I'm working on a character of a class that is of my own design, but based on the ranger.

Dex, Str, and Int are the most important stats. I am looking for a fun race. This is a secondary character, kind of just a minion to provide some interaction for my character(who really has no role in the parties current quest), so playability isn't necessary. I have my main human and he works just fine.

Any suggestions on a race that is just fun to play would be great.
I have played kobolds, humans and warforged in the past, so something other than those would be preferred. Thanks!

Hmmm, Elves might be a good bet. Dex bonus, no important stat being penalized, generally a high Int score.

Other than that, human would probably work best of the races I can think of.

Elves have generally a high int score?

So what the same as everyone else *except half orcs*??

What level are you guys at?

Any race can be fun really, so its a bit of a difficult ask.

Play a Catfolk? They are cool, good all round abilities.

I have a tiefling rogue/ranger NPC in my game. I cooked him up on the fly, 'cause the PCs wanted a guide for their quest. The captain of the guard picked him in the castle jails. He's the kind of bugger who knows everyone and generally despised by everyone, but everyone needs his help sooner or later; that's why he is still alive... And when I say everyone, I really mean it: pixies, goblins, kobolds, humans, elves, halflings, etc...

My main character is a human warlock/wizard/Eldritch Theurge at level 7 or 8. I forget.

but I want to create a level 1 character to basically follow my main character around and be his minion. I'm not stuck with level 1 since I still need to convince my gm to let me create the character. but I want to keep it at a low level. He's really just story fodder because my main character has nothing to do with the story, he just destroys stuff.

Wood elves will get you bonuses to Dex and Str, but at the cost of Con and Int.

Grey elves will get you bonuses to Dex and Int, but at the cost of Con and Str.

So, between the two (both LA +0) you have 2/3 of your stats covered, but there is a penalty on the 3rd.

Any suggestions on a race that is just fun to play would be great.

Goblin. These guys make great rogues, but I'm not sure how they'ed work with your rangerish class.

Forest gnome, not very strong but with a gnome hammer can do a pretty good deal of damage.Goblins are great riders, a little weak, but they can be of any tribe you like.Orcs are strong and just a little dumb.

Other than humans, dwarves are the best race for anything that doesn't require charisma.

Nezumi, from Oriental Adventures. The most fun I've had recently in a race/class combo was a Nezumi swordsage. 40 foot move speed means you're as mobile on the battlefield when Tumbling as many characters are moving normally. And being an inquisitive ratman minion of a mage should be fun.

Well depending on your list of books can determine your selection. Currently I am playing a Killoren (RotW). They can change the aspect of nature they manifest. It caught a couple of members of my current gaming group off guard by describing the change in appearance. Which over the course of the first session was all three aspects.
