Same as elf but proficient with hand crossbow and rapier
Darkvision 120' and light sensitivity-when exposed abruptly to bright light, dazzled for one round and take -1 on all attacks and precision based actions as long as they stay in the area.
1/day-faerie fire, darkness. CL=class level, DC is charisma based.

Hope this helps:D

from Faerun Campaign Setting book

basically, it's all the usual drow stats save for the following to make them "lesser"

-60ft darkvision, not 120'
-no spell resistance

everything else it pretty much the same

I would start with what 1 ton ghost suggested, but also take away their Darkness 1/day and their +2 Intelligence/Charisma.

Darkness comes as a major blow to one of the coolest things Drow have, however, but I doubt its possible to get away with still having it with LA +0.

The Drow

Drow characters are popular choices for players who like to play evil characters, as well as for those who enjoy scimitar-wielding, misunderstood outcasts. This racial class offers a set of base racial abilities plus two racial levels.

Ability Score Adjustments: +2 Dexterity, -2 Constitution, +2 Intelligence.

I really like Rogue Shadows idea, but i would recomend lowing darkvision to 60 ft., change the +2 to all will saves to just mind affecting spells, and take away darkness. other than that, it sounds quite reasonable. especially when Con hurts you no matter what level you are, you just cant counteract loosing health.

Do NOT use this!!!!

It (and most of the LA+0 racial types before advancement) are horribly overpowered.

In particular that LA+0 Drow gets +2 Dex and +2 Int for -2 Con. That's absolutely verboten for an LA+0 race. No LA+0 race should get more attribute bonuses than minuses. Worse one of those racial bonuses is mental which creatures huge problems in of itself.

No. The best way to do an LA+0 Drow is to identify the two key things that make a Drow an almost mandatory LA+2. They are:

1. Unbalanced (high) ability scores.
2. Spell Resistance.

Thus to fix 1. give Drow the same attribute bonuses and penalties that other elves get (i.e. +2 Dex/-2Con). Then to fix 2, simply remove the SR. You can probably keep the +2 saves vs all spells. You can also probably keep the Darkvision 120' since the race also has lightblindness.

You're done.

If you look at Rogue Shadows idea, they are getting +2 dex and +2 cha for =2 con. Not terrible at all, especially when u lower DV, take out SR, and keap light ssensitivity. the Charisma only helps for scorcers and bards on paper, while the int helps on both paper and game. the Cha aint that terribly powerfuly unless you are one of the befor said classes. It makes them quite balanced if you ask me.

Actually Rogue Shadow's idea is a terrible one. First of all, to evaluate any attribute bonus properly, you have to look at the case where it gives the maximum bonus, and for +2 Charisma that's the sorcerer. +2 Charisma gives NINE spell-focus feats AND bonus spells (note the plural) that improve as the character goes up in level. Worse, there is absolutely no attribute drawback for this ability (since the +2 Dex and -2 Con cancel).

It's terribly overpowered for LA+0. Just the fact it has more bonuses than minuses makes it overpowered at LA+0 even without the mental attribute bonus. It's also not very well thought out (nor are most LA+0 templates for LA > 0 races for Savage Species style racial progression).

Just use the lesser drow in the Player's Guide to Faerun or the drow racial class in the Drow of the Underdark.

With drow, I'm not against just dropping the LA all togeather. If you just give the other players some nice starting item to balance the power alittle it seems to work out fine. Plus, I dont like how level adjustment screws with your player's hp and class progression, so I'd rather balance the drow in game with the other characters, than rely on some retarded LA system that does its job half-a**ed.

I think balancing this way with no LA helps the player enjoy the "monster" race more, and the other players become more accepting to one player getting to play a "monster" race.

Actually for Drow this is a terrible idea. Unlike most other races, the primary Drow racial abilities that give it the LA actually scale with level (i.e. their SR and +2 Int/Cha depending on Arcane casting class). Very few racial abilities do, but these do. That's why allowing level buy-off for Drow is also a terrible idea. There is no item in the book that gives anything close to the SCALING drow racial abilities.

Its like you don't realize that as levels progress I can "reward" the other players so its not imbalanced...

Your right, but I think its still a better plan to balance the other players with rewards.

# Rather than using LA(the player gets the raw deal of less hp and class abilities) just so they can enjoy playing an uncommon race.(and really, will they enjoy it half as much with less hp and class abilities?)

# And I also don't want to take away the drow's abilities to balance them... the pc is playing the drow to have those abilities.

It all just seems so much more simple to balance the pcs in game with rewards... If thats not your style you will never agree with me. Its understandable that lots of people don't want to have to balance the pcs, if your one of them you'll stick to your guns, but if you do get good at balancing pc power it will only help your game.

#You could say, "Your making the game more fun for the Pc with the drow" and all you have to do is a little rewarding, that Honestly, I don't see the pcs B****ing about.

Yes it is. What you are forced to do by your own admission is either:

a. Give special treatment to those players that don't play the drow.

b. (de facto) Give special treatment to the player of the drow character by allowing them to have these abilities without cost in the first place.

Giving special treatment (or even perceived special treatment) is a horrible idea in an RPG. If I have to explain why, then I can't help you.

Sorry, I confused what I ment in that last line of my post...(probably)

Just balance pc power so all pcs are nearly as powerfull as each other every now and then. No favoritizim.

The drow would start with less rewards at the start of the game, but would otherwise be balanced with the other pcs power wise.

Some masterwork items and a few magic trinkets might do this nicely.

Later on, the story might have those items or trinkets playing key roles in quests, leading to enchantments and such. Not difficult to sketch in at all.

Kakerate,

No. I understand what you are saying perfectly well. However, I don't think the converse is true.

In order to "balance" out by your subjective view the drow PC against the others, you have to physically intervene in the game and explicitly favor the other PCs. That's unfair, and it creates a bad game. [Whether it's actually balanced or not, the perception of favoritism is bad.]

If you don't, then that's also unfair and favors the Drow PC. That's bad too.

In short, don't.
