| nighttree03-27-07, 10:33 PM | Just found a "better" method of "expressing" a character I'm playing in a current game in Dragon #354. I was using the "Tenacious Soul" template....but it was a bit "much" (basically renders the character Un-killable)....but some of the feats in the newest Dragon gave me a "framework" to work with. I created a template based on the new feats....and would love to get some input as to a fair LA for the template. Endless Template Abilities: +2 Con, +2 Cha Immunities (Ex): Ability Drain, Disease, Energy drain, and magical aging. Endless (Ex): A creature with this special quality ceases to age. The creature exists in a special kind of physiological stasis, counteracting all the consequences of advancing years that usually lead to frailty and eventual death. While they must still perform all the necessary sustaining actions (eating, sleeping, breathing and so on) normally demanded of their type, they never suffer from any sort of physical deterioration or consequent reduction of strength, dexterity, and constitution. Die Hard (Ex): When reduced to between –1 and –9 hit points, you automatically become stable. You don’t have to roll d% to see if you loose 1 hit point each round. When reduced to negative hit points, you may choose to act as if you where disabled, rather than dying. If you do not choose to act as if disabled, you immediately fall unconscious. Tenacious Life force (Ex): Whenever you fall prey to an attack that reduces you from positive to –10 or fewer, make a Fortitude save (DC 25 – your level). If you succeed, you take 2D4 points of strength and constitution "ability Burn", but find yourself alive with 1 hit point. Wed to history: Throughout your long life, you have acquired a vast amount of information and experience. You may make a Lore check (Bardic Knowledge), as a Bard of equal level. Just to help with calculations....it's basically a +2 to con & cha.... 3 feats (die hard, Wedded to history, Pawn in the great game) Bardic Knowledge (as a bard of your level)..... Timeless body..... and the immunities to Death spells, drain, and negatice energy damage. The ECL calculator I ran it through comes out to +1.3 = +2 LA..... What do you good people think ???? |
| bobothechimp03-27-07, 10:45 PM | +2 sounds fair, if you remove Tenacious Life Force, otherwise it is completely broken. |
| nighttree03-27-07, 11:16 PM | +2 sounds fair, if you remove Tenacious Life Force, otherwise it is completely broken. Sooo....leave the template at +2 (actually the loss of that one feat would put it square on +1 LA)....and just take the feat(Pawn in the great game) that does the same thing ??? |
| WinterPsionic03-27-07, 11:24 PM | Just to verify by -10 or fewer we're talking about 0 to -10 right?(stupid question I'm sure but when I think fewer then -10 I'm thinkin like -21) Assuming the above is a yes I'd say it need to be AT LEAST a +2, the whole DC25-your level seems a little backwards but whatever. |
| nighttree03-27-07, 11:34 PM | The exact wording of the feat is "Whenever you fall prey to an attack that reduces you from positive hit points to -10 or fewer" (my bolds). Then you make the Fort save to bring you back to 1 ht point. So if an attack put's you at -8 HP....then the "Diehard" feat comes into play..... The - level to the DC seems meant to make you "harder to kill" the higher your level is. |
| WinterPsionic03-28-07, 12:40 AM | Ya I got that, but at the same time as you level your Fort save goes up and the race has a Con bonus so overall it just seems a tad...odd. |
| nighttree03-28-07, 09:45 AM | Ya I got that, but at the same time as you level your Fort save goes up and the race has a Con bonus so overall it just seems a tad...odd. I got ya....I actually had'nt put the Fort leveling up with level, plus the - your level to the DC together....that is a bit wierd of them.... Then again....the whole point of the feat is that your not being released (at least not easily) from this life....(shrugs). |
| nighttree03-28-07, 12:55 PM | I removed some of the immunities (it still seemed like a bit much).... And adjusted the template a bit closer to the actual feats. it comes out to a +1.5 (rounded to +2) FYI: The "Ancient PCS...Playing Elders in D&D" article in Dragon #354 has some pretty neat ideas and info in it. Check it out if you get the chance :D |
| bobothechimp03-28-07, 04:31 PM | Make it so the STR/CON damage from Tenacious Life Force still affects creatures that are immune to ability drain/damage, then it's fine. |
| Yadot03-28-07, 06:57 PM | I would have the STR/CON damage from Tenacious Life Force be Ability Burn so it can't be healed magicly. |
| nighttree03-28-07, 10:16 PM | Not sure I'm following....... "Make it so the STR/CON damage from Tenacious Life Force still affects creatures that are immune to ability drain/damage, then it's fine." They are immune to "Ability Drain" NOT immune to "Ability Damage"...so the STR/CON damage would occure, and they would have to heal themselves. Basically instead of dying.....they are weakened and need to heal for awhile (Hit points, and the STR/CON damage) before they are back to "full strength". " I would have the STR/CON damage from Tenacious Life Force be Ability Burn so it can't be healed magicly." I will have to look into that....that might be a good idea.....:D Thanks for the feedback guys. |
