I'm thinking of playing an Illumian. How do you guys feel about the race. I'm trying out a single class Duskblade, but does that really fit with the whole Illumians thing if I don't multiclass?

Duskblade makes sense (to an extent) as it functions in some ways as a Arcanist/Warrior, but without the Multi-Class. You'll also be able to reduce the Duskblade's MAD (by taking one of the "use your Str/Dex for your casting ability" power words), so there is some crunchy benefit as well.

So, yeah...Go for it!

What Cabal were you leaning towards?

Good luck

I may be reading this wrong, but I don't see anywhere that it says Illumians use Str/Dex instead of their normal casting ability, it just says that Str or Dex can be used to determine bonus spells, the end. And that is mostly pointless because bonus spells are decided by the main casting stat (even for the Favored Soul).

If the Duskblade had spells at each level that didn't provoke saves, it would make good sense to dump the casting stat and get bonus spells from Strength. I just don't see enough no-save touch spells to make it worth it.

Edit: Wow, I looked up these spells to double-check, and I found out I was totally wrong. For no-save touch spells you've got Shocking Grasp at 1st, Touch of Idiocy at 2nd, and Vampiric Touch at 3rd. You probably only want 13 levels of duskblade, so you'll only need to choose 1 spell of 4th level, which could be enervation (no save), and Vampiric Touch maxes out at 20th caster level, so you don't NEED to have a 4th level touch spell to channel.

You won't have many blasting options (which you may not even want many of), but you won't have to worry about your channeled spells having low saves if you dump your casting stat. Heck, Illumian looks as good as Human for a duskblade, in this light.
