| Khadmus04-05-07, 01:22 PM | Does a Kobold with 1 level in an NPC class always have a 1/4 CR? Do the Unearthed Arcana variant kobolds still have a NPC challenge rating of class levels -3? |
| Maraxus04-05-07, 02:18 PM | Both, Kobolds and "NPC classes" have quite a difficult power-level estimation. A kobold Commoner is obviously weaker then a Kobold Warrior. And while an Adept is usually roughly a bit worse then a Warrior, a Kobold Adept is about as good as anothe race's Adept and therefor better then a Kobold Warrior. |
| Kadasbrass04-05-07, 03:13 PM | kobold with a class level would be cr 1/3. Generally kobolds with npc classes has cr equal to their level -3 while a pc class level would be levels -2 |
| runestar04-05-07, 09:37 PM | Yeah, a kobold warrior4 or adept4 is cr1, probably the best use of this variant rule...:P |
| Kadasbrass04-06-07, 03:18 AM | Yeah, abusing rules just isn't for players. I warn by threatening their bread and butter... If they go munchkin on me they will have to fight creatures way more powerful then their xp is worth. This sometimes means kobolds with npc class levels of 4 and only worth 300 xp sometimes. My personal favorite is cr 12 or 14 creatures that require wish to kill... |
| runestar04-06-07, 07:43 AM | I dunno - is a kobold warrior4 that scary? It uses the npc stat array(13, 12, 11, 10, 9, 8). After factoring in its stat modifiers(-4str, +2dex, -2con), that does not amount to much, if at all. With decent armour and a shield, it will have a respectable AC and hp(AC22, 22hp), but that is pretty much it. Fighters may have a bit of trouble trying to hit that sort of AC, but it is only a matter of time. Kobold adept4 might be a bit more tricky as it gets to access a 2nd lv spell. This lets it cast scorching ray, which can potentially put the party mage or cleric out of the game. Web is not a bad choice either if it is supported with archers. It can also cast burning hands at caster lv4, dealing 4d4 in a 15-ft cone, possibly devastating with clever positioning. Hmm...should we start relooking at kobolds as the punching bags of dnd?:P |
| Khadmus04-06-07, 01:24 PM | I was thinking 3 Kobold Adepts and 1 Kobold Warrior myself.. the Adepts all cast sleep, and the warrior kills them. The Adept 4 was also considered. I believe that 7 level one Adepts and the same 1st-level warrior (7/4+1/4=2, right?) would be more devastating. |
| Jaxgaret04-06-07, 01:59 PM | Heh. Kobold Adept4s as CR1 creatures. What will they think of next. |
