Korphyd Racial Traits:
Ability Modifers: Str +4, Dex +2, Con +2, Int +2, Wis +2, Cha +4. Korphyd are physically powerful and tough, and they have strong wills and personalities.
Size: Medium
Type: Humanoid (korphyd)
Speed: 30 feet.
Vision: Normal vision.
Weapon Familiarity: All Korphyd treat the scythe as a simple weapon rather than a martial weapon. This is due to the fact that most Korphyd are farmer’s, and thus really familiar with it.
Skills: Korphyd have a +2 bonus on Appraise checks related to wheat and other farmland products. They take a -2 penalty on Diplomacy checks due to them being slightly less civilized in their manners.
Mallable Body Shape: The rough shape of the body of a Korphyd is subject to its will, due in part thanks to a very distant semi-lycanthropic heritage. If they wish to alter their rough body shape, it requires a full round action and lasts for as long as they choose to remain that way:
Slight Build: The collapsed body of Korphyd lets them function in many ways as if they were one size category smaller. Whenever a Korphyd is subject to a size modifier or special size modifier for an opposed check (such as Hide), the Korphyd is treated as one size smaller if doing so is advantageous to the character. A Korphyd is also considered to be one size smaller when "squeezing" through a restrictive space. A Korphyd can use weapons designed for a creature one size smaller without penalty. However, the space and reach of a Korphyd remain those of a creature of their actual size.
Powerful Build: The enhanced stature of a Korphyd lets them function in many ways as if they were one size category larger. Whenever a Korphyd is subject to a size modifier or special size modifier for an opposed check (such as during grapple checks, bull rush attempts, and trip attempts), the Korphyd is treated as one size larger if doing so is advantageous to him. A Korphyd is also considered to be one size larger when determining whether a creature’s special attacks based on size (such as improved grab or swallow whole) can affect him. A Korphyd can use weapons designed for a creature one size larger without penalty. However, his space and reach remain those of a creature of his actual size.

This is an interesting race. The LA: +3 seems fine due to their powers and number of possitive Racial Ability Score modifiers. The main problem is see is the descriptive text that you left out.

I don't understand why the "scythe" is a simple weapon for them. That should be explained better or at least given a rationale. For example, elves are natural archers, dwarves have a low center of gravity and a affinity for heavy axe weapons, the hooked hammer is a hereditary weapon of gnomes, etc. Does the scyth have a historical or religious significance to the race? A fictional example; the "bat'leth" is part of many Klingon cermonies and duels of honor. Explaining the importance of the scythe to the Korphyd is a way to give flavor to the race.

Also if their bodies are composed of "extraplanar chaos" matter then shouldn't they be Outsiders or at least have the SUBTYPE of Chaos (vulnerable to spells that affect chaotic creatures). Telling what color their skin, eyes, teeth, and hair will also help others visualize the race. Why is a creature composed of "extraplanar chaos" so interested in farming anyway? Feast and Famine cycles are common in nature (and moon phases) so their ability to change from "fat" to "thin" may be an aspect of a "Fey" heritige (or lycanthropy like shifters) instead of a extradimensional one. Farmers are commonly associated with plants so a race of instictive farmers been birthed by plants (aka "Tree of Life" of Norse Mythology or "Corn People" of Native American Traditions)

Automatic Languages: All creatures other than humans (or human built constructs) have a bonus racial language. Do your creatures have their own language or are the a human "sub-race".

ONE of the benefits of being a small creature is a +1 AB and +1 AC bonus. Is this part of the "slight build" ability? This should be empathatically stated either way to provide clarity. Obviously the -1 AB and -1 AC penalty given to large creatures is a penalty and is not inflicted by Powerful Build since it specifically states that it only provides the benefits of being a large creature.

Favorite Class: Barbarians stereotypically pursue a nomadic lifestyle which ill suits are race of instinctive farmers, though there are exceptions. Vikings were fishermen not farmers but did extablish permanent settlements for women, children, and the elderly while the men travelled widely raiding the settlements of others. The Aztecs engauged in agriculture but also continually raided their neighbors for food, wealth, and sacrifical slaves. Obviously your race are not stereotypical barbarians.

Though I have put descriptive text in there, you may be right on the part that it wasn't enough. :)

It's because most of them are farmers, and farmers use scythes a lot. I see farmers as being Commoners in DnD, and they are proficient with "one simple weapon". I'd think that if they would use the scythe a lot, they would be more familiar with it.

Also if their bodies are composed of "extraplanar chaos" matter then shouldn't they be Outsiders or at least have the SUBTYPE of Chaos (vulnerable to spells that affect chaotic creatures). I left out all of the fluff this time (third race of mine here) because I just didn't want to bother with typing it all out for once and focusing on the mechanics first. The fluff is all in my head, and some of it is up there, but most of it still needs typing out, yes. Also, they aren't composed of extraplanar chaos, extraplanar chaos had a hand in their creation, which grants them their special ability. The lycanthropic angle might be a good one otherwise, and fits the farmer thing better, and would work quite as well, so I might change it to be like that.

Automatic Languages: All creatures other than humans (or human built constructs) have a bonus racial language. Do your creatures have their own language or are the a human "sub-race".

Well, since they are so different from humans (at least mechanically), I did not want to make them a human subrace. There are also a few races/creatures that do not have a racial language. Might add that, though.

Actually, I don't know. I discovered the slight build on the Wizards site, but the AC/attack bonus thing either wasn't there or I overlooked it.

Obviously they are not, but they just didn't strike me as magic-oriented, even in a minor way, and not Rogue-ish either. What was left was Monk, Fighter and Barbarian for me (I don't know too much of classes outside core). Barbarian seemed to fit best.

I checked the exerpt (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/we/20060420a) I read about the Slight Build in, and AC/AB bonus are not affected, merely opposed checks, such as Hide.

With so many ability mods you may want to change its type to outsider.

I thought about that, but there are other, non-outsider races that have ability mods to every stat (and I am not talking about giants here). Besides, changing its type to outsider would also give it extra edges, such as immunity to certain spells, and I don't want that.
