| Devigod12-16-07, 01:18 PM | Is there ever a monster race that you wish was more playable? Lower ECL and/or less hit dice with slightly toned down powers that will allow you to have more class levels? Well now you can. (*Smacks face*) That sounded like an advertisement. Anyways, I made a Minotaur that is a little less in abilities than it's cousin in the Monster Manual, but is still pretty strong and... is a minotaur. It's playable at 5th level as just a minotaur, or at 6th level with it's first class level. Here it is: Labynthian Minotaur Labynthian Minotaur are strong, tough and cunning 'bull men'. They are quite unlike their cousins, whom they call the "savage minotaur" Labynthian Minotaur are quite civilized and are slightly smaller. They thrive in titanic minotaur built cities made of bronze and stone. Personality: Minotaur are careful never to offend anyone they do not know. They prefer to stay out of someone's way than to start a fight, (even though they are well prepared for one.) They expect the worst, and prepare for it. When they are able to make lasting friendships, they are lax among friends, and easily amused. Gently, they like to have a chuckle, but are sometimes slow to make jokes themselves. For the most part, minotaur keep a stoic and solemn demeanor in combat, they never give any hints toward weakness, and, if surprised, try to suppress any frustration. Physical Description: Labynthian minotaur are also known as bull men, with the shape and stature of a man, and the fur, head and horns of a bull. They stand over 7 feet tall, and weigh between 400 and 500 pounds. Men are slightly taller and heavier than women, they prefer simple, practical clothing. Relations: Labynthian Minotaur make it a point not to associate themselves with any savage races, some few live the lives of outcast barbarians, sometimes joining other barbaric tribes. Some may refer to them as crude, but many minotaur sages are indeed wise and respected. They prize trading with other peoples and regard smaller peoples as equals always. Alignment: Unlike their cousins, the savage minotaur, Labynthian minotaur live a civilized life, in large cities and as such; most are lawful and neutral in alignment. There are an equal amount of good and evil ones, and most are nuetral. Those that would prefer the chaotic life are by no means unheard of, however. Minotaur Lands: Minotaur lands stretch from vast canyons, to high mountains. They build high-walled citadels of iron, brass and bronze. From these cities, they live, trade, train and war with more barbaric locals. These massive cities are built strong, and fortified for siege. They mine many minerals and craft weapons which are prized highly by other races. Religion: Labynthian minotaur revere Thasos, their god, the first minotaur. He is a wise, yet valiant deity, who promotes self righteousness, aid for the week, and battle against evil. Some barbaric minotaur worship Gruumsh or Kord. Language: Minotaur speak a rough language with oral tradition. It has various intones that can indicate great emotion and consists of simple grammar. The runic alphabet of this writing is ancient and some minotaur scholars still find old characters now and then that have been forgotten. Names: Labynthian minotaur carry a Clan name and a surname, many are proud of their clan name and can trace their ancestry back hundreds of years. Their surname is usually inherited from a great ancestor, or is a variation of a relative's name. Many minotaur gain names based on great deeds they have accomplished, indeed, sometimes minotaur pass on a name gained as a clan name, in honor of these great deeds. Male Names: Atmos, Cadmos, Grall, Hayd, Mardos, Minos, Peros, Sediem, Terr. Female Names: Atma, Benessa, Feydem, Mina, Moore, Pera, Soph, Terressa, Xavi Clan Names: Thickhoof, Greathorn, Gildhide, Justaxe, Giantkiller, Lichblight Adventurers: Many minotaur adventure to achieve great deeds, so they will be remembered, at the same time, they honor their ancestors and clan members by spreading their great name. A great many also adventure on crusades and holy quests, spreading word of their great deity or destroying evil where it can be found. Some travel as mercenaries, taking on any job that pays well. — +6 Strength, +4 Constitution, -2 Intelligence: Minotaur are strong, sturdy and tough and, while cunning, are slightly dull. — Medium size — A Minotaur's base land speed is 30 feet. — Darkvision out to 60 feet — Racial Hit Dice: A labynthian minotaur begins with three levels of monstrous humanoid, which provide 3d8 Hit Dice, a base attack bonus of +3, and base saving throws of Fort +1, Ref +3, and Will +3. — Racial Skills: A minotaur's monstrous humanoid levels give it skill points equal to 6 x (2 + Int modifier, minimum 1). This gives them immunity to maze spells, prevents them from becoming lost and enables them to track their enemies by their scent. — Scent (Ex): A labynthian minotaur has a keen sense of smell. It can detect opponents within 20 feet (double range if the scent is upwind, one-half range if it is downwind) and may take a move action to determine the direction of the scent. If an odor source, such as an opponent, is within 5 feet, the minotaur can pinpoint that source. Minotaur can use the scent ability to track an enemy by smell. — Powerful Build: The physical stature of labynthian minotaur let them function in many ways as if they were one size category larger. Whenever a minotaur is subject to a size modifier or special size modifier an opposed check (such as grapple checks, bull rush attempts and trip attempts), the minotaur is treated as one size larger if doing so is advantageous to him. A minotaur is also considered to be one size larger when determining whether a creature's special attacks based on size (such as improved grab or swallow whole) can affect him. A minotaur can use weapons designed for a creature one size larger without penalty. However, his space and reach remain those of a creature of his actual size. The benefits of this racial trait stack with the effects of powers, abilities, and spells that change the subject's size category. — Automatic Languages: Common and Minoan. Bonus languages: Draconic, Dwarven, Giant, Goblin, and Orc. Smart minotaur are familiar with the ancient language, and with the languages of their allies and brutish foes. — Favored Class: Fighter. A multiclass minotaur's fighter class does not count when determining whether he takes an experience penalty for multiclassing. — Level Adjustment +2Coming soon: Minoan longaxe and minoan buckler, I had stats for these typed up somewhere, when I locate them, I'll post them. Also a picture, as soon as I figure out how to code that. In the meantime, any comments, critiscism or ideas would be great. |
