I like the idea of roleplaying a Nymph or similar Fey, but the Racial HD and LA of a Nymph is ridiculous, so I'm trying to develop a lesser cousin of the Nymph, with +2 LA. The loss of 2 caster levels should discourage anyone from abusing Cha-based primary spellcasters with this race.

Tell me what you think and should be changed.

Lesser Nymphs as Characters
* -2 Con, +6 Charisma. (or +2 dex, -4 Con, +6 Charisma. nor sure which yet)
* Medium Size.
* A Lesser Nymph's land speed is 30 feet.
* Low-Light Vision: A Lesser Nymph sees twice as far as a human in poor illumination. She retains the ability to discern colors.
* Racial skills: Lesser Nymphs have a +2 racial bonus on Diplomacy and Survival. They also always have Survival as a class skill, no matter what classes they advance in.
* Racial Feats: A Lesser Nymph gets 1 extra feat at 1st level, as a Human does.
* Special Attacks: Lesser Blinding Beauty, spell-like abilities, Lesser Stunning Glance. (See below)
* Special Qualities: Animal Diplomacy, Damage reduction, Tend to Nature, Vigilante Grace. (See below)
* Automatic Languages: Common, Sylvan. Bonus Languages: Any.
* Favored Class: Any.
* Level Adjustment +2.

Animal Diplomacy (Ex): A Lesser Nymph can use body language, vocalization, and demeanor to improve the attitude of an animal or magical beast, much like a Druid uses her Wild empathy feature. However, a Lesser Nymph does a Diplomacy check instead of the usual roll a Druid does.

Damage Reduction (Ex): Starting at 4 HD, Lesser Nymph shrugs off some amount of injury from each blow unless the blow comes from a Cold Iron weapon. A Lesser Nymph gets damage reduction of 1/Cold Iron at 4 HD, and the reduction increases by 1 for every 4 HD she has beyond 4th.

Tend to Nature(Su): A Lesser Nymph with a charisma score of 12 or higher can heal wounds of animals and magical beasts by touch. Each day she can heal a total number of hitpoints of damage equal to her (HD+1)*her Charisma bonus. For example, a 1st level Lesser Nymph Fighter with 18 Charisma (+4 bonus) can heal 8 points of damage per day. She may choose to divide her healing among multiple recipients, and she doesn't have to use it all at once. Using Tend to Nature is a standard action.

Lesser Blinding Beauty (Su): This ability affects all humanoids within 30 feet of a Lesser Nymph. Those who look directly at a nymph must succeed on a Fortitude save of DC 13 + the Lesser Nymph's Charisma bonus or be dazzled for as long as he looks at the Lesser Nymph, and for 2 rounds afterwards. A Lesser Nymph can suppress or resume this ability as a free action.

Lesser Stunning Glance (Su): As a standard action, a Lesser Nymph can daze a creature within 30 feet with a look. The target creature must succeed on a Fortitude save of DC 7 + 1/2 the Lesser Nymph's HD (rounded up) + the Lesser Nymph's Charisma bonus or be dazed for 2d2 rounds. A Lesser Nymph can use this ability a number of times equal to 1 + her HD/4 (rounded down). For example, a level 6 Lesser Nymph Cleric can use this ability 1 + 6/4 = 2 times a day.

Spell-Like Abilities: 1/day - Endure Elements. A Lesser Nymph of 3 or more HD also has the following 1/day - Barkskin, Eagle's Splendor. Caster level is equal to the Lesser Nymph's HD.

Vigilante Grace (Su): A Lesser Nymph adds half her Charisma modifier as a bonus on her Will saves.

Anyone have any thought about whether this preserves the flavor of the Feys while making it a viable PC race?

How many hit Die does it start with?

No racial hitdice, so you'll be behind in hitpoints, and that con penalty is going to hurt, but in return, you've got nifty abilities.

IMO, it has some neat flavor. I really like the Lay Animals.
I'd place the template at LA +3 or +4.
To tone it done, I'd drop the charisma bonus to +4, drop the DR and spell like abilities, replace animal diplomacy with a +2 to +6 bonus on wild empathy and handle animal checks.

I've made some minor changes to it. Not quite ready to drop the DR yet, but I suppose I could do that to preserve the flavor if need be. Skill bonuses are gone, and so is Animal Diplomacy. I've also made it either Barkskin OR Eagle's Splendor. Player has to choose.

Lesser Nymphs as Characters (They are Fey, but are also treated as humanoids when it is favorable to do so, such as when receiving an Enlarge Person spell)
* -2 Con, +6 Charisma.
* Medium Size.
* A Lesser Nymph's land speed is 30 feet.
* Low-Light Vision: A Lesser Nymph sees twice as far as a human in poor illumination. She retains the ability to discern colors.
* Racial Feats: A Lesser Nymph gets 1 extra feat at 1st level, as a Human does.
* Special Attacks: Lesser Blinding Beauty, spell-like abilities, Lesser Stunning Glance. (See below)
* Special Qualities: Damage reduction, Lay Animals, Vigilante Grace. (See below)
* Automatic Languages: Common, Sylvan. Bonus Languages: Any.
* Favored Class: Any.
* Level Adjustment +2.

Lay Animals (Su): A Lesser Nymph with a charisma score of 12 or higher can heal wounds of animals and magical beasts by touch. Using Lay Animals is a standard action.

Lesser Blinding Beauty (Su): This ability affects all humanoids within 30 feet of a Lesser Nymph. Those who look directly at a nymph must succeed on a Fortitude save of DC 8 + 1/2 the Lesser Nymph's HD (rounded down) + the Lesser Nymph's Charisma bonus or be dazzled for as long as he looks at the Lesser Nymph, and for 2 rounds afterwards. If he looks at the Lesser Nymph before the 2 rounds are up, he does not get another save. He is still dazzled, and must look away for another 2 rounds before recovering from the dazzled condition. If he makes the save, he can't be affected again by this ability for the next 24 hours. A Lesser Nymph can suppress or resume this ability as a free action.

Lesser Stunning Glance (Su): As a standard action, a Lesser Nymph can daze a creature within 30 feet with a look. The target creature must succeed on a Fortitude save of DC 8 + 1/2 the Lesser Nymph's HD (rounded down) + the Lesser Nymph's Charisma bonus or be dazed for 1+1d4 rounds.

A Lesser Nymph of 3 or more HD also has the following 1/day - Barkskin or Eagle's Splendor. The player must choose whether the Lesser Nymph can use Barkskin or Eagle's Splendor as a SLA at character creation. Caster level is equal to the Lesser Nymph's HD.

Vigilante Grace (Su): A Lesser Nymph adds half her Charisma modifier as a bonus on her Will saves.

What? You want like Lay On Animals instead? I thought that sounded wierd.

Well, in certain forms of English vernacular, the phrase "lay animals" would imply sexual relations between the nymph and the animal, which of course is a bit too naughty for D&D.

I know you were trying to pick a name most similar to "lay on hands" like the paladin ability, but just to be safe, you may as well change the name entirely to "tend to nature."

Ahh. Well, Tend to Nature sounds good too, so I changedit. Any other thoughts?

i dont know,i like lay animals,but thats just me. my thoughts were that since it has a con penalty it probably wont be a warrior class,so you might want to tweak it a bit to lower its la because magic classes tend to be3 morelevel dependant than the others and a level adjustment can screw with that. other than that i like it.
