LA and Level Loss [Archive] - Wizards Community

04-23-07, 12:38 AM Utilizing the optional level adjustment reduction rules from unearthed arcana, I find there is a scenario that isn't covered very well.

Level loss.

Let's say I'm playing a... human half dragon barbarian (LA +3) and I advance to level nine in barbarian and possibly a prestige class or three, then proceed to pay the necessary experience to reduce my level adjustment, making my LA +2 and my ECL 11.

Now, after this point, I am for one reason or another the victijm of a permanent level draining effect.

Do I:

A. Regain my former level adjustment when reduced beneath level nine because the reduction was level dependent?

B. Keep my new level adjustment because I've paid for the reduction the way a character pays for a permanent magic item?

C. Regain my old level adjustment until reaching level nine again for a reason beyond mere DM cruelty?

04-23-07, 09:57 AM 1. When you reduce your LA, you also lose a level. so you ECL goes down by 2.

04-23-07, 10:05 AM B. Keep my new level adjustment because I've paid for the reduction the way a character pays for a permanent magic item? Just remember that, when you get back to the same level where you used LA buyoff the first time, you cannot use it at that level again.
