We have a player who wants to play one still. My only question is that I was unsure if by making them Tiny that would warrant some sort of level adjustment. I seem to remember seeing a very well done "guide" to level adjustment based on stats/size, ect. and was wondering how changing this creature to tiny for his game would effect it. |

Adjusting for size, the Pixie would get -4 Str, +2 Dex, -1 natural armor. It loses it's natural reach. I swear that they get an additional +1 to ac and to hit because of their size, (and perhaps an additional bonus to the hide skill), but I can't find the table detailing creature size and the benefits anywhere... To begin with, your standard Pixie isn't about to go wading into combat with so few hit dice. Their favored class is sorcerer, but it's actually not the optimal choice when you have at least LA +4, (+6 with Irresistible Dance). The same for Druid and Cleric. With a huge boost to dex, (+8 before we change the size), cha (+6), and int (+6), plus Greater Invisibility, they make great Rogues. Either way, they're going to hold back, be invisible, and either fling spells or arrows, (remember; just because a small arrow does less damage, the sneak attack does not do less damage. Being invisible really helps to keep your opponent flat-footed). Making them tiny instead of small does not hinder this strategy in any way. The penalty to Str doesn't affect the Pixie in the least, the penalty to natural armor is negated by the boost to Dex, and everything else is about the same. I would say it's about a +1 to +2 change. One good hit is going to take the pixie down, but with the invisibility and Dex it's going to be hard to hit it. Taking levels in rouge will give it evasion, combined with the Dex, making it difficult to impossible to take it out with an area of effect spell. |
