| StruckingFuggle06-24-07, 10:43 PM | Just curious, and I didn't really find anything on a search for on it. If you remove the -2 cha and -2 wis penalties to Orcs, so they're just +4 str -2 int, does this alone (well, on top of their other racial traits) make them LA +1, or what else could fill them out as a solid +1 LA? As in, better than a Tiefling, but not quite as good as a Goliath? ...Well, there's Powerful Build, but I don't want to give them powerful build. |
| Wylantern06-24-07, 10:55 PM | Rage as a barbarian once a day stackable with barbarian? Maybe? |
| bahamut92006-24-07, 11:11 PM | +2 Con. Also, you might change their role a little and give them a +2 or +4 on Craft (Weaponsmithing) and Craft (Armorsmithing) checks. Maybe all orcs are warriors in the truest sense of the word, and a rite of adulthood is to make your own weapon and armor, then use it to slay an enemy. Giving them rage is also a good suggestion, as the guy above me said. |

For my two coppers, if you gave Orcs +2 Con, and something minor (a point of natural armor for example), then you'd probably have a very solid LA+1 race for a warrior type. I'd also point out that if you gave Orcs +2 Strength and -2 Int and kept everthing else the same, you'd have a very reasonable LA+0 race...perhaps even a slightly weak one. For that matter, I'd probably go ahead and try Orcs as +2 Str/-2 Cha with light-sensitivity and Darkvision...and LA+0. A pretty meh race, but well suited for dangerous NPC warrior types I think....and it allows for them to be NPC casters as well (both varients do actually). -Polaris |
| AAB06-25-07, 04:58 AM | IMO if you drop the str bonus to +2 and keep light sensitivity you're dooming all orcs. |
| DreamerInsane06-25-07, 06:07 AM | Gray Orcs. +2 to Str and Wis, -2 to Int and Cha. |
| tiluvias9906-25-07, 09:56 AM | Water Orcs. +0 LA, +4 Str, +2 Con, -2 Int, -2 Wis, -2 Cha. In the SRD. They pwn. And they can swim. |
| Ogg06-25-07, 10:05 AM | Gray Orcs. +2 to Str and Wis, -2 to Int and Cha. Yeah I was going to mention Gray Orcs from Unapproachable East. And they're even on the wizard site so here: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ex/20030301a&pf=true Gotta love a 40' move. |
| AMGriffin06-25-07, 11:34 AM | an La+1 orc would probably be the basic orc with one or two of it's mental penalties removed, +1 natural armor, and no light sensitivity, and you could add some flavor stuff, like +2 to intimidate checks and such. |
| Polaris06-25-07, 12:15 PM | IMO if you drop the str bonus to +2 and keep light sensitivity you're dooming all orcs. I don't think so. It's dead easy to side-step light-sensitivity especially if you are a monster/NPC and not an adventurer (and it's not hard even for an adventurer). It's worth -1 feat (Daylight Adaption gets rid of it). -Polaris |
| RealSorceror06-25-07, 01:07 PM | What was the Orc varient from Races of Destiny? They where smart. And blue. |
| Andyr06-25-07, 02:09 PM | Sharakim, I think. But IIRC they weren't really Orcs, but instead humans who were cursed to look like Orcs or something, so their culture was quite different. |

This (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ex/20030301a) is a better link IMHO. It looks normal now. The "&pf=true" screws it up. |

| Shedeo06-26-07, 05:33 PM | The way we made a LA +1 Orc in our setting was this- +4 Strength, +2 Constitution -2 Intelligence, -2 Charisma Darkvision 60' Rage 1/day, or an additional rage/day if a barbarian. Armored Movement: No penalty for movemen in medium or heavy armor. +2 Climb, Jump, Survival, and Intimidate. Weapon Familiarity: Orcish Poleaxe Favored Class: Fighter Orcish Poleaxe: 1d12 (medium), 20x4 crit. When the wielder of an Orcish Poleaxe power attacks for 5 or more, the weapon can also be used as a reach weapon that can strike adjacent targets as well. That was our take on it. More on topic, however, without the mental hinderances, I would peg them something like this. +4 Strength -2 Charisma Rage 1/day, or an additional rage/day if a barbarian. +1 Natural Armor +2 Craft (weaponsmithing), Craft (armorsmithing), Survival, and Intimidate Armored Mobility: Can move in medium or heavy armor with no penalty to speed. Favored Class: Fighter. |
| G_Mancer06-26-07, 06:22 PM | haven't i seen a "race" of orcs that were smarter in the one of the later MMs? no penalty to int, favored class fighter... la+1 or something anyone know what i'm talking about? |
| StruckingFuggle06-26-07, 10:31 PM | This is what I ended up going with. THE ORC: +4 str, +2 con, -2 dex, -2 int: While strong and tough, as well as cunning and proud. They're less gainly, though, and while not at all stupid, they're nonetheless less technical and bookish. Base land speed 35' : they're ever so slightly faster than other normal medium-sized humanoids, but not as swift as others. Darkvision 60' Light sensitivity An Orc with 3/4 or full bab in their first level class is automatically proficient with the battleaxe and the longbow, and those who have 1/2 bab for their first level class are profieicnt with the handaxe and shortbow. +2 bonus to handle animal and ride checks involving any sort of animal wolf - wolves, dire wolves, worg, etc. Favored class: Ranger THE HALF-ORC: +2 str, -2 int: Not as strong or as tough as their orc parents, yet generally more nimble. Base land speed 30' Darkvision 60', Low-Light Vision. Half-orcs gain one extra skill point per level, and four extra skill points at first level. Half-orcs are automatically proficient with one martial slashing weapon of their choice. +1 racial bonus on fortitude saves - despite not being fully as hardy as an orc, they are still resilient. Orc Blood: For all effects related to race, a half-orc is considered an orc. Favored class: Fighter OR Ranger |
| Nat_2006-27-07, 10:34 PM | I have a home-brew orc that dosnt have such big penalties and have no level adjustment. here they are... Kru'vash Silver Orcs. +4 Str, -2 Dex, -2 Int Darkvision superior low light vision, can see 3 times as far as a human in tourch and moon light. +2 bonus to any Craft check +2 to Climb and Jump checks +2 to Spot checks +1 bonus on attack and damage rolls against giants Gain Track as a bonus feat. Favored Class: Barbarian I've been told they are a really good and balanced race... |
