Not as skilled as smithing and crafting, the Moddat however are the superior miners, going deeper than even their Dwarven counterparts. Personality Although often slow to warm up to new acquaintances, the Moddat are a friendly and warm race. They often sing while mining, and social gatherings are frequent, usually a feast. Once their trust and friendship is earned they are very pleasant to be around. Physical Description Typically Moddat males run between 5-5.5 ft tall, females are 4.8-5.4 ft tall, both have elongated torsos, and shorter legs. The males may weigh between 325-450 lbs., while the females weigh between 280-350 lbs. Their skin varies from brown to dark ebony hues. They possess a second set of arms stemming from the rear top portion of their shoulder blade. These secondary arms make them formable grapplers, often times they settle differences with wrestling matches. Although they may grow hair, or beards of shades of grey to black, many do not. Moddat are considered adults at about age 30, and they can live to be more than 250 years old. Relations Moddat get along well with humans, gnomes, and dwarves (although there is often a friendly sense of competition). They often become fast friends with gnomes over the others because the Moddat feel that the gnome’s great sense of humour brings all races closer. Moddat are sworn enemies of dark elves, who they were at one time waging war with. Moddat almost always have suspicious of dark elves at all times, they won’t even sleep near or in the same room as one unless with a trusted friend to watch over him. Even then the Moddat won’t sleep peaceful. Alignment Generally of good alignment, having very competitive life styles often leads the Modat to a chaotic alignment. The capacity for the full spectrum of alignment does exist within Moddat society. Moddat Lands The Moddat are most commonly found in the caverns that run below Chimera Mountains. Living in small villages, they tend to grow and harvest underground plant life for their sustenance. There are no central cities or towns for the Moddat, and they often move their encampments when the ground becomes unfertile. Religion Most often the Moddat tribes are followers of Alvo, although thanks and praise is often given by Shamans. They believe that Alvo created them to harvest the ore of Tallorn to share; because of this, Moddat often call one another “Workers”. There are no temples in the Moddat lands, as they see the life of Alvo in the stone around them everyday. Moddat Racial Traits • +2 Strength, +2 Constitution, –2 Dexterity: Moddat are tough and strong, but not nimble. • Medium: As Medium creatures, moddat have no special bonuses or penalties due to their size. • Moddat base land speed is 20 feet. However, Moddat can move at this speed even when wearing medium or heavy armor or whose speed is reduced in such conditions). • Darkvision: Moddats can see in the dark up to 60 feet. Darkvision is black and white only, but it is otherwise like normal sight, and dwarves can function just fine with no light at all. • Powerful Build: The physical stature and additional arms of moddat lets them function in many ways as if they were one size category larger. Whenever a moddat is subject to a size modifier or special size modifier for an opposed check (such as during grapple checks, bull rush attempts, and trip attempts), the moddat is treated as one size larger if doing so is advantageous to him. A moddat is also considered to be one size larger when determining whether a creature’s special attacks based on size (such as improved grab or swallow whole) can affect him. A moddat can use weapons designed for a creature one size larger without penalty as long as wielded in all four hands. Example: A moddat could wield one large greatsword but only duel wield two greatswords. However, his space and reach remain those of a creature of his actual size. The benefits of this racial trait stack with the effects of powers, abilities, and spells that change the subject’s size category. • Automatic Languages: Common and Dwarven. Bonus Languages: Giant, Gnome, Goblin, Orc, Terran, and Undercommon. Moddats are familiar with the languages of their enemies and of their subterranean allies. • Favored Class: Barbarian. A multiclass moddat’s barbarian class does not count when determining whether he takes an experience point penalty. • Level Adjustment: +2 This is a little race me and a buddy came up with and have been working on for the past few months. I just wanted to get it out there and see what everyone thinks. Drade Oh and sorry about no color on the pic yet. I updated a change or two in Powerful Build, and wanted to know if anyone thinks this races good with just a +2 LA and if you think it can be lowered or needs to be changed. I would also like to know why. Thanks Again. |
| drade06-22-07, 09:06 PM | I haven't gotten any feed back on this make for a race. I was wanting to know if it's bad or good or something you all would want to play and if it is balanced. Help me out here guys heheh. |
| flaiquiri06-22-07, 09:25 PM | I think it's very cool, but it could definitely use some backstory and I seriously doubt that it merits that much level adjustment. The Half-Giant, after all, is the same except that it's faster and gets slower in armor and has low-light vision instead of darkvision. But it also gets 2 free power points and stomp 1/day, as well as a +2 bonus on saves against fire spells and effects. It has a +1 LA. The Half-Giant does differ in a couple other ways; fewer bonus languages, different favored class and Giant type instead of whatever this race is (I assume humanoid). |
| drade06-22-07, 09:30 PM | Well they are a sub race of Dwarfs but with four arms and bigger but not taller if you understand that. What I think I can do is add the rest of their information to the orginal post. Maybe that will help some to. |
| Rerecros06-22-07, 09:30 PM | That's crazy that they can weild a large two handed with all four hands, that would be like (3d6 + (2.5 x str mod)) = dmg. with an 18 (+2) in str thats between 15 and 30 dmg a round, and thats not counting criticals. I have not sure whether this is balanced at LA+2, though i doubt it. This race is devoid of fluff. |
| drade06-22-07, 09:32 PM | No they can't weild a large two handed sword two hands they can only weild meduim greatswords and only 2 at a time one for two hands. Other thing they can weild a large two handed weapon if weilded in all four hands I think I made that clear in the powerful build description I will have to check. Edit: I did state it in the Powerful build description, I take it you know what most Powerful build state however you may have not read it Rerecros. |
| Rerecros06-22-07, 09:36 PM | I never said they could wield a large two handed sword in two hands, you obviously didn't read my post correctly. A large weapon in 4 hands would get full str dmg from the main hand, and three halves str dmg from the secondary hands. |
| drade06-22-07, 09:40 PM | The race description talks about things from the world created by me including the God Alvo a dwarf god. I thought I would add that in there so to not confuse anyone. |

A large weapon in 4 hands would get full str dmg from the main hand, and three halves str dmg from the secondary hands. Please read the Powerful build Description in the race it's self I think your missing what is added there. It states how they can weild large weapons I think I said meduim by accendent and will change it. |
| flaiquiri06-22-07, 09:45 PM | Okay; I misunderstood you. I thought that you meant that the four arms were just folded into powerful build, as you gave no description of the mechanical benefits. |
| Rerecros06-22-07, 09:52 PM | Fluff wise, i like them, they make a good opposing force/slave race for the drow. Cruch wise, a "huge" greatsword with all four hands, it's more broken than I thought. |
| drade06-22-07, 10:46 PM | Your right that is a simple error I placed on here and it is my fault. That is the reason I placed them on here to help with such things. They don't weild weapons 2 sizes lager then them, just one like normal Powerful build I just worded wrong let me change that and maybe it will help. However the weapon of a size larger can only be used if in all 4 hands. So a Large Greatsword would have to be in all 4 hands and the damage would be the same as Half-Gaints 3d6+ str and half. Maybe that will clear up my intensions a little. :) Edit: On and I was thinking something else that a weapons is small Meduim and large and so on, but not compared to the size of the creature. |

So a Large Greatsword would have to be in all 4 hands and the damage would be the same as Half-Gaints 3d6+ str and half. Kay, that works, I'd say their balanced :) They need a little spicing up in their crunch, a few minor abilities. Maybe something related to finding/crafting metal, fighting in caves n'such. |
| drade06-22-07, 11:20 PM | I was going to give them a craft bonus like dwarf because they are going to be a subrace of them but not sure if that would be pushing their LA. |
