12-26-07, 06:47 PM Can anybody point me toward one? Closest I can find is drow or aasimar and each is missing one of my desired bonuses.

in the expanded psionics handbook there is a template, phrenic or something it was, which gives +2 wis, +2 Int (if int 3 or higher), +4 cha, it gives power resistance 10 + HD, and several psionic powers as you advance levels.

the LA is +2 though, and I think you are going mage.

12-26-07, 07:09 PM Gray elves get a bonus to +2 Int. From there, you could try adding the Winged Template from Savage Species. It is a +1 or +2 LA I forget which. Adds a bonus to Wis and Dex. That is all I can think of right now

12-26-07, 07:15 PM Winged template adds +4 to dex, +2 to wis, gives a fly speed of (base land speed +20') and has an LA of +2 (If you get 17 dex though you'll have perfect manueverability (SP?)

so the grey elf would get
+6 dex, +2 wis, +2 int, -2 con, -2 str.

It's a good template, though it gives something that can be emulated with magic ever so easy, while still giving you 2 levels to make up for.

12-26-07, 07:40 PM I don't mind the LA to get the better save DCs on my spells. It looks like I am going to make a winged gray elf. That's sort of neat. I have to make the character by the end of tonight so lots of discussion is out.

12-26-07, 08:17 PM The flying aspect of the winged template is usually the least of my concerns. I like getting it, and I like the stat adjustments a lot, since I love Swordsages. Throw in LA buyoff, and you can break even pretty quick and get on with your life :D

12-26-07, 08:44 PM Yeah, I called my DM to get permission to use the template and get the specifics since it isn't a book I have. The flight is a nice bonus but the +2 int and +2 wis was key since I want to play as a theurge and I only have two 16s to work with. The LA isn't that bad since my DM allows buying back the LA as per Unearthed Arcana.

+2 LA, +2 to every stat except STR, found in the basic Monster Manual, also has some other nice things like Pipes (essentially lets you cast charm person, sleep or one other (cant remember) for free) along with some racial HD, BAB and Saves, and a +4 Natural armor, which is awesome if your a full caster

Yeah, winged gray elf has lots of cool factor to me. And I've wanted to try out mystic theurge since I first read the 3.5 DMG but I've never really gotten a good chance at it.

The +2 LA is not fun, that's for sure, but at least with the Unearthed Arcana rules on buying it back I'll catch up in the long run. I figure if I don't do any item crafting I should break even anyway. It'll just be hard those first few levels while I'm lagging behind the rest of the party and trying to juggle cloistered cleric and domain wizard levels at the same time.

My DM made a ruling against me today, anyway. Since we're a level 1 campaign and not starting at a higher level I have to start play effectively as a 0 level character and earn my way to 1st level. He'll count the xp I earn on my way to level 1 toward buying back my first LA at 6th. Pretty fair, I figure since I'm the only player with an LA race.

I figure I'll spend my early levels flying up 15 feet or so and plunking away with my bow, anyway. I ended up with a Dex of 21 so I should make a good archer while my levels sort themselves out and I gain actual usefulness.

I don't have OA with me at the moment, but I think the 3.0 Vanara had something like that... Dragon 318 nixed their ability modifiers, though.

wow, thank you for telling me that, I was using LA for the total ECL, I didnt realize racial HD adds to their racial HD...... well this makes a lot of creatures I liked before...

Charm person at will, Flight, and some other good Spell-like abilities, + a bonus vs enchantment :D

Of course I hate "butterfly wings" so I just ignore that part.

12-31-07, 06:52 AM Vanara from oriental advetures have +2 int and +2 wis and no la . They are 3.0 though and there is an update in a dragon magazin some where. We never use dragon, I dont know wich one it is.
