | There is the Jackal Lord from Fiend Folio, although i'm not sure whether it's what u're looking for. Here's the thing: it has 8 racial HD and LA +4 Both are very high, i know, BUT: the racial HD also provide eight divine spellcasting levels. So u gain HD for a pretty nice race and gain spellcasting ability at the same time, so that u can use the second class for whatever u might want (another spellcaster maybe, or a Paladin of Despair :D ) I've always liked the idea of a gestalt Jackal Lord |
