| nighttree08-07-07, 09:53 AM | In the "Savage progression" archive, there are several low "level adjusted races" so that a character can begin at level 1. However....no mention is made of "racial Hit Die" ? I cant believe you start out as a 1st level character, then progress to 2nd level, etc.....without gaining ANY hit points (not to mention no BA/saves etc) ? Am I missing something ? How is this supposed to work ? |
| wonlee7608-07-07, 10:10 AM | Well, some races simply only have a Level Adjustment and no Racial HD. So those low level adjustment races (I'm presuming you're looking at Aasimar, Tiefling, Drow or similar races) have progressions starting at level 1 but no HD or class advancement until you you get the number of levels appropriate for the level adjustment in question. Savage Species has level progressions for monsters with HD and LA like minotaurs and whatnot. |

| strenoth08-07-07, 10:31 AM | strange, I hit quick reply and gets the quote reply.. anyway, I think the problem he is having, is thinking about how he's supposed to get his FIRST hit die, so his character has HP, any HP at ell, etc. Those purely-LA races break the normal SS rule of "all racial levels first." You have to take 1, and only 1, level of a normal class at first level, THEN you take the LA levels of your race. |

That was what was confusing me, I just could'nt see trying to play for two levels with 0 hp, and no BA. Thanks Strenoth |

This is not correct. Creatures with only LA and no racial hit dice only get the hit die provided by their selected class; not the hit die associated with their type. |

Even with the Savage Progression articles presented for these LA+1 races? How do you figure that since their first level is the race itself, not in a class. What would the player write down as HP if it hasn't taken a level in a class yet? |

What would the player write down as HP if it hasn't taken a level in a class yet? You're supposed to take one class level before you start the savage progression for those races. You create a normal 1st-level character, with one class level and the base racial features. Then, on your second level, you gain the 1st level of the racial class. |
| Amaril08-07-07, 10:25 PM | OK so I start with these Aasimar Base Racial Features: All of the following are base racial abilities for the aasimar. Ability Score Adjustments: +2 Charisma. Outsider Type: Aasimar are native outsiders. Thus, they are vulnerable to spells and effects that work on creatures of the outsider type but immune to effects that target other types. For example, an aasimar would be subject to the extra damage from an outsider bane sword but immune to hold person, since that spell affects only humanoids. Size: Aasimar are Medium size. Speed: Aasimar base land speed is 30 feet. Darkvision (Ex): An aasimar has darkvision to a 60-foot range. Light (Sp): The aasimar may use light (caster level equals aasimar's character level) once per day. Skill Bonuses: An aasimar has a +2 racial bonus on Listen and Spot checks. Resistances (Ex): An aasimar starts play with resistance 2 to acid, cold, and electricity. Automatic Languages: Celestial, Common. Bonus Languages: Draconic, Dwarven, Elven, Gnome, Halfling, Sylvan. Favored Class: Paladin. A multiclass aasimar's paladin class does not count when determining whether an experience point penalty applies. and then add on this level at a later level? Level CR Special 1st +0 Wis +2, daylight, resistances (acid 5, cold 5, electricity 5)That makes more sense. I assumed it was all applied at the same time for some reason. I just misread it. Thanks for clarifying. |
