I'm looking for a race with an Int penalty (but no charisma penalty). It needs to be humanoid (or at the very least no anthropomorphic animals). I playing an Int 3 Sorcerer so the higher the Int penalty the better.

I think one of the elf varieties in Monster Manual 1 has an INT penatly. I think it's either the wild elf or the wood elf.

Both :). Wild elves have +2 dex, -2 int, and wood elves have +2 str, +2 dex, -2 con, and -2 int. Wild elves also have favored class: sorcerer.

put your lowest stat into int, playing elf with int penalty.

lets say your doing PB and you choose to keep it an 8. this drops it to 6. now take the flaw in unearthed arcana giving -2 to a stat for a total of 4.

closest i can think of.

He did specify that he does NOT want a CHA penalty.

Hmm, does the feral template have a CHA penalty?

IIRC it does not.

Also, it is LA+1 (or LA+2 by many people's reckoning).

Why? You are barely more intelligent than your common house cat. Your entire thought process is going to be based on survival instincts with little regard for your surroundings or friends. You likely will be unable to talk or communicate in anything but grunts and hand signals.

That's why he's going to be a sorcerer. The familiar will be doing all the talking for the both of them (what the familiar starting with a int of 6 and going up from there).

I assume the familiar will be doing the spell calculations on area, points of origin, etc.? I wouldn't trust a 3 INT sorcerer to cast a fireball or any other AE spell and possibly not any single target spells either :) Guess it could be an interesting character, just not one I could envision making a contribution.

You sound like you're mixing low intelligence with low wisdom.

If his wisdom is pretty high then a low intelligence isn't going to cause much trouble.

I had an ogre with 18 Wisdom and 3 Intelligence...good times.

Nope. That sounds like the traits of low intelligence to me. A low wisdom would be a tendency to bump into easily overlooked objects like houses, easily distracted, and an inability to concentra. . . Ooh. Shiny.

Quite frankly, I wouldn't want someone with an ability of 3 in either ability throwing spells around. One is going to be unable to think tactically or dertermine whether to use a lightning bolt or magic missile. The other is likely to start throwing fireballs into the middle of combat, or take a couple of rounds to work out that there is a fight happening.

I'd like to think that the OP is doing it for an RP challenge with an interesting character.
However he appears to simply want to get the greatest advantage possible by exploiting the "No stat below three" rule.

IIRC painted elves (from Sandstorm) are also +2 DEX, -2 INT but I don't have that to hand.

Actually a little of both. I'm doing it for the RP since it seemed like an interesting concept for a sorcerer (essentially he's a mobile weapon's platform for what will start out as a raven). Since race was kind of a non-factor I wanted to see what races would complement the build. In the end I think I'm going human (I get 2 skills points so I can go into a few PRCs) and get an extra feat (I typically go human which is why I was curious about what other races would bring to the concept).

BTW, thanks all for the suggestions. I may still take one of the elves just for having so a low Int elf (no one would even suspect it).
