large creatures [Archive] - Wizards Community

10-20-07, 04:20 PM are there any with only a plus one modifier or are they all plus 2. cause i want to make a half dragon that is large so it gets wings.

Oh well, may as well make use of this double post. Here's an idea for a race that's technically Large, for the purposes of things like Hulking Hurler, War Hulk, and your desire for a winged Half-Dragon:

Large, skinny, and mostly hairless. Shaped a bit like a werewolf. Thick hands and semi-quadrupedal, with stumpy tail.
Monsterous Humanoid
Large(Long) size
5ft reach
+2 Str, -2 Dex, +2 Cha
30ft speed
+10ft speed when moving on all four limbs, with hands empty, and wearing medium or lighter armor with proficiency.
Never proficient with any armor unless it is custom-built.
Level Adjustment +1

How's that sound for a balanced +1 race? It could be made +0 with some tweaking, I bet.

Weapon Familiarity: Tauren may treat tauren halberds and totems as martial weapons rather than exotic.
Weapon Proficiency: Tauren receive the martial weapon proficiency for longspears and shortspears.
+2 bonus on handle animal and survival checks, class skills for tauren
+1 racial bonus on attacks with longspears and shortspears
Favored Class fighter
LA: +1

10-20-07, 11:49 PM The Tauren are built for Warcraft. They're more than just a bit outside the norms for D&D races. They are really cool, but perhaps not wholly compatible. I'd peg 'em at a +2 HD race, at least. Maybe +1 LA, +2 HD, but that sounds a bit harsh.

10-21-07, 12:54 AM my group housed ruled that no matter what size half-dragon you are you get wings. I'm guessing we aren't the only group that has that house rule so run it by your DM and see if he/she agrees with it.
