| Ishmayl04-21-07, 10:26 AM | Anyone have any stats for Klingons they would like to share? |
| Wharin04-21-07, 10:36 AM | Hmm.. If I had to guess, I'd think it goes something like this: +2 STR, -2 WIS NA+1 +2 Intimidate Weapon Familiarity: Bat'leth Favored Class: Fighter (Or if there was a Lawful version of the Barbarian, that) Languages: Klingon, English And that would pretty much be the long and short of it in my book. I could see a few other things going on... like a -2 CHA and maybe, like, a craft bonus or something, but not being the biggest Trekkie, i wouldn't be the one to do that. |
| JolanthusTrel04-21-07, 10:43 AM | I'd say racial bonuses of +2 to strength and constitution -2 to intelligence (only cause I think they are a bunch of thugs except for Mr. Worf) and charisma. (or in the very least penalties to diplomacy and gather information but bonuses to intimidation) Favoured class: Barbarian I See Klingons as a Dwarf\Half orc mix Burly warriors but not big on the thinking. |
| AMGriffin04-21-07, 12:11 PM | I'd think the Klingon would basically be a man-sized dwarf, I don't think they're worthy of an intelligence penalty, any race that can master space travel isn't going to have an intelligence penalty. Nor have I seen them do anything that would make them so notably stronger then humans to warrant a +2 to strength. I'm not like a HUGE Star Trek fan, keep this in mind... this is just from watching the series from time to time (and movies) when I'm bored. So I'd say +2 Con/-2 Cha or Wisdom for ability modifiers. |
| Darth Syntax04-21-07, 12:50 PM | I would have to say that Klingons would warrent a level adjustment if they were statted out. +2 STR, +2 CON -2 CHA Medium sized +4 racial bonus to intimidate Klingons always treat knowledge(nobility and royalty) as a class skill Weapon Familiarity: any 1 Klingon exotic weapon LA: +1 |
| AMGriffin04-21-07, 01:22 PM | ^That's a pretty frail LA+1. |
| Return of the Flumph04-21-07, 01:35 PM | ^That's a pretty frail LA+1. Add a natural armor bonus for their tough hide and latticed rib cage. Then you'll have it. |
| Jenrock04-21-07, 02:09 PM | I'm terrible at balancing races, but I do have the Star Trek roleplaying game, so I can translate their stats from that game to d20. +2 Strength, +2 Constitution, -2 Intelligence, -2 Wisdom Weapon Proficiency with their traditional weapons (bat'leth, d'k tahg, and mek'leth) Brak'lul (duplicates of many vital organs): +2 on all Constitution checks Ferocity: When thier honor is called into question, when they witness a Klingon engaging in dishonorable behavior, or anyone pushes them beyond their breaking point they gain +2 to all melee combat checks, and +3 HP. This lasts a number of rounds equal to their Constitution modifier. If there are still foes left standing, they may only end it prematurely with a DC 15 Will save. Honor: a Klingon may add may add 1/2 his level (round down) on all Charisma-based checks with other Klingons. Like I said, these are just translated from the book, so use as much or as little of them as you want. |
| CipherTheory04-21-07, 03:12 PM | I dislike threads like this. A lot. Many people seem to think that klingons are stupid when, in reality, they're on par with humans and vulcans in terms of technology (ahead is some respects). You don't think vulcans are stupid, do you?* Additionally, klingons don't seem to be any less wise or charismatic than humans. An average klingon can tell at a glance when someone wants to kill them. Sounds pretty perceptive to me. Since charisma measures force of personality in D&D I can't see klingons, one of the most personally forceful races in the Star Trek universe, having a penalty to it. Here's my humble suggestions: +2 STR, +2 CON - Klingons are a warrior race, bread strong and tough. Weapon Familiarity: Klingons treat the bat'leth, d'k tahg, and mek'leth as martial weapons rather than exotic weapons. +2 Racial bonus to intimidate Toughness: Klingons are born tough and can take punishment. All klingons gain Toughness as a bonus feat at 1st level. Warriors Honor: A klingon cannot be prevented from taking levels in a class due to being lawful alignment, nor will she lose class abilities for becoming lawful. Having other alignments may still influence class selection, however. Exception: A deity that rejects lawful clerics may still prevent a lawful klingon from becoming his or her cleric. Languages: Klingon, Common** Favored Class: Barbarian Level