| Scalamander08-06-07, 11:17 AM | Tiste Andii Racial Traits: The Tiste Andii are taller than humans, though of similar proportions. Their skin is black with slanted, epicanthic, almond-shaped eyes that change color with their moods. Hair is silver, white or black, and generally kept long. The Tiste Andii are extremely long-lived (Anomander Rake is at least 300,000 years old), and cease aging once they reach adulthood. Barring accidents or violent death, they may live forever. They are prone to melancholy and apathy as a race and breed very slowly. The Tiste Andii are close kin to the Tiste Edur and Tiste Liosan, though they do not share genetic descent. Tiste Andii characters have the following racial traits: - +6 to Dexterity, +2 to Intelligence and -2 to Charisma - Outsider: The Tiste Andii originate from the Kurald Galain warren of Darkness and are thus not natural inhabitants of the mortal world - Medium Size - A Tiste Andii’s base speed is 30ft. - Low-Light Vision (Ex): Tiste Andii can see twice as far as humans in moonlight, starlight, torchlight and other similar conditions. They retain the ability to distinguish colour and detail in these circumstances. - Darkvision out to 60ft. - Racial Warren: The Tiste Andii have access to the Kurald Galain elder warren of Darkness which is not accessible to human and other mortal characters. They gain abilities from this warren dependant on the Racial Warren Level Progression table. - Favoured Class: Rouge Tiste Edur Racial Traits: The Tiste Edur are taller than humans, though of similar proportions. Their skin is a dull grey colour of a hue not found in humans, with slanted, epicanthic, almond-shaped eyes. Hair ranges from dark red to dark brown, and greys with age. The Tiste Edur are close kin to the Tiste Liosan and Tiste Andii, though they do not share genetic descent. The Edur are extremely long-lived, but unlike the Andii and Liosan are not immortal. Female Edur mature more quickly than males. - +4 Strength, +4 Dexterity, -2 Wisdom - Outsider: The Tiste Edur are invaders to the mortal world from the Shattered Warren of Kurald Emurlahn and are thus not natural inhabitants. - Medium Size - A Tiste Edur’s base speed is 30ft. - Improved Low-Light Vision (Ex): A Tiste Edur can see four times as far as a human in moonlight, starlight, torchlight and other similar conditions. They retain the ability to distinguish colour and detail in these circumstances. - Children Of Shadow (Ex): A Tiste Edur gains a +2 to Hide and Move Silently checks when operating within shadows. They cannot use their own shadow for this purpose. - Racial Warren: The Tiste Edur have access to Kurald Emurlahn, the Shattered Warren of Shadow which is not normally accessible to human and other mortal characters. They gain abilities from this warren dependant on the Racial Warren Level Progression table. - Favoured Class: Fighter Tiste Liosan Racial Traits: The Tiste Liosan are not one of the four founding races and only have contact with the mortal world in situations where outsiders have breached the barriers surrounding their Warren of Kurald Thyrllan. The Tiste Liosan are taller than humans, though of similar proportions. Their skin is pure white, with slanted, epicanthic, almond-shaped eyes. Hair is silver or gold and generally kept long. The Tiste Liosan are close kin to the Tiste Edur and Tiste Andii, though they do not share genetic descent. Internal anatomy differs from the human norm; specifically, the heart known to be buried deeper in the torso. - +2 Strength, +2 Dexterity, +2 Charisma - Outsider: The Tiste Liosan do not usually venture outside their warren home of Kurald Thyrllan and are not natural inhabitants of the mortal world. - A Tiste Liosan base speed is 30ft. - Martial Training (Ex): Regardless of the actual class chosen by a Tiste Liosan, they possess they have proficiency in all armour and shields, except tower shields and one martial weapon of their choice. - Buried Heart (Ex): Due to the placement of their heart and the way their bodies shield their vital organs, a Tiste Liosan is only killed when his negative hit points equal his Constitution score or 10, whichever is more. - Racial Warren: The Tiste Liosan have access to Kurald Thyrllan, the Warren of Light which is not normally accessible to human and other mortal characters. They gain abilities from this warren dependant on the Racial Warren Level Progression table. - Favoured Class: Cleric These guys are basically as close as the Malazan world comes to having elves. In this case the elves aren't short, pointy eared nature freaks and mostly just think of the human races as slaves, children and cannon fodder. I haven't figured out what LA they should deserve, largely because I am still working up the powers their respective warrens give them. I am leaning towards a higher LA, something around +4 to +6, which is offset by the fact that if you intend to adventure in this setting you will probably be epic anyway. Malazan fans, give me your input. Share your thoughts. |
