| Mark_Aged09-15-07, 09:34 PM | Where can I find a list of secret languages? The only one's I know of are Druidic and Drow Sign Language. |
| Skritz_the_Lizardmen09-16-07, 05:52 PM | They are the only one as far as i can tell. |
| ragoftag09-16-07, 06:01 PM | You can always add your own. I have a secret 'code' that is used only by the Guilde Arcane in my game, and then only by those who have metamagic feats. Somehow they have developed a way to understand each other through writing 'mistakes', coughs, etc. It has no entry on the language chart and is more a Mason's style recognition system. Various underworld groups have their own 'cant' or such. Teaching one of these to an outsider is punishable by death if you're lucky. The Hobgoblin nation has a military code spoken within combat that allows them to coordinate actions. Just a few... |
| key09-16-07, 10:54 PM | There's Thieves' Cant. |
| Mark_Aged09-16-07, 11:32 PM | Nah, Thieves' Cant, as cool as it was, was added to Bluff, under Delivering a Secret Message. Delivering a Secret Message: You can use Bluff to get a message across to another character without others understanding it. The DC is 15 for simple messages, or 20 for complex messages, especially those that rely on getting across new information. Failure by 4 or less means you can’t get the message across. Failure by 5 or more means that some false information has been implied or inferred. Anyone listening to the exchange can make a Sense Motive check opposed by the Bluff check you made to transmit in order to intercept your message (see Sense Motive). |
| Mark_Aged09-18-07, 01:31 PM | Bump. |
| Easalyamusedoldman09-18-07, 01:34 PM | Dwarves have a secret laguage. |
| Mark_Aged09-18-07, 01:36 PM | They do? What is it? |
| Easalyamusedoldman09-18-07, 01:44 PM | They do? What is it? A secret, duhh. Sorry, it's more like a racial language, they use it o talk to each other so noone knows what there saying. I thought it was in the PHB but i might have just been a Tolkin thing. |

| Senka09-18-07, 01:55 PM | Druidic is the only secret language I know of. Although several people have said otherwise, I haven't seen it written anywhere that Drow Sign is secret. |
| Mark_Aged09-18-07, 03:03 PM | Druidic is the only secret language I know of. Although several people have said otherwise, I haven't seen it written anywhere that Drow Sign is secret. Your right, I'm looking at the drow's entry in the MM, and Drow Sign Language is just in their list of languages, but not in the PHB. Well I'm at it, what language is Kuo-toan? Does anyone know of a book or website that has a complete list of all languages? |
| Easalyamusedoldman09-18-07, 03:13 PM | It's a Tolkien thing. Ok, i thought i saw something in one of the D&D books, but i guess i was confused... |
| Borris09-18-07, 07:10 PM | Well I'm at it, what language is Kuo-toan? Does anyone know of a book or website that has a complete list of all languages? Kuo-Toan is simply the language spoken by Kuo-Toas. As for a list of all languages, it would vary from setting to setting. Greyhawk, Forgotten Realms, DragonLance, and even Eberron all have regional languages not shared with any other campaign setting. But if you only care about langages mentioned in non-setting specific books, here's a short list. Using the style in the PHB table: Language Typical Speakers (Alphabet) Missing information regarding alphabet indicates either that the language has no written form, or that it's simply not given in the sourcebook Aboleth Aboleths Abyssal Demons, chaotic evil outsiders (Infernal) Aquan Water-based creatures (Elven) Auran Air-based creatures (Draconic) Beholder Beholders Celestial Good outsiders (Celestial) Common Humans, halflings, half-elves, half-orcs (Common) Draconic Kobolds, troglodytes, lizardfolk, dragons (Draconic) Drow Sign Language Drow Druidic Druids (only) (Druidic) Dwarven Dwarves (Dwarven) Elven Elves (Elven) Feline Catfolk Formian Formian myrmarchs and queens Giant Ogres, giants (Dwarven) Gith Githyanki, Githzerai Gnome Gnomes (Dwarven) Goblin Goblins, hobgoblins, bugbears (Dwarven) Gol'Kaa Goliaths, Feral Garguns (Dwarven) Gnoll Gnolls (Common) Halfling Halflings (Common) Ignan Fire-based creatures (Draconic) Illumian Illumians (Illumian) Infernal Devils, lawful evil outsiders (Infernal) Kuo-Toan Kuo-toas Maenad Meanads (Elven) Orc Orcs (Dwarven) Sahuagin Sahuagin Slaad Slaadi Sphinx Sphinxes Sylvan Dryads, brownies, leprechauns (Elven) Terran Xorns and other earth-based creatures (Dwarven) Thri-kreen Thri-kreens Treant Treants Tuilvilanuue Raptorans (Elven) Undercommon Drow (Elven) Xeph Xephs (Common) Yuan-Ti Yuan-ti Worg Worgs, Barghests |
