| Ender578905-01-07, 05:16 PM | I'm looking for a race with a plus to int, no con minus, and no racial hit die or level adjustment. I don't care about other minuses but that minus to con is killing me. |
| Longstrider2305-01-07, 06:08 PM | Question: do you care about LAs? |
| TacoClone05-01-07, 06:17 PM | He said no racial hit dice or level adjustments... And, I don't know of any that don't have a minus to constitution. What do you need the race for? |
| stargate52505-01-07, 06:18 PM | Question: do you care about LAs? Answered already. Gray Elf has a negative to strength, no con penalty, and no LA. It seems to be what you're looking for. |
| Suden05-01-07, 07:30 PM | The Grey Elf has a con penalty. The Elven racial adjustments in the MM are in addition to the +2 dex and -2 con of the High Elf. Only the Aquatic and Wild Elves (of the Elves in the MM) have different adjustments and avoid the con loss. One possibility might depend on your DM. The Snow Elf from Frostburn is +2 dex, -2 cha. The Grey Elf is a High Elf with an additional +2 int and a -2 str. If you could convince your DM to allow a Snowy Grey Elf you might be able to pull it off. |
| Ender578905-01-07, 08:06 PM | I had thought of the grey elf, but it has the high elf traits as was stated by Suden. I like the idea of playing a "Snowy Grey Elf," which I think I could get my DM to let me do. Oh, and I was looking for this for a 1st level psion. |
| lord_xarallon05-02-07, 03:40 AM | Imaskari has +2 int, -2 dex, They are better as wizards, but will do fine as psions IMO. They are found here (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ex/20031003b) |
| D-Dus05-02-07, 04:00 AM | I still find it amazing how many times this question is asked. Does everyone play a wizard? :P But to answer the question: A good option would be to play a Dragonborn Grey Elf. The Dragonborn template (from Races of the Dragon) gives a +2 Con and -2 Dex in addition to the base races ability modifiers. Therefore, it would effectively give you a race with -2 Str and +2 Int (the +2 Dex, -2 Con of the elf would be negated by the -2 Dex, +2 Con of the Dragonborn) |
| Mr_Teapot05-02-07, 03:51 PM | There's also the Lesser Tiefling: +2 Dex, +2 Int, -2 Cha. Lesser Tieflings are LA 0, because they lose Outsider type. |

| BugHunter05-02-07, 08:07 PM | The lesser air genasi +2dex, +2 int, -2 wis, -2cha. Or the lesser fire genasi +2 int, -2 cha. The catch with the lesser planetouched they can be affected by charm person and banishment see Player's Guide to Faerun page 191. Talk to you dm about using the variant rule list on page 190 of Player's Guide to Faerun. |
| AMGriffin05-02-07, 08:24 PM | I got one better The Arcane Gnome. +2 Constitution, +2 Intelligence, -2 Wisdom, -2 Strength |
| Chimaera200005-03-07, 12:29 AM | That idea for a dragonborn grey elf is pretty solid. In addition to their ability adjustments, any of the dragonborn traits are more useful than the elf's special abilities. After all, which wizard wouldn't want to be able to fly all day without a winged cloak or have all sorts of sense-based bonuses (depending on specialization)? Of course, a dragonborn kobold with the Dragonwrought feat really takes the cake. Their base stats are -4 Str, +3 Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma at LA +0. I'm imaging your reactions to this are one of the following: 1) "Holy crap!" HOW?!? 2) "Yes! The answer to my prayers!" 3) (The min-maxers smile and nod knowingly) This happens because a Dragonwrought kobold receives no penalties for aging, but receives all of the bonuses. Therefore, you just create your character as Venerable to gain the +3 to all mental stats. Go crazy with arguably the best spellcaster race ever written! A DM is perfectly within their rights to disallow this cheese, of course. :) |
| AZNsupermarket05-03-07, 11:16 PM | Here are all your choices from WOTC published material for +0 LA races that get a bonus to intelligence: Gray Elf: -2 Str +2 Dex -2 Con +2 Int, medium, 30 ft., wizard, humanoid (elf), monster manual pg.104 Sun Elf: +2 Int -2 Con, medium, 30 ft., wizard, humanoid (elf), forgotten realms pg.15 Silvanesti: +2 Dex +2 Int -2 Con -2 Cha, medium, 30 ft., humanoid (elf), dragonlance campaign setting pg.20 Fire Elf: +2 Dex +2 Int -2 Con -2 Cha, medium, 30 ft., wizard, humanoid (elf), unearthed arcana pg.17 Deep Imaskari: +2 Int -2 Dex, medium, 30 ft., spell clutch (su), wizard, humanoid (human), underdark pg.9 Tinker Gnome: +2 Dex +2 Int -2 Str -2 Wis, small, 20 ft., special, dragonlance campaign setting pg.27 Lesser Air Genasi: +2 Dex +2 Int -2 Wis -2 Cha, medium, 30 ft., levitate (sp), fighter, humanoid (planetouched), player’s guide to faerun pg.191 Lesser Fire Genasi: +2 Int -2 Cha, medium, 30 ft., control flames (sp), fighter, humanoid (planetouched), player’s guide to faerun pg.191 Lesser Tiefling: +2 Int +2 Dex -2 Cha, medium, 30 ft., darkness (sp), rogue, humanoid (planetouched), player’s guide to faerun pg.191 Vanara: -2 Str +2 Int +2 Wis, medium, 30 ft. climb 20 ft., spirit shaman, humanoid (vanara), oriental adventures pg.15 – Note:[/U] in a 3.5 oriental adventures update found in Dragon magazine, vanara were update to no longer have any ability score adjustments. Venerable Dragonwrought Kobold: -4 Str +2 Dex -2 Con +3 Int +3 Wis +3 Cha, small, 30 ft., sorcerer, humanoid (kobold, reptilian, dragonblood), monter manual pg.161 and races of the dragon pg. 39 You can also add the Dragonborn of Bahamut pseudo-template without level adjustment to any of the races with a bonus to int (beside the venerable dragonwrought kobold) and gain +2 con -2 dex, which stacks with your original ability adjustments. That may be helpful for a lot of these (especially for races like fire elves and gray elves). Dragonborn: +2 Con -2 Dex, same as base creature, same as base creature, fighter and the base creatures, humanoid (dragonblood, same as base creature), races of the dragon pg.5 Other than that, you can just increase your age level and suffer the physical ability score penalties. |
