| tetebetson05-15-07, 06:09 AM | have I come across rules for mixing races, eg sea elf/elf or drow/elf or drow/githzerai the main reason i want some input is about a character that is half sea elf and half elf would they get the normal racial bonus for both or half from each race added together confussed.com:confused: |
| runestar05-15-07, 06:21 AM | Elves typically breed true with other elves. Thus, an elf/drow offspring has equal chance of being either a drow or normal elf. You could perhaps assign various aesthetic features to highlight their unique parentage(such as white hair, dark skin etc). Same for elf/sea elf. Not sure about elf/gith pairings though. |

| AMGriffin05-15-07, 08:57 PM | Just out of curiousity, what official half-races are there (not including templates)? The only ones that come to mind are Half-elves, Half-Orcs, Ogrillion (Ogre/Orcs), Half-Ogres, and in some campaigns "Muls" or dwarven/human crossbreeds. Any others you can think of? The simplest method for mixing races is to basically "average out" the abilities of the two races. That can make half-races rather boring however, it's usually good when you give them something all their own too. |
| jakelslang2105-15-07, 09:27 PM | Well a while ago i made a drow/shadowswyft cross. It was like he had his dex bonuses from elf and shadoswyft but also got a large penalty to con. Also he had 40 base speed but was dazed when he entered strongly lit areas. I forgot some of his other bonuses but all his bonuses always had a drawback. |
| Ace_of_time05-15-07, 09:37 PM | Its half the mods rounded down and then added together. SA is up to you I'd would do ether or type thing on thing like darkvision and lowlight. |

Anyway, don't forget half-giants too. |
| Daeva05-15-07, 11:50 PM | i know in second edition 99% of the races couldnt interbreed, and most that could came out as steril offspring (at least in dark sun, not so much other places). and as soon as an breed was was less than half it no longer benefited. thats the way i like it >< |
| Kinokono05-16-07, 12:19 AM | I beleive in the "book of erotic fantasy" it covers mixing races... |
| Ace_of_time05-16-07, 01:09 AM | I had a half kobold/half elf one time if that helps at all. |
| Nat_2005-16-07, 01:21 AM | I dont care about the elves breed true I like my half drow/ half high elf idea I like the small benifits from both sides idea... |
| The Ubbergeek05-16-07, 01:32 AM | My idea; I go as traditionaly, no crazy mixes, but I may allow classic halves, like half-ogres or muls (adapted). And in the case of something like a 3/4 human/elf, or half-drow, half-high elf, I go with the most % or more strong blood, BUT I allow hints of heiritage. Fluff details, body hints. I was inspired by tanis's child in DL, A Dragon article who spoke of a guy who had 1/3 or 1/4 of ogre blood - the blood show. Maybe the guy with one fourth of elf blood have slightly pointed ears, the almondey eyes, a bishiness. Or guy who had some ogrish blood is unusualy tall, near the limits, and/or with some neandertalish features. All in all, I would allow cosmetic details, fluff things that would gave no advantages outside of perhaps rping events - like the pity, hate or liking ffrom npc, all that. that is when the races breed, of course. |
| MCage05-16-07, 04:10 PM | You could do it LotR style where they pick their main race, like Elrond Half Elven, he had a twin brother (Elros?) who chose to be human, and Elrond chose to be elf. Useing that you could make all sorts of half races for flavor but mechanically have them chose one or the other base race for stat adjust. Or spice it up with the options to pick and choose, like with a human/kobold drop the darkvision for bonus skill points, or something alittle more equivilent, ill bet savage species would have something along these lines to help. |
