| Tathel05-11-07, 06:06 PM | Title says it all, I want to play a large race (non-evil preferably) that doesn't have a level adjust. I couldn't think of any off the top of my head. I was thinking that the gaints in Arcane Evolved (monte cook rock!!) start medium but i think you can take a racial level and become large. that wouldn't be too bad. My basic character concept is a large paladin who is kind and tender hearted but at first glance people might think of him as intimedating because of his size. I have like the classic image of frankenstien's monster playing with a child who isn't afriad until her parents come and freak out. Since i'm a pally i'm hopeing no Cha minus but i'll take any suggestions Thanks! |

Or, if the DM agrees, use the stats for a Goliath or Half-Giant, but have them look like frankenstien, if you wish. Too bad you can't do an awakened Golem. Use the Flesh Golem. That would fit your idea to a "t". Aside from that, using an actual large creature would involve at least some level adjustments. I would prepose the Half-Ogre from Races of Destiny, but they get a negative to Cha and a LA of one or two. |

| Thief_of_Hope05-12-07, 03:02 PM | Actually, I think the Monte Cook race idea would be great if your DM will ok it. I always liked the racial levels (which is why I'm glad they adapted it for the paragon classes in UA). I don't have mine on me at the moment, so I can't recall how many of the racial levels you have to go into it before you achieve large size, but that does seem like a good one to go with. |
| JulesCARV05-12-07, 03:16 PM | Anthropomorphic baleen whale has no LA, but it does have 3 racial hit dice (monstrous humanoid). It's hideously broken, though. |
| Lucas Blackstone05-12-07, 04:14 PM | I'm not sure he meant that the race had to look like Frakenstein's monster as much as just a similarity in the scene of a large hulking figure playing with a child. This being obviously has a gentle side ( perhaps even good in the case of said paladin ), but then the situation changes as people people who judge solely by appearance show up. |

The only thing you can do is A) play with level adjustment a little, and find the race that best suits the role you want to play B) use Goliath or Half-giant for a low LA C) figure what you want out of large size. If you want reach, there are feats for it, not to mention weapons. If you want the bonuses for checks, just take goliath or half-giant. |

He said what he needed a large size for - for character reasons. As for question itself: I'm not familiar with a race like that, but you should talk to your DM. If, for instance, you would take a human, strip it of all special bonuses (feats and skill points) and make it large according to the MM (+8 str, -2 dex, +4 con, +2 natural armour, -1 AC/Attack) - I would say it is something like LA +1. Maybe your DM will agree to add some additional penalties and accept it with no LA. You could, for instance, take one or two character flaws from Unearthed Arcana. You don't need to worry about it being a race that general characters can play. You don't even need to say that all members of that race share your flaws. You can even say you're just a very very big human. |
| G_Mancer05-12-07, 09:41 PM | play a [insert large monster] by using the monster class minotaurs have a 8 lvl progression so that you can play from ECL 1. just do that but for your favorite large monster. ogres have a 6 lvl prgression... i think that's the lowest ECL (and therrefor progression) for a large creature. a lawful good large sized rhino race is in BoED |
| User512705-12-07, 09:54 PM | The frankenstienish monster was about 8-9 feet tall. goliath max height hits 8 feet. so you would tower over everything and be "effectively" large... as well, the half giant does start out as medium, but you can choose to "level" in your race and grow bigger as a result. I would go with Goliath though. Goliath is big and bulky and they have that competative feel to them. But they are very social creatures. almost like a gorilla. (imagine that gorilla with the pet kitty.) |
