| ChaosVirus08-15-07, 07:22 AM | I was thinking of an idea for a undead race, named the annoynous, though I am unsure how to stat them, and also looking for any ideas. The idea started as a joke based on 4chan meme, but I was thinking of turning this into a creepy chaotic neutral race. The influences are faction paradox from the doctor who novels, mr smith from matrix, and also the borg. So far the idea, is that the Anonymous, is an undead template that can be applied to any humanoid race. But because of the nature of Anonymous, it wipes out traces relating to the race you once where. The Anonymous, have no faces. Only the hint of somthing which once was. Some even take to wearing the skulls of animals, in a pitiful mockery of showing individuality, despite that they have have very little. They share a hive mind (some even believe that there is only one anonymous, that they are all parts of one whole, some even believe it is literally the same one, dotted throughout time, reliving moments endlessly). Anyone else got any ideas? |
| zeratulcraft08-15-07, 08:01 AM | They are anonymous. They are legion. |
| Shedeo08-15-07, 08:45 AM | Well, I do have an idea, in getting away from the 4chan meme, that you could say the ones wearing the masks are outcasts. Better yet, becoming an exile in anon means receiving a name. In all honesty, its actually a pretty cool concept. Bravo. I'll be certain to post back if I happen to get any ideas. |

It's a very interesting idea, but I would personally make them a bit differently if I were going to introduce anonymous into my campaign. Here is my take on it: Anonymous would be an acquired template, which could be taken by any race/creature with an intelligence score of 6 or better. The template could be acquired at any time, but only after the base creature has been exposed to another Anonymous. This template can only be taken if the base creature is willing to take it. Upon taking this template the base creature (from here on referred to as Anonymous) immediately shifts it's alignment to True Neutral, and is assimilated immediately into the Anonymous Hive Mind (described below). The Anonymous retains all it's HD, class levels, abilities, class abilities, racial abilites, and anything else it had before becoming Anonymous. Physically it still resembles it's former self in every way; however, it loses all it's former subtypes. Anonymous Hive Mind Once the Anonymous is assimilated into the Anonymous Hive Mind it's mind and soul merge with it, creating a telepathic link between it's body and all other Anonymous. This link cannot be broken or interrupted by any means, and it continues to function regards of where the Anonymous's body is on any plane. Through this telepathic link the Anonymous Hive Mind senses everything each of it's Anonymous sense at all time. Once assimilated the Anonymous loses any sense of loyalty it might have felt towards anything (governments, people, organizations, deities, etc.), as well as any morals, ethics, personal codes, or beliefs which dictated it's behaver. However, the Anonymous may continue to act as though none of this has changed (+20 to disguise checks when acting as it's former self). Once assimilated the Anonymous is no longer an individual being, but instead becomes part of the Anonymous Hive Mind. It loses all traces of it's former personality, individuality, and emotions, yet is able to act as though none of this has changed (+20 to disguise checks when acting as it's former self). The Anonymous Hive Mind cares for very little besides satisfying it strange (and often sadistic) sense of humor. It will go to great lengths to keep itself amused, and it will have it's individual Anonymous do anything if it feels it might get a good laugh out of it, even if it means sacrificing them. The Anonymous Hive Mind never feels any pain from losing some of it's members, but instead rejoices if they are lost in a humorous or ironic way. The Anonymous Hive Mind is erratic and completely unpredictable (even to itself), and almost never concerns itself with anything besides itself and it's twisted sense of humor. However, on the rare occasions when it feels it has been wronged, it will stop at nothing to exact it's revenge on those who angered it. During these "raids" the Anonymous participating rarely explain the reason for their attack, but instead continue to repeat the following phrases to it's victim(s): "We are anonymous. We are legion.", "We are many. We are Strong", "Anonymous does not forgive!". Besides it's amusement, the only other thing which seems to interest the Anonymous Hive Mind is cats. The Anonymous seem oddly fascinated by these animals, and they often spend entire days doing nothing besides "cat watching" (But only on the 7th day of each week, for some unknown reason). Occasionally the Anonymous Hive Mind will even intervene to protect felines in need of help (why is uncertain). pics very related http://www.fileupyours.com/files/120319/FIIM4BEEKYIIDPMND6OCDN4FR4WRRUCA.jpg http://www.fileupyours.com/files/120319/Stages%20of%20a%20B%20tard.jpg Also, you can do better than 4ailchan. | LeuktheSavior08-15-07, 09:53 AM | when acting as their former selves i'd make the anonymous always seem lessened or diminshed. They're smiles never meet their eyes, their emotions muted and always with a depressed undertone. Id make it so the further HD you gain while you have the template acquired, you are distorted and lose more of yourself, becoming more of the anonymous. Give it a negative energy aura that expands as they gradually lose themselves to the anonymous, which should be a demiurge of the negative energy plane, and CN/CE. Give them negative energy auras at low HD, and at higher HD negative energy attacks. |