Adjustment: +1 If you don't think this is worth LA+1, throw in Endurance as an extra racial feat. Alternately, you could give them a -2 to Will saves (playing on the mental weakness everyone who posted above seems to percieve) and play it as an LA+0 race. Disclaimer:I'm not a great one for game balance. Someone who's better at that will need to iron stuff out. All I can tell you is what I would/wouldn't play with what Level Adjustment. *Well, unless you watch Enterprise and realize that Vulcans have had warp drive since earth's 1900's, yet only got to warp 3 once humans tackled the problem a few earth centuries later. ;)*** **Assumes that this is for D&D. If not, substitute "English" as an automatic language. ***Don't flame me about this one if I'm a little off. I'm not a fan of Enterprise. |
| penchant04-21-07, 06:49 PM | Klingons are NOT as technologically advanced as humans or vulcans. The orginal Federation / Klingon war arose when the Feds helped the klingons develop warp technology that they were not able to themselves produce. It was this war that prompted the federation to form the Prime Directive. Klingons did not develop cloaking technology themselves either but recieved it from the romulans who sell their out dated tech to the Klingons secure in the knowledge that they can still see the BoP. Considering the Klingon redundant organs, I would include in a +1 LA build the ability to automatically stabilize at -1 and below. |
| CipherTheory04-21-07, 08:21 PM | No. There's never been a cannonal explaination in any of the films or TV shows for why the Klingons have warp technology. "B-cannon" states that Klingons stole warp technology from the Hur'q when they expelled that race from Kronos (Qo'noS), the klingon home world. A quick check through sited online sources reveals that in the 'Enterprise' (considered a canonal source despite many fan's ascertations that it breaks established cannon) episode "Broken Bow" the Klingons were shown to already posess warp technology when they first encountered the Federation. Regardless, the fact that it was not previously developed is entirely one of culture rather than intelect. The klingons were obviously able to reverse-engineer and reproduce warp technology (and related technologies), once they became available. They simply hadn't thought of exploring space since they were previously too busy fighting amongst themselves. If you have a source (cannon or b-cannon) that contradicts anything I've posted here, I'd be happy to read it if you site it. Thanks. On topic: I do agree with you about the auto-stabilization thing. Consider it added to my personal Klingon LA+1 build. :) |
| Return of the Flumph04-21-07, 10:37 PM | They simply hadn't thought of exploring space since they were previously too busy fighting amongst themselves. Wisdom penalty. |
| penchant04-22-07, 02:39 PM | What I considered were the licensed books. I think I read it before Next Generation came out, but its been too long for me to remember where from so I'll give it to you (and I certainly don't want to reread THAT many books.) Besides, "canon" has been changed so many times to fit the ideas of different writers and directors that any point is arguable. Did the eugenics wars happen back in the 90's or not? :) |
| Ishmayl04-26-07, 09:48 PM | I like a couple of the ideas here, and I agree that Klingons aren't the idiots that people think they are, but I think I want one that has no LA. Cipher, what would be the best way to adjust yours to make it LA 0, but keep the general flavor you've put out? |
| stargate52504-26-07, 11:04 PM | Nor have I seen them do anything that would make them so notably stronger then humans to warrant a +2 to strength. yeah, being able to kick the crud out of a borg drone in hand-to-hand combat doesn't even warrant the thought of a +2... Is anyone remembering the extra endurance they should get from having a third lung? |
| Novacat04-26-07, 11:44 PM | Speaking as a trekkie... Medium Humanoid (klingon) • +2 STR, +4 CON, +2 WIS • +4 to intimidate • +2 to Knowledge (Nobility and Royalty) • Automatic Proficiency with the Bat'leth and the Mek'leth (effectively a Double Sword and a Dagger) • Favored Class: Fighter • Level Adjustment: +1 The high bonus on Constitution represents the klingon's well-known redundant organs. I opted for a +2 to WIS, because of a klingon's heightened senses and strength of will. Seriously, though, klingons aren't THAT different from humans. The biggest differences are in the cultures, thus the bonuses to intimidate and Knowledge (nobility and royalty). |
