New player wants to play a "Fallen Angel." Kinda juvenille (to be expected, player is 15), but the DM is accommodating. I could let them come up with in on their own, but methinks the result would be...messy.

So I'm cooking up a base race for him. Basically an angel or archon somewhere either screwed up or succeeded spectacularly. They were rewarded/punished with reincarnation on the material plane in the body of a human with *slight* modifications. Something simple. Raptoran flying with a human bonus feat, type humanoid (extraplanar, native), nothing fancy. Looks ok for a +0 base race, but I think it needs some sort of drawback, but nothing too serious.

How about something like this:

Banished Soul(Ex): Fallen Angels are hurt by both Holy and Unholy Weapons regardless of Alignment.

Of course, you can change the name and everything, it's just an idea.

That'll work. Just have to put some text in to clarify that it's only when they're being stuck by those weapons, not when they're using them. The guy still oughta be able to use a holy longsword without penalty.

Oh yer, I wasn't really that clear when I put it, good luck to you with the Fallen Angels.

Another weakness, though it depends on what the player is playing is limiting them from taking Paladin, Cleric and Favoured Soul(of Good Gods only if you wish). You(or the player) could also make a Prestige Class a long the lines of a Redeeming Angel.

If he's following a Demon or Devil just turn his powers around make the holy versions an unholy version. Just because you are doing something different doesn't mean you need to be punished for it, but If he's not following a Demon or Devil than take his spell like abilities and protective aura away.

If he's a role player type than turn him human, and tempt him into finding a Divine aura to reestablish his powers under no Holy or Unholy control so he could be his own angel. Such as an Ur-Priest I have a fallen angel who was turned human as punishment, and he's trying to become an angel again.

If you are going to do this I hope you are going to give him an LA break for adding a weakness

It really depends on how often each is used, for instance if the party is good, most enemies won't have holy weapons now will they? and I presume there's no PvP so it shouldn't really be that much of an issue; the player will only be effected by the property that would effect them anywho.

Plus it means if he really wants to, he can add an extra bonus; it will not be necessary to too however.

You I forgot to ask is he evil or good fallen angel. Good fallen angel is kind of hard for me to imagine, because why would a good aligned angel become a fallen? What could he of done that was so bad?

Previous existence, good. As in his soul came from the upper planes.

Been thinking, and I came up with a different weakness. What do you think of this:

Call of the Planes: The planes yearn for the return of their wayward son and are loathe to relinquish their hold once they have him. Upon the death of a Fallen Angel, the planes hold to their souls much more tightly than those of others. Mortal magic to restore life to a dead Angel must succeed on a caster level check (DC 10 plus the angel's ECL) or the magic fails. This does not prevent further attempts to raise the character. The character can still choose not to be resurrected as normal.

Not as much impact in mid-comabt, but more important out of combat (and at higher levels).

Figured flight plus a bonus feat needed *something* to counterbalance. Am I wrong?

If it's based off Raptoran Flight and a simple Feat then it's probably balanced, or high LA 0.

It's a good weakness, but you may want to make the check (DC 10 + HD) for simplicities sake. Also it seems a bit strange of a weakness as Normal Angels can't be resurrected short of a wish or miracle IIRC, It's perfectly fine if you don't want to penalize the player but you may need to thing of an in game reason for this.