Sort of like the Joker's gas victims, just not as bad, so they still fit into normal society without being too suspicious. |

Reminds me the Rogue Modrons... ___ celestialkin, your template makes me think about the Sand Slave template from D20 Menace (See D20 Modern MSRD (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=d20/article/msrd)), except that instead of being dedicated to the Etoile (some kind of alien/elemental), they are dedicated to the Anonymous Hive Mind and... the Cats(?) However... this doesn't really sound very undead-ish? With this background, it seems to be possible to play one as a PC. Unlike the Borg, which is bent on conquering every other sentient species, the Anonymous Hive Mind seems content to have fun and protect cats; these goal could easily be shared by other PCs. Here are some Special Quality suggestions: Hive Mind (Ex): Linked Minds with all other Anonymous within 300’. None can be flanked or flat-footed unless they all are. Anonymous Knowledge (Ex): When an individual become an Anonymous, he doesn't really loose his past knowledges, they rather become irrelevant to the individual. All these knowledges are bulked into the Anonymous Hive Mind. An individual Anonymous can make a special Anonymous Knowledge check on any subject, with a bonus equal to its Class Level plus its Charisma modifier, with a +1 racial bonus for every three Class Level. (I think Charisma would represent an individual ability to communicate with the Hive Mind.) |
| Shedeo08-15-07, 10:25 AM | Monster Manual V... ANONYMOUS IS THOON. Sorry, that came to mind and I couldn't resist. Anyway, I see them kind of between the two. They always seem somewhat joyful, but they have a darker humor than most. At the same time, however, in normal social situations, there's just something... Off about them. Maybe its just a hit to Cha, or a penalty on cha-based skills when dealing with "nononymous" people. I still like the idea of them being undead. I don't know why, maybe its just because of the phrase "Thread Necromancer." ^^ |
| Shedeo08-15-07, 10:29 AM | Reminds me the Rogue Modrons... Now that you mention it, yes. | ChaosVirus08-15-07, 02:42 PM | Thanks for the comments people =). One thing I am thinking of, is that one does not choose to be anonymous, just as one does not choose to die (there are exceptions of course). They dont expand for the sake of expanding, despite there erratic nature, they seem to follow a set of orders, which is impossible for non-anonymous to understand. Which has made people wonder if there is one anonymous more equal then the others. The transformation is a long agonising process, where the face is lost as there skin stretches over there face, removing any marks which could seperate it from the others. To the point where they do look all the same. Very few ever have broken free from being Anonymous, and even the ones that have gained individuality back, are scarred permently. Most are insane, talking about things which lack any sense. Some wear skulls in attempt to gain back there lost face. I am making these for a demiplane of dread adventure, set in a gothic steampunk city called Grand Central (or Rune by others). Where they will serve a lord known as the trainmaster. They will kind of be somthing like anti dabus/ anti modrons. |

