I cannot find the suggestion that LA could be applied as a negative modifier to Skill Checks, Ability Checks, Attack Rolls and Caster Levels. Thing is I can't remember just how many things these 'negative modifiers' apply to. I think it uses the same method as the LA Buyoff in Unearthed Arcana, but instead of having 'dead' levels, the Characters start off with the negative modifiers and can pay off those negative modifiers by using XP gained through normal leveling. Thing is, the way I remember it working, those levels could be paid off at any level, meaning that the PC could get a few HD under their belts without having 2-5 'dead' levels with no HD or Saves and then spend that precious XP to reduce the LA. |

Sounds logical, but LA cost is already: - Skill points - HD(and thus Bonus feats and Attribute Bonuses) - Class Features(including caster levels) - BAB - Saving throws. Anyway that suggestion sounds like this: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/iw/20040215a&page=2 To lower LA of races for a Forgotten Realms Campaign. |
