| The_One_Who_Walks04-01-07, 03:12 PM | ok, other than Lich and Vampire, are there any interesting sentient, independent (i.e., not/no longer spawn), copreal undead that a PC could realistically become by choice, during an ongoing campaign? Ideally not too powerful (both Lich and Vampire are FAR more powerful than I'm looking for), to aviod a big jump in ECL, as my DM wants to keep me more or less in line with the rest of the party the whole time. The character is a cleric, but leans just a bit more toward physical combat than your "typical" cleric... Anyway, any advice on the matter would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance! |

| calronmoonflower04-01-07, 03:18 PM | Corpse creature and skeleton creature from the Book of Vile Darkness should work. |
| The_One_Who_Walks04-01-07, 03:24 PM | hmm.... what is a Walker in the Waste exactly, and where might I find it? I looked at Necropolitans, but I'm not sure I want to give up that level, without getting a littlebit more in return, though I admit I haven't looked at them extensivly yet... |
| The_Shaman04-01-07, 03:55 PM | Crypt Spawn, Magic of Faerun. Dry lich is a very good option (yes, templates acquired through PrCs don't have LA), but it's limited to divine classes - and many of them have rather strong views against undead to begin with. |
| Crimson_Concerto04-01-07, 04:08 PM | I really have to recommend Necropolitans, because while you DO lose a level, it has no level adjustment, so you'll earn more experience, just like a lower-level character, and you'll soon be right on par with the group agian but with all the goodies of being undead. |
| obrysii04-01-07, 04:12 PM | hmm.... what is a Walker in the Waste exactly, and where might I find it? From Sandstorm. It's a PrC devoted to the Waste. It's pretty nice. |
| vardock04-01-07, 04:13 PM | I agree with the necropolitian. just use a thought bottle to offset the level loss, with that you only lose 500xp. |
| mtrpcic04-01-07, 04:35 PM | If you take Necropolitan for the LA +0 but Level -1 (Effectively making it a LA +1), you can add another acquired template found in Libris Mortis. I forget it's actual name, but it's something like "swarm monster" or something. Basically, you can turn your body into a swarm of a slew of things, including (but not limited to): spiders, rats, flies, body parts, sand, etc. It's a LA +0 and can be applied to any corporeal undead I believe. So that can make up for the level loss. Use that in conjunction with a Though Bottle to lose only 500 XP and you're set. PS: The sand swarm comes in very handy. You get a fly speed of 60 feet with perfect maneuverability. |
| Tetsubo04-01-07, 04:59 PM | There are the Eleti from Mythic Races. Though I think they have a +3 LA... |
| Corpsekin04-01-07, 10:03 PM | mumified creature(libris mortis) has a LA of +5 but its good for a fighter type, personly id go for the lich tho. |
| Crimson_Concerto04-02-07, 12:43 AM | If you take Necropolitan for the LA +0 but Level -1 (Effectively making it a LA +1)Actually, losing a level is nothing like having a +1 LA. With a +1 LA, you always stay a level below the party, but with a level loss, you'll be gaining more XP than the rest of the party, and so you will undoubtably soon catch up to their same level. It's definitely not effectively an LA +1. I forget it's actual name, but it's something like "swarm monster" or something. Basically, you can turn your body into a swarm of a slew of things, including (but not limited to): spiders, rats, flies, body parts, sand, etc. It's a LA +0 and can be applied to any corporeal undead I believe.Actually, the awarm creature has no LA, and by no LA, I don't mean an LA of +0, I mean no LA. In other words, the template is not playable, and PCs cannot select it. |
| Threefists04-03-07, 09:59 AM | At the risk of sounding like a broken record, if you have access to Dragon 313, it has 5 'dead' races, 4 Half-Undead Templates and a 'Death-Touched' race similar to the Aisamar and the Tiefling. If you don't have access to this, PM me and I'll speed the details of them to you. |