Although we came up with different ideas for our anonymous hive minds, if you hadn't started this thread I would have never been inspired to right up my template. In the past I've seen some DMs who have had signature trademark things which they continue in all their campaigns, and now my hive mind can be mine, since I am about to start DMing. :D As for your "one anonymous more equal then the others" idea it is pretty cool. I was thinking of a very similar idea based on the Anonymous black and white image I posted earlier in this thread (the one with the invisible guy in the tuxedo). In my case Anonymous would remain erratic and random, but if someone were to break/hack into the Anonymous Hive Mind the Anonymous as a whole would cease everything and manifest as a calm, organized, nonrandom being (the guy in the picture) to confront them (think Stargate SG-1 when the replicators across the galaxy just froze and shut down). Sorry for ranting like this. I just need to get things written down when I get creative. However, I really like the idea of your world. Just curious, but will the trainmaster be the "one anonymous greater than the others", or will he be controlling that being, and Anonymous through him? Oh, and did you get the inspiration for your world from any particular source? The whole Grand Central, trainmaster, and dark underground hive type organization gives me a mental image which seems somewhat familiar. I'm leaning towards old 1920-1940 science fiction/horror for some reason. |
| ChaosVirus08-15-07, 06:29 PM | The trainmaster is in a way my anonymous who is more equal then the others. But in the same way he is not. Think lady of pain to the dabus. It's kind of a mystery. Though I do like your idea of a calm collected invisable Anonymous. Which is also an idea I might use myself. About grand central, yeah that seems about right. Its going to be dark steampunk horror, very industrial. Though I have kinda pieced it together from different sources. Its not right yet, but hey its a work in progress. |
| ChaosVirus08-22-07, 09:09 AM | I was wondering if anyone else had any suggestions on these creatures? Hmmm found this great old quote, which suites the anonnymous well. "Remember man, as you walk by, As you are now, so once was I, As I am now, so shall you be, Remember this and follow me." |
| Cam S.08-22-07, 10:02 AM | How about a sort of "Anonymous Meme" ability? 1/day, the Anonymous utters a nonsensical phrase that confuses anyone within earshot. The Anonymous rolls a single charisma check, opposed by the will saves of everyone else (they aren't totaled; check individually). Those who fail by less than 10 are confused for 1d4-1 rounds; those who fail by more than 10 are effected by the spell "Hideous Laughter". |
| Shedeo08-23-07, 01:48 AM | Cam S., I would switch the two effects around. Confusion is better than Hideous laughter. Personally, I'd just make a failed check be Hideous Laughter. Though, rather than be a cha-based effect, I'd make it (10 + 1/2 HD +Charisma modifier) or be effected by Hideous Laughture, caster level equal to HD. |
| reaper508108-23-07, 10:20 AM | Bow down before the Anonymous:bow:  They are everywhere.  They are everything.  You cannot hide from them.  They will find you:bow:  They are the Anonymous:bow: Seriously, very cool idea:D |
| ChaosVirus08-23-07, 12:53 PM | Here is a couple of ideas I have sketched out, but I there are still problems with the wording. The Anonnmous is an aquired template, which can be added to any creature with an Int score of 6 or greater. When someone is turned into an Anonnymous, they go through a agonising transformation over the course of 32 days. At the end of this the newly created Annonymous, becomes a medium humonoid undead creature despite whatever race it was previously. The Anonnymous loses all facial features, and any identifying marks the person once had are erraicated, if the person had lost limbs they are restored, if they had more then 2 arms or 2 legs, the extra limbs are erradicated. Though still can be used as if they still existed. Phamtom Limbs If the charecter had any extra libs prior to the transformation, they still retain them in a phantom form. E.g. if the Annonymous had once been a dragon, it still can fly exactly the same, as if it had wings. Also any anonymous who is within 100 sq feet of the Anonnymous wiyh this ability, they all gain the ability of flight as if they had wings (this is due to the hive mind). |
| reaper508108-23-07, 12:57 PM | under what circumstances does a character become an anonymous? |

I think that this ability is cool in concept, definitely, but would be incredibly powerful. All you'd need is one Anonymous dragon or an Anonymous thri-kreen/girallon/marilith to turn a group of weenie anonymous into one of the best fighting forces out there. I like this, since it makes them meld more together and it allows for more powerful anon to make everyone else more powerful, but at the same time, its way too powerful IMHO. |

| Allthegoodnamesweretaken08-23-07, 09:42 PM | Anonymous always struck me as pretty solidly chaotic neutral. Anonymous is generally clever enough to know when a given action would get it into more trouble then it cares to deal with, so it generally avoids overtly evil actions (although it can fake being evil pretty damn well, that would be trolling). Anonymous isn't good, Anonymous isn't evil. Anonymous is concerned with amusing itself primarily, although it probably has a slightly masochistic streak (willingly exposing themselves to some of the most horrifying pictures on the internet, endless internet arguments that it knows will never resolve, etc.). Anonymous *is* chaotic, 100%, could compete with Slaadi and would probably make better chaos exemplars too. Edit:There are many variations in Anonymous based on the exact board, you can't only look at once section, You have to see them as a whole. Anonymous as a whole is probably every alignment, all at the same time. Of course, the best way to approximate that is to call it chaotic neutral, it certainly appears that way when observed. |
| kadeity08-23-07, 10:07 PM | it should reduce their Charisma to 4, so that it reads 4CHA also... they should be uncapable of feeling, and if they see any anthropomorphic race (furries) they kill them on site. also, they must love cats. oh, and they must encourage make enemies to "an hero" and female enemies to "titz or gtfo". |

