| wolfwing03-24-08, 12:26 AM | Or to at least turn them into actual class levels? I notice that some races have the option, but is there a simple way of doing it? I'm hoping to play the Elati from Mystic races, but the LA +3 can hurt a bit when I'm level 5 and rest of the party is 8-10. |
| Jaxgaret03-24-08, 12:29 AM | Reducing Level Adjustments (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/races/reducingLevelAdjustments.htm). |
| wolfwing03-24-08, 12:58 AM | Stupid question...heh how does LA work then? It's a bit contrary to how we've been doing it. For us it's been, my char would start at level 8, so instead of starting at 8 he's at level 5 in the race, but seems to be something else I'm missing...wich is confusing. |
| Wharin03-24-08, 01:14 AM | I think you are on the right track, actually. Assuming you had the option of playing an 8th level character, if you chose the Eleti as your character's race, you'd get 5 class levels. The idea is that a 5th level Eleti is as powerful as an 8th level human (or dwarf, or elf, or what have you). Personally, i think that book's LA system is a little (very) wonky, and you might be able to talk your DM to lower the LA a bit, simply out of the kindness of his heart (if you can find the Necropolitan template from one of the Eberron books, that would be a great comparison). |
| wolfwing03-24-08, 01:25 AM | I was thinking the same myself, main reason I liked the Elati was they can be good aligned and cleric/paladins and such so sort of fit the char Idea I had. |
| Maeglin_Dubh03-24-08, 01:35 AM | Has anyone ever compiled a more accurate LA assessment of the Mythic Races sourcebook? |
| wolfwing03-24-08, 01:38 AM | I think one of their reasons for the high LA is their imunities to cold and half damage from piercing/slashing wich someone said would be DR:5 or 10 against slashing/piercing and imune to cold or just damage reduction, under 3.5 or something like that. |
| Jaxgaret03-24-08, 03:50 PM | Stupid question...heh how does LA work then? On LA, ECL, and CR (http://forums.gleemax.com/showpost.php?p=12120162#post12120162). Also, here is YabaTheWhat's system for calculating a race or template's LA: Feature Points (http://yabathewhat.tripod.com/FP.pdf). It's slightly flawed, but it's basically the best full system we've got. |
| Ace_of_time03-24-08, 04:38 PM | I have a disease in my world that creatures get before they are born. It feeds on magic from the baby. Permanently drain all magicial properties of the creatures. Basically any thing that wouldn't work in a anti magic field are lost permanently. That most of the time makes the LA 0. |
| Legdiwena03-24-08, 05:01 PM | The problem is, most of the time, the features that grant a LA still work in an antimagic field |
| Ace_of_time03-24-08, 10:38 PM | BREATH WEAPON, CHARM AND COMPULSION, DAMAGE REDUCTION (only SU types), ENERGY DRAIN AND NEGATIVE LEVELS, GASEOUS FORM, GAZE ATTACKS, PARALYSIS (only SU ones, POLYMORPH, Alternate Form (Su), Ability Score Loss (Su), Change Shape (Su), Fear (Su or Sp), Flight (only SU ones), Ray (Su or Sp), Sonic Attacks (Su), Summon (Sp), Telepathy (Su,Except if it is psi like AKA on a non psionic race), and any spell like and supernatural abilities I missed. It also takes away immunities and resistances if the were gained through magic. (are spell like or supernatural) It is called Leechinskrime. I couldn't find where it tells what things give a LA. But for the most part the disease reduces it to LA 0. Not always, but for the most part. It is homebrew though so you would have to get the DM permission. It is just a story way of letting you play monster races without all the abilities that go with them. Also I let my players gain large increases to ablility scores every four levels. They don't get more then a +2 on abilities at the start. Say you have a +6 to str, dex, cha. They would start out with +2 on all and gain another +2 at 4th level and the final +2 at 8th. You could reduce it even more by just give it to one for each 4 levels but there is only 5 increases before 20th level and the other way works well with out being overpowering. |
| Jaxgaret03-25-08, 06:03 PM | Sounds like 4e Spellplague's little brother to me. |
| Ace_of_time03-25-08, 06:20 PM | I made it for an old dragon campaign of my. Long while ago. before they said anything about 4e. Maybe it is? It is there website. I found it. Ok a little info for our world. Campaign Info There is a magical disease in the world that affect dragons before they hatch. What this does is drain the dragon of all it's magical Qualities. These dragons are called rogue dragon. When playing them they have no breath weapon, Spell/spell like abilities, and any thing that runs off magical. It still keep any immunities it has plus things like water breathing. 1/3rd of the egg that are layed start getting a crescent moon pattern on the egg half way threw incubation. These are called royal dragon and are immune to the disease and follow reg dragon leveling. Rogue dragons can substitute class levels for their HD. They still gain good saves and skills but gain the rest of the benefits of the class and also gain age cats by class levels. Planer dragons are immune to the magical disease and all the eggs have the pattern. Gem dragon never have the pattern and but seem to be immune too. Nothing so far has helped with this magical disease, even wish spell. Healers think this is because the magical disease absorbs magic. |

| Ace_of_time03-26-08, 09:44 PM | I haven't done a full write up on it. There is no fort save since it happen before birth. DM could give the mother a fort save DC30. After the creature runs out of magical essence The disease loses strength and the immune system kills it off. So after you are born you can still use magic as normal. If you want to know more it is in the thread. Just click the > beside the QUOTE and it will take you there.. Haven't posted on that thread in a while. Basically just a story way to get rid of LA from magicial abilities. |
