| pegasuspaladin03-02-07, 06:24 PM | Is there a race in an official WotC book that has a +1 level adjustment that has a +4 or higher intelligence bonus. If so what is it and what book is it in. Your help is greatly appreciated. |
| pegasuspaladin03-05-07, 09:44 AM | Okay, so new question....Why does WotC hate on the int bonus? |
| wonlee7603-05-07, 10:25 AM | The closest way you might be able to pull this off is Grey Elf + Elf Paragon class. +2 Int from Grey Elf (0 LA race in MM), take a few levels of Wizard before jumping into Elf Paragon (3 level UA class that gives 2 levels worth of spellcasting progression) with the level 3 paragon ability of +2 Int I believe. Net result: 1 lost spellcasting level from paragon but +4 Int bonus. As to "hate" Int bonus? I think generally they dislike giving races high mental bonuses (Int, Wis, Cha) because spellcasting is versatile and powerful. Giving spellcasters easy or low LA boosts to a primary spellcasting stat is a much better long term investment for a primary caster than say a similar boost to the physical stats (Str, Dex, Con). |
| Melpomene03-05-07, 11:26 AM | Fraal from d20 Modern? |
| HomebrewedMonster03-05-07, 12:00 PM | Twinky Int race Background: I want a really high Int. Personality: Intelligence is really cool. Names: Intelligent sounding ones. Abilities: +4 Int Saves: +2 vs. Mind-effecting because we're smarter. LA: +1 |
| Melpomene03-05-07, 12:05 PM | Gray Elf with five levels of intellectual paragon gets +6 Int, three spellcasting levels, and some special abilities. |
| Thomar_of_Uointer03-05-07, 12:14 PM | Okay, so new question....Why does WotC hate on the int bonus? The problem doesn't lie with the races and ability scores, it's the classes' fault. Spellcasters derive so many of their abilities from a single ability score that it is overpowering for a race to have a mental ability bonus. |
| pegasuspaladin03-06-07, 09:36 AM | except that i can find +1 races with wisdom and charisma bonuses of +4, i can find plenty of strength, dexterity and constitution at 4, some even at a +6 and still be a LA 1, but not a single INT at +4 even with massive penalties. |

A similar method is to use a Human who takes a 1st-level Regional feat (from Faerun maybe? one of those campaign settings) to give them +2/-2 to stats, and then go Human Paragon. |
| lint trap03-06-07, 03:13 PM | Fraal from d20 Modern? Good catch. I had forgotten about those little fellas. |
| Huzzah!03-06-07, 07:02 PM | Template: Tragic Brilliance Despite being born with unnaturally developed intelligence, you have severe physical handicaps. Str: -6 Dex: -6 Con: -6 Int: +4 Wis: +4 Cha: +0 LA: +0 (I think Stephen Hawkins has this one.) |
| HammerSmashed03-06-07, 07:43 PM | except that i can find +1 races with wisdom and charisma bonuses of +4, i can find plenty of strength, dexterity and constitution at 4, some even at a +6 and still be a LA 1, but not a single INT at +4 even with massive penalties. What races or templates are theese??? |
| DwarfPcfan03-07-07, 10:13 AM | I second Fraal, they have no La and they get a -4 to strenght, -4 to constitution but a +4 to intelligence, wisdom and charisma as well they get psy-like abilities, 30ft speed, small size etc seriously if your Dm is willing to allow aliens in a game then Fraal telepath5/Wizard5/Cerebremencer10:D You can go all X-files horror on your oponents:plotting: :plotting: !!! |

(+2 wis +2 cha +1 LA) |
| Armoracia Rusticana03-07-07, 10:30 AM | Old Gray Elf? LA +0, core. |
| pegasuspaladin03-13-07, 10:49 AM | well one of the templates off the top of my head is Lolth-touched. Gives you dark vision as well as two +6 to physical attributes with no penalties and only a +1 LA. As far as using racial paragon lvl's it defeats the point of what i was trying to do. I was going for an ECL 2. Old grey elf is the best idea but it proves my point that after a month of being on the boards no one can find a +4 Int with only a +1. I don't include modern because it's not balanced with DnD. |
| ArcTan03-13-07, 03:11 PM | Good catch. I had forgotten about those little fellas. Of course, they allow this because d20 Modern doesn't have D&D's arcane spellcasting classes. The d20 Modern Mage is really egregiously nerfed compared to a D&D Wizard. |
| Huzzah!03-15-07, 01:52 AM | I took the idea and rolled up a Fraal telepath. Did you know they get +4 Int, Wis and Cha? The only thing that I haven't dominated (as the power) so far was a rakshasa sorceror! He's also fun to RP. With at-will mindlink, I can speak in whatever voice I want inside the other person's head. "This is the guy I'm interrogating? Right. <turns to the goblin prisoner> I AM THE GREAT AND DREAD ONE! YOU WILL TELL ME WHERE YOUR LEADER IS NOW!!!" (Of course, his hp is pretty sad.) |
| Qube03-15-07, 04:39 AM | Okay, so new question....Why does WotC hate on the int bonus? replay with the question: why do you want an LA+1 Int+4 race? shouldn't you choose a race for roleplay, not for stats? |