There are plenty of Anonymous who are perfectly happy to argue endlessly about video games/consoles, discuss news, etc. Besides, you're exaggerating things. Anonymous doesn't do that sort of thing all the time. And rarely to the degree you described. |

And what do you mean one shouldn't judge a group by its nastiest subsection? Are we saying that the Black Panthers are a happy peaceful hippy group? That the KKK are just cute, helpful southern boy scouts? The Nazis were the nicest people ever, proved by the fact that one was awarded the title of Pope? That Al-Queda group shouldn't be hunted or fought just because a dozen or so committed a few terrorist acts? I'd say that a group really should be judged by their most impactful acts. Afterall, what does the rest of the group do besides merely serve as a support network and apologists for those who committ those acts and thus enable them? A teenage cyber-terrorist organization is still a teenage cyber-terrorist organization even if some members don't actively participate in the group's worst activities. |

Because if you insist on judging every group by a minority portion of them, nearly every identifiable organization, group, etc. is bad. You used massive and incorrect hyperbole with the groups you mentioned, they all believed in whatever creed their organization followed, or they would not be members of that organization. The difference here is that Anonymous has no creed or overarching belief, so you can't categorize it/them easily. They're far too varied. |

The difference here is that Anonymous has no creed or overarching belief, so you can't categorize it/them easily. They're far too varied. And the fact that Anonymous isn't a group, period. I doubt any of them know each other by any other name but Anonymous - and revealing contact information of an Anonymous isn't really allowed. Anyone can do anything under the moniker "Anonymous." Mostly for amusement, but Anonymous doesn't know how to stop before it takes things too far. Personally, I think Anonymous should be classed as Outsiders/Abberations. They're not undead, strictly speaking, as they still live - and being able to command Anonymous is a really killer ability, as you get access to their Hivemind. |
| Shedeo08-25-07, 01:32 PM | I would be inclined to agree with Khatoblepas on the creature type thing, cept that I would say either Aberration, or Undead just for flavor/DnD purposes. I don't really have any suggestions on the ability, to be honest. I like the idea of them retaining their extra limbs as phantom limbs, but granting them to other anonymous is kind of... Weird. However, you could make it like a buff, kind of like Bardic Music that could effect one target, max # = X. Like I said, I'm not terribly keen on it, but it can go either way, IMO. Anyway, on the other discussion, I'm only going to say this. Anonymous isn't Evil. There are certainly some evil members among them, but overall the organization isn't evil. Speaking that you Godwin'd the thread, but comparing Anonymous to any of the aforementioned groups would be a poor comparison. Anonymous as a whole hasn't done anything wrong. They have fun at other people's expense, but that just means they're pranksters. And, in fact, even Anonymous has limits as to how far it will take things. I was running around, looking for something to laugh at on /b/ one day, and I found a "You Laugh, You Lose" thread. About halfway through the thread, someone posted a picture of a room full of dead American soldiers, with their caskets covered in flags. At the bottom, he had inserted "Looks like a n00b parade!" He was promptly flamed into obscurity by the rest of /b/ for his sad humor, and, as I said before, even Anonymous has its limits. They laugh at things because they shouldn't be funny. That's what makes them funny. It isn't that they actually find them funny. |
| Khatoblepas08-25-07, 03:55 PM | Echo Memepool (Su): Once every 1d4 rounds, an Anonymous can create an effect from the Memepool maintained by the hivemind's consciousness. Roll 1d20, and the effect is as follows. Caster Level equals Anonymous's HD, and all saves are (10+1/2HD+Cha mod) Result Effect 0 Karmic Backlash - roll again: the effect rolled only targets the Anonymous. 1 Shoop Da Woop - Illusionary face appears above Anonymous, fires Scorching Ray. 2 Become An Hero! - Incites Death Urge in one target. 3 Eyebleach? - Target is overwhelmed by horrible imagery, affected as Phantasmal Killer. Anonymous are immune to this effect. 4 We are Legion - Summons 1d4 Anonymous, 50% chance of success. 5 Duckroll'd! - Causes next ability used by target to have a 50% instead conjure up a duck on wheels in the target's space, and otherwise fail. (Will) 6 Rickroll'd! - Causes next verbal ability used by target to instead make him affected by Tasha's Hideous Laughter, except the target sings instead. 7 I see what you did thar! - Anonymous becomes immune to any Cha based skills for 1d4 rounds. 8 ... .... 20 Needs Moar... - Roll twice on this table. Both effects happen. And so on. |
