10-04-07, 05:05 PM It's a qualitative difference, not a quantitative one. So there is no appropriate LA for such creatures to be PCs.

10-04-07, 06:14 PM I might consider lowering the level adjustment by a couple if you wanted to actually play, for instance, a pseudodragon. The Cohort level adjustment assumes you have one of these IN ADDITION to a PC. If you have an imp or a pseudodragon or a glimmerskin INSTEAD of a PC, that's something else all together.

10-06-07, 09:06 AM I don't know. In my opinion, a lot of the cohort only races look more powerful than they're LA's. And I do realize that they are (cohort) because they make playing difficult on a player. A blink dog has no hands or thumbs, a petal can't interact with the enviroment well. Etc.

I think if I want to play a Petal, I'm going to have to raise it's LA. It's got a +10Dex and +8Cha, +4Con and Int. Tiny which is +2 to hit and ac. DR, flight, free weapon finese, low-light vision and your a fey so immune to person spells. All for a +2LA? The -8Str accounts for 8 points of dex or the mentals. So is it balanced for me to play one?

I need more feed back. Check out some of the other cohort only creatures. Are they overpowered for a PC? Help?

10-06-07, 09:43 AM None. Some monsters can be used as cohorts as they possess useful abilities which will not break the game. However, they are still not viable as PCs because they lack certain abilities expected of PCs, such as opposable thumbs (to open doors, disarm traps etc), ability to speak (to interact in social settings) and the like.

You can allow them as PCs at the LA given (and I am fairly sure they will not be overpowering), but do bear in mind any possible drawbacks/limitations and make sure you have ways of circumventing them.:)
