| fenderbassman200901-23-08, 12:35 AM | can anyone tell me what the ability bonuses/penalties are for lizardfolk or where i can find them? im looking in the monster manual but im not finding anything showing them. and just all around the stats you need for a lizardfolk PC. the example in the MM was +5 natural armor. i figured that was pretty broken for a +1 LA. thanks for your help |
| Ivellius01-23-08, 01:10 AM | I'm not entirely sure what you mean, if you've already looked at the Lizardfolk entry. It has everything you need as far as racial bonuses/penalties. The +1 Level Adjustment is added on top of its base Hit Dice (in this case two), so the Lizardfolk "as is" has an Effective Character Level of 3. |
| fenderbassman200901-23-08, 11:50 AM | ok but the example in the entry has 5 natural armor. so is that what the character would have? and if i have another template added do it would it stack with the 5 or just whatever is higher? and are the saves added in with the class and what are the ability bonuses/penalties? sorry im asking so many questions im just a fairly new player and cant really find where to filter that info out. thanks for baring with me |
| Orchomenos01-23-08, 01:24 PM | They have +5 Natural Armor. Then if you apply a template, it would depend on the template. For example, the half-dragon template reads as follow: Armor Class: Natural armor improves by +4. Thus an half-dragon lizardfolk would have +9 Natural Armor. Or here is for the lich: Armor Class: A lich has a +5 natural armor bonus or the base creature’s natural armor bonus, whichever is better. In our case, a lizardfolk lich would only have +5 natural armor bonus. About the Saving Throw, you add the class base saving throw bonus to those of your class. A lizardfolk has Fort +0, Ref +3, and Will +0. If you add one level of rogue, you would have Fort +0, Ref +5, and Will +0; if you add one level of fighter, you would have Fort +2, Ref +3, and Will +0. As a humanoid, the Base Attack Bonus is 3/4 HD, as a cleric. So with an Equivalent Character Level of +3 (i.e., supposed to be as powerful as a 3rd level character), you have a BAB of +1 only. Also, only your first HD skill points are multiplied by 4. If you are a lizardfolk rogue 1, you have 8 + INT bonus skill points, not (8 + INT bonus) X 4 for a human rogue 1. The ability bonus/penalties are added on top of your scores. For example, let's say you roll the following ability scores: STR 15, DEX 14, CON 13, INT 12, WIS 10 & CHA 8. For a lizardfolk, it would give STR 17, DEX 14, CON 15, INT 10, WIS 10 & CHA 8. |

| windquake01-25-08, 06:40 AM | I played a Lizardfolk Monk one time...that +5 natural armor really helps out! He kicked so much *****! -Windquake |
| RobbyPants01-25-08, 08:51 AM | I played a Lizardfolk Monk one time...that +5 natural armor really helps out! He kicked so much *****! -Windquake Yeah, I think that's where most of the +1 LA comes from. The only reason it's not higher is because you're stuck taking two crappy racial hit dice. That's one of the two reasons kobolds don't suck too badly (the other being the 30 foot speed for a small creature). |
| fenderbassman200901-25-08, 05:07 PM | yeah racial hit die isnt really a problem because i am just making the character for fun and really don't have a remotely basic grasp on the idea of advanced character creation. im adding the half dragon template to it though to get even more armor and turning it into a dragonborn to make it reptilian up the a-hole |
| pres_man01-25-08, 05:59 PM | At the end of the lizardfolk entry you will find under "Lizardfolk as Characters": Lizardfolk characters possess the following racial traits. +2 Strength, +2 Constitution, -2 Intelligence. Medium size. A lizardfolk’s base land speed is 30 feet. Racial Hit Dice: A lizardfolk begins with two levels of humanoid, which provide 2d8 Hit Dice, a base attack bonus of +1, and base saving throw bonuses of Fort +0, Ref +3, and Will +0. Racial Skills: A lizardfolk’s humanoid levels give it skill points equal to 5 × (2 + Int modifier, minimum 1). Its class skills are Balance, Jump, and Swim. Lizardfolk have a +4 racial bonus on Balance, Jump, and Swim checks. Racial Feats: A lizardfolk’s humanoid levels give it one feat. Weapon and Armor Proficiency: A lizardfolk is automatically proficient with simple weapons and shields. +5 natural armor bonus. Natural Weapons: 2 claws (1d4) and bite (1d4). Special Qualities (see above): Hold breath. Automatic Languages: Common, Draconic. Bonus Languages: Aquan, Goblin, Gnoll, Orc. Favored Class: Druid. Level adjustment +1. There is all of the information you need to create a character. Notice that it does indead have racial HD and a LA so the earliest such a character would be balanced would be 3rd level. Now if you are interesting in adding the half-dragon template, then turn to the half-dragon entry and you'll see how to adjust the lizardfolk you have created. The half-dragon has an additional LA of +3, so now your character would be balanced until 6th level, and that is with a total of 2d8 hit dice. You might instead of going half-dragon, consider taking the base class dragon shaman (PHB II?). |
| Neutronium_Dragon01-26-08, 01:45 AM | Applying dragonborn to that will make an enormous mess of it, since the dragonborn template will nullify many of the traits of both lizardfolk and half-dragons. |
| hecknoshow01-26-08, 07:52 AM | Actually applying the half dragon template gives you 2d12s because it upgrades your racial (and only racial) hitdice. Still not great for level 6 but a little better. What classes are you going with? |
| fenderbassman200901-26-08, 03:48 PM | monk for the base class. as for prestige/multiclass i really havent thought much on it. does anyone have any better ideas with a lot less LA? because im going to be starting at level 6 so i dont want to be ecl 6 but class level 1. and now i have to basically remake all my other characters haha |
| pres_man01-27-08, 06:33 PM | Go kobold (stunted lizardfolk ;) ). Take a level of sorcerer. Take levels of monk. Eventually go into the dragon disciple PrC. LA: +0 |
| Angel Black01-28-08, 09:43 AM | can anyone tell me what the ability bonuses/penalties are for lizardfolk or where i can find them? im looking in the monster manual but im not finding anything showing them. and just all around the stats you need for a lizardfolk PC. the example in the MM was +5 natural armor. i figured that was pretty broken for a +1 LA. thanks for your help Lizardfold has +1 LA and 2 humanoid HDs.Humanoid Hd is worst than fighter HD's, and hurt the multiclass. That's why they are not broken :D |
| fenderbassman200901-29-08, 09:43 PM | id rather not have a complicated multiclassing character. just a basic +0 or +1 with all monk levels unless there are any good prestige classes you can get by 6th or 7th level. any suggestions? |
