I'm looking for a race that makes a good wizard. Obviously, Int bonuses are required; avoiding Con penalties is nice.

Level-adjusted races are okay, up to +3.

I already like sharakim for this particular character, but I'm curious about whether there's a better way.

Edit: he's a buffer/debuffer, if that makes a difference. Scores would go something like Int > Con > Dex > Wis > Cha > Str.

Well, grey elves have -2 Str, +2 Dex, -2 Con, and +2 Int. If you want to get rid of the Con penalty, add the Dragonborn template (-2 Dex, +2 Con) for a net -2 Str, +2 Int.

If you don't mind the +1 LA, tieflings give you +2 Dex, +2 Int, -2 Cha, and a bunch of resistances. I'd avoid any LA greater than 0, because your caster levels will usually be much better than any racial benifits you get.

Deep imaskari from underdark. +2int, -2dex, qualifies for otherworldly region feat(makes you native outsider), and a racial pearl of power1 1/day.:)

And LA+0 just makes it so much sweeter...:D

The lesser Tiefling from the books is more or less a Dwarf on the power scale. Then again, I've noticed I don't give much of a damn about racial equality and all the bull guidelines Wizards thought up for making your own when Dwarves, Wood Elves, and Whisper Gnomes are out to play.

Also, don't sacrifice a caster level for +2 Int.