| CryoSilver04-27-07, 12:24 AM | Wisdom penalty. Humans do that, too. |
| penchant04-27-07, 02:07 AM | But how much of what Klingons are seen doing is genetic and how much is just cultural? While Klingons do go HTH with borg, that's because half thier lives is spent in HTH training. Federation focuses on phaser training and Judo. Oh, and batting each other with giant Qtips while blindfolded. I would make Klingons thus: +2 Con -2 Cha +2 to intimidate Knowledge (nobility and royalty) is a class skill Racial Weapon Proficiency: Double Sword, Long Sword, Short Sword, Dagger Klingons have the racial ability to automatically stabilize and stop dying at -1 to -9 hit points. If a Klingon reaches -10 hit points or lower he dies as normal. He often fills his time in negative hit points singing Klingon Opera and trying to get some enemy to come and finish him off properly. Favored Class: Fighter (Or Samurai if available). LA +0 |
| Hideous Phidias04-27-07, 06:20 AM | Klingon is the Hobgoblin of Star Trek. That said the Ferengi would be goblins the easy to kill race of the first few levels. One should remember when they brought back Star Trek in the late 80s they intended for the Ferengi to replace the Klingons as the main tough guy race of space. but the people only saw clowns. I mean short, big ears and bad teeth how scary is that, please. It also screams goblin, as does the life long search for PROFIT. |
| stargate52504-27-07, 07:45 AM | as does the life long search for wealth. not wealth, PROFIT. :) |
| Tectorman04-27-07, 10:23 AM | All right, my turn. Klingon Racial Traits * +2 Constitution, -2 Charisma: Klingons are very resilient, but their phrase for "Hello" actually translates as "What do you want?" * Medium: As Medium creatures, Klingons have no special bonuses or penalties due to their size. * Klingon base land speed is 30 feet. However, they are similar to dwarves in that they can move at this speed even while wearing medium or heavy armor or when carrying a medium or heavy load. * Weapon Proficiency: Klingons receive the Exotic Weapon Proficiency feats for the bat'leth and the triple dagger as bonus feats. A Klingon is not even considered a man until he can hold a blade. (My own stats for the bat'leth can be found on the link on my sig. The triple dagger can be found in the Arms and Equipment Guide. Personally, I recommend some kind of changes {don't know what} to put it more into 3.5 terms.) * Weapon Familiarity: Klingons may treat mek'leths and Kahless bat'leths as martial weapons rather than exotic weapons (also found in my sig). * Stability: Klingons are exceptionally stable on their feet. A Klingon gains a +4 bonus on ability checks made to resist being bull rushed or tripped when standing on the ground (but only when standing firmly on the ground). * +2 racial bonus on saving throws against poison: Klingons have a tea ceremony that involves a poison that is usually deadly to humans. * Due to their brak'lul, Klingons have a higher tolerance to critical hits. All critical hits and similar forms of precision based damage have a 10% chance of being reduced to normal damage (or nonexistent damage, as the case may be). (An instance of confirming a crit and delivering SA damage would require two separate rolls, the results of which would not have any bearing on the other, including certain feats such as Telling Blow {PHB II}.) * +2 racial bonus on Intimidate checks: Klingons consider insulting people to be an artform (and the brow ridges aren't just there to make them pretty, right?). * Automatic Languages: Common and Klingon. Bonus Languages: Any (except secret languages, such as Druidic). Klingons are unique in that they can reserve open spaces for their bonus languages, either from a high Intelligence score or by taking ranks in Speak Language, due to possessing a Universal Translater. They can, as two consecutive full round actions that do provoke an attack of opportunity, program in a language that they've been recently exposed to (this even includes secret languages, such as Druidic). A failed attempt, from some interruption such as an attack of opportunity, means they must try again from the beginning. A successful attempt allows them to speak, understand, read, and write the language. * Favored Class: I hate to do this to them, but Fighter. * Level Adjustment: +1. |