| Scalamander08-06-07, 12:19 PM | Jaghut Racial Traits: The Jaghut are taller and broader than humans, with tusked lower jaws. Their skin is grey-green and hair is generally grey. The Jaghut are extremely long-lived (essentially immortal in the sense that they will not die except through violence or accident), and capable of inter-breeding with humans to create living offspring. Whether the offspring are viable as well, or sterile like a mule is unknown. They are adapted to living in a cold climate, and generally prefer an Arctic environment. The Jaghut use the Omtose Phellack Warren, an Elder racial Warren that allows them control over great areas and is generally tuned towards magics of ice and cold, though they are also capable of using other Warrens. The Jaghut do not gather in locations or create communities. Instead, they prefer solitary towers as dwellings, usually living with only their closest family. Despite this tendency towards isolation, their parental instincts are very strong, which has resulted in a scaling up of conflicts with the T'lan Imass - if a parent is attacked, their children and spouse will come to fight with them, and vice versa. This can result in considerable devastation due to the scales of sorceries involved. - +4 Strength, +6 Constitution, +4 Wisdom, -4 Charisma: Jaghut are incredibly strong and resilient and live long lives enabling them to experience a lot of the world. However a racial tendency towards solitary wandering and depression makes them poor companions. - Large: As a large creature Jaghut gain special bonuses and penalties to AC and attack. See PHB for details. - Monstrous Humanoid: As monstrous humanoids, Jaghut are proficient will all simple weapons, but no armour or shields. - A Jaghut’s base speed is 40ft. - Cold Immunity (Ex): Due to their racial warren and preference for living in Arctic climes, Jaghut are immune to cold and all effects associated with cold weather. - Keen Sight (Ex): Jaghut have extraordinary eyesight and can see 8 times as far as a human in normal conditions. They also gain low-light vision and can see 4 times farther then a human in moonlight, starlight and torchlight. They are still able to discern colour and detail under these circumstances. Lastly they have Darkvision out to 90ft. - Natural Weapons (Ex): Due to their large build and strength Jaghut possess 3 natural attacks; 2 Slams and a Gore attack from their tusks. - Solitary (Ex): Due to their bloody history and fear of raising a Jaghut Tyrant, Jaghut tend to live alone and do not associate with others of their race. They take a -2 penalty on all Diplomacy, Gather Information and Intimidate skills made against other Jaghut and Jhag. - Racial Warren (Su): The Jaghut have access to Omtose Phellack, the Warren of Ice which is not normally accessible to human and other mortal characters. They gain abilities from this warren dependant on the Racial Warren Level Progression table. - Favoured Class: Wizard Jhag (Jaghut Half-Breed) Racial Traits: The Jhag are descended from full blooded Jaghut parents who mated with a humanoid race back in antiquity. Some scholars attribute the other parent to have been Toblakai, Trell or even Human. Jhags are not as tall or physically well built as their Jaghut parents but retain the grey-green skin and grey hair. Most can live for hundreds of years but do not gain the practical immortality of a full-blooded Jaghut unless they gain mastery over the Omtose Phellack Warren. While not being as isolationist and solitary as Jaghut, many Jhag are given to wanderings and long introspections which make them somewhat taciturn companions. - +2 Strength, +4 Constitution, -2 Charisma: Jhags are not as strong and resilient as their Jaghut parents and still retain some trace of their solitary lifestyles. - Medium: As medium creatures Jhags gain no special bonuses or penalties due to size. But see powerful build ability. - A Jhags base speed is 30ft. - Cold Resistance (Ex): Jhags gain some of their parents resistance to cold in the form of cold resistance 20. They also gain a +4 to Constitution to avoid the effects of cold climates and temperatures. - Low-Light Vision (Ex): Jhags can see 4 times as far as a human in lowlight conditions. They retain the ability to discern detail and colour under these conditions - Darkvision (Ex): Their keen eyes allow Jhag to see for 60ft. in darkness. This vision is limited to black and white only. - Natural Weapons (Ex): While their tusks are less pronounced then full-blooded Jaghut, Jhags can still use their strength to make 2 slam attacks. - Powerful Build (Ex): The physical stature of a Jhag is such that it allows him to function as if he was one size larger in many cases. Whenever a Jhag is treated a size modifier or special size modifier for an opposed check he functions as if he was one size larger if that would advantageous to him. A Jhag is also considered to be one size larger when determining the effects of some creatures special attacks. He can also used weapons designed for a creature one size larger then him without penalty. However his space and reach remains the same as that of a medium creature. This ability stacks with spells and effects that alter size. - Racial Warren (Su): A Jhag can access the Jaghut racial warren of Omtose Phellack although it is more difficult for them to do so. - Favoured Class: Barbarian Here are the Jaghut and his little brother the Jhag. This is my first attempt at one the founding races and I tried to make it seem a bit more powerful then the Tiste invaders. One thing I'm still not sure on is giving them bonuses to some skills. Maybe Use Magic Device? Another way I will try to represent the power difference is with Omtose Phellack being a more powerful warren then the Kuralds. |
