| crazytuco06-08-07, 03:44 PM | I'm sitting here at work trying to waste my lunch putting together a character I rolled up last night, but I forgot my MM. Do Lizardfolk have an INT modifier? |

| JudgeK06-08-07, 06:08 PM | Wow... this seems like a decent +1 LA race... Yes they're an ECL 3, but, still, 3 natural attacks and +5 nat armor and more bonuses to abilities than penalties. |
| Novacat06-08-07, 07:08 PM | Wow... this seems like a decent +1 LA race... Yes they're an ECL 3, but, still, 3 natural attacks and +5 nat armor and more bonuses to abilities than penalties. I've seen one as a PC with 14 levels of Barbarian on it, swinging a greataxe at anything that was foolish enough to get too close... nightmarish. |
| Neutronium_Dragon06-08-07, 08:14 PM | Two of those three ECLs come from humanoid hit dice though, which are pretty much garbage in terms of what they give you. While they're okay, a lizardfolk warrior type is thus going to have one point less total attack bonus and two points less BAB (which matters for several things) than an equivalent human, and his hit points aren't likely to be any better due to the weak first two hit dice and missing third one, even with the Con bonus. The natural armor *is* very helpful, though, and the other abilities can be situationally useful, although it's rare that using claws is going to be better than wielding proper combat gear. |
| Braekor Dragonfang06-08-07, 11:22 PM | remove the hit dice and I fail to see why the lizardfolk deserves them. Even with the large natural armor bonus, they're still on par with planetouched who actually get useful abilities and not... hold breath. Even factoring in natural attacks, it's not really worth the effort, which is disappointing because lizardfolk are a great race conceptually |
| JudgeK06-09-07, 12:07 AM | The natural armor more than makes up for the few attack bonus short. +5 AC versus approx. -2 attack. |
| runestar06-09-07, 03:13 AM | The benefits a lizardfolk gets appear to be the most useful at lower lvs, and therefore, it seems to make sense that it should be penalized the heaviest at lower lvs, to make up for this difference which is the most significant at such low lv.:) If you were to play a higher lv campaign where the lizardfolk's special abilities are overshadowed by the gear you could be accessing (such as natural attacks being moot thanks to +10 weapons), I could see an argument for buying off the LA or doing away with the racial HD. But at lower lvs where such resources tend to be more scarce, and thus, the lizardfolk's special abilities seem even more valuable by comparison. I feel the racial HD should stay. Or if you want to get rid of it, at least raise the LA to +2 to compensate. |
| The_Shaman06-09-07, 08:22 AM | You know, if it weren't for the racial HDs it might be an interesting monk race. +5 NA, bonuses to str and con, and 3 natural weapons? Can't say I would complain. Also, it would be good if you could use the monster progresion to get a decent first level for saves and skill points (i.e. ranger, druid, rogue, monk, etc). |
