| mithos_taralom09-03-07, 03:39 AM | Hi all, firstly I am looking for 2 things. 1. A link to any existing guides on creating a race (I recall someone having made a good system for this before) 2. Is there an existing Race someone has made before similar to this? The Race I am trying to recreate is the Kroot from the Wargame Warhammer 40,000. So any help in finding an existing race to work from or any guides on creating one is much obliged. Thanks in advance. -Mithos |

Well, remember: by eating stuff they take on biological traits of them. This could be a starting point for your concept. They are also strong and nimble, but slight in build and alien in mindset. Maybe +2 Str, +2 Dex, -2 Con, -2 Cha? |

Some people on the boards have put together point-based systems, but I find them lacking. I'd recommend using the acid test, making a level 1 character of your race and then comparing it to a level 1 human, then increasing the human's level until he's on par with your race (then using the difference in level as the level adjustment). |
| Fireclave09-04-07, 03:22 AM | Hands down, the best tool for creating a new race is to compare it to existing races. The second best tool, imho, is to lurk on the races boards and see how other people's races are discuss. It's a great way to get a good idea of what is considered balanced, what's not, and why. YabaTheWhat has a pretty good system for estimating the power of a race. |
