| Maldroc_the_Mad04-03-07, 10:32 PM | Hey Guys, I want to know if its possible to make a normal human better. Like apply a template to him/her or make it a half-something. Any ideas? |
| Barloch04-03-07, 10:35 PM | Can't go wrong with half dragon template, nothing but ups there. |
| bobothechimp04-03-07, 10:40 PM | What's wrong with the humans as they are now? |
| calronmoonflower04-03-07, 10:40 PM | The draconic template is pretty good. It's only +1 LA and gives you allot of bonuses. If you like psionic try an empty vessel from Eberron Campaign Setting. |
| Needle04-04-07, 03:57 AM | Eh? Humans are the best standard PhB race already. |
| Quade04-04-07, 01:12 PM | Eh? Humans are the best standard PhB race already. Agreed, the extra feat is killer... |
| magenificent04-04-07, 01:26 PM | Humans are the best standard PhB race already.Agreed, the extra feat is killer... Thirded. Humans own. If you want more, the Human Paragon racial class from UA is awesome. Check it out here (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/races/racialParagonClasses.htm). |
| AMGriffin04-04-07, 01:41 PM | Humans are perfectly balanced. If you wanna see underpowered take a look at half-orcs and especially half-elves. |
| Ebonyte04-04-07, 03:35 PM | Plus, throw that half-template onto a human, and you've got something special with real flavor. If you want to avoid a full-on half-something, try the Bloodlines from Unearthed Arcana. I have lots of fun with those. |
| starfire31104-04-07, 04:04 PM | What's wrong with the humans as they are now? I am always flip-flopping on what I think are better humans or dwarves, it generaly comes down to what kind of character I am playing, remember dwarves get a nice racial feat essentially with EWP dwarven waraxe. |
| Khadmus04-07-07, 08:04 AM | Imperial Human: 2 racial bonus feats. No racial skill bonus. Apply random stat penalties if you feel it needs to be balanced. |
| Fencerboy04-07-07, 10:56 AM | Imperial Human needs serious balance man. if you want to see lame, look at a half elf. |
| Toran_A_Sunder04-07-07, 11:11 AM | Humans pwn the other +0 races. 75% of the characters I play are human cus of both the bonuses they get and the flexibility in role playing them. So don't think a human needs to be made "better." It doesn't. However, if you want to add more flavor, templates are an awesome choice. I suggest the following: Half-dragon ~ And if you go this route, look in the Draconomicon for dragon heritage options other than the standard chromatic or metallic dragons. Half-Celestial ~ Get awesome abilities and a ton of fun to play. The LA is kind of high but if you can swig it, it's awesome Half-Fey ~ Great for bards or rogues or sorcerers. Anything charisma/enchantment based Fun to role play as well You can find more choices here. Happy gaming! http://crystalkeep.com/d20/index.php |
| Masterfulks04-07-07, 11:23 AM | Imperial Human needs serious balance man. if you want to see lame, look at a half elf. Which book are imperial humans in? |
| JulesCARV04-07-07, 12:56 PM | Phrenic (XPH) is a nice template :). |
| Zuractai04-07-07, 01:04 PM | Racial Traits * Imperials gain one extra skill point every level in Diplomacy or Sense Motive. * Imperials gain the feat Skill Focus. * Once per day Imperials can cast command at their character level. Not sure if these are in adition or instead of the normal human traits. Would be good if you wanted to play a class that didn't have Diplomacy or Sense motive as a class skill and still wanted them |
| T_K04-07-07, 01:05 PM | Die, get embalmed and become a mummy? The rules in Libris Mortis let you make an excellent melee combatant+spellcaster. But seriously speaking, the reason people pick the class is for multiclassing, skills and the extra feat. Besides the Paragon class, I can't think of an option that would give you an even greater edge in these areas. The point in playing a human is that you can be both versatile and specialised. And humans aren't subject to burning racial hatred from NPCs that often, which is more than you can say for elves, dwarves or orcs... |
| T_K04-07-07, 01:08 PM | Would be good if you wanted to play a class that didn't have Diplomacy or Sense motive as a class skill and still wanted them Like a noble warrior type? D&D fighters don't really give you the option to be a dashing warrior-prince, but those rules present a great option to play one. |
| Khadmus04-07-07, 01:14 PM | "needs serious balance". Serious balance=serious ability lows. I just stated it poorly as "some random ability penalties". |
| T_K04-07-07, 01:16 PM | "needs serious balance". Serious balance=serious ability lows. I just stated it poorly as "some random ability penalties". The problem is, what exactly would they be bad at? I can't think of any ability that would fit... Just give them LA and be done with it, IMO. |
| snakebliskan04-07-07, 01:20 PM | Humans are the best core race bar none!... now if you feel like making a race better the try half elves and half orcs... which in my world get the best of both worlds..... they rock! |
| Khadmus04-07-07, 01:22 PM | I apologize T_K...for some odd reason I thought we were talking only LA +0 races here. Momentary slip of mine. I didn't give it much thought though...so meh. |
| T_K04-07-07, 03:51 PM | I do see your point, Khadmus. I'm one of the people who never pick a race with LA, so I'd try to balance it in other ways too. In this case, though, I don't see any other way to go about it. |
| Khadmus04-07-07, 05:52 PM | If there's a race with LA that I want, I usually try to argue the UA level adjustment pay-off rules into effect. On human subraces, the Artisans. 10 skill points at first level, 2.5 skill points at subsequent levels. No bonus feat. As little thought given to balance as went into the Imperial human. |
| ruski204-08-07, 11:37 PM | Thirded. Humans own. If you want more, the Human Paragon racial class from UA is awesome. Check it out here (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/races/racialParagonClasses.htm). i will have to disagree ,i like exta feats as much as the next person but the skill bonus dosn't cut it i mean if want an exta feat just play an strongheart halfling (from forgotten realm) it gives you an exta feat and all the halfling bonus (except the +1 to all saves) |
| Perseus_Stoned04-08-07, 11:47 PM | Hey Guys, I want to know if its possible to make a normal human better. Like apply a template to him/her or make it a half-something. Any ideas? I find adding both of these templates onto a human can make him *almost* as good as those rascally dwarves. http://www.d20srd.org/srd/epic/monsters/pseudonaturalTroll.htm http://www.d20srd.org/srd/epic/monsters/paragonCreature.htm Only about a +25 CR rating too! |
