| doomXL11-16-07, 02:53 PM | I dont like tiny things...In real life I dont care if someone is tiny but it this game I do...Dont ask me why. I dont really know myself. Anyway I wanted to be a ranger for my next campaign (monster hunting) I really want to be a warforged scout but since its only 3 feet tall...Bleh. So what Im trying to say is do you think If I just changed the size to medium And make up a backstory of how I was specifically made to do this or that it would make a difference? I wont change the stats or anything but I just wanted to know what you guys thought. Thank you for helping me -Griffin |

The racial ability differences are mostly from that, even. He has a very good point. The only real difference a warforged and a warforged scouct besides the size (+1 AC, + to hide, - to grapple, -10-ft speed, etc.) is their ability score modifiers. A Warforged has: +2 Con, -2 Wis, -2 Cha A Warforged Scout has: +2 Dex, -2 Str, -2 Wis, -2 Cha. If you look on page 291 of the Monster Manual I you will see a table which explains the changes to statistics when you change the size of a creature (Table 4-2: Changes To Statistics By Size). If you were to change a creature from Small to Medium size it's ability score modifiers would change as follows: +4 Str, -2 Dex, +2 Con, AC/Attack -1. Therefore you would end up with a warfored with: +2 Str, +2 Con, -2 Wis, -2 Cha, and no adjustment due to size. It would almost be exactly the same as a normal sized warforged (+2 Con, -2 Wis, -2 Cha) except for the +2 to strength. Like most medium sized creatures it's base land speed would also be 30ft, it would have no penalty to grapple, it would have no bonus to hide, all items and equipment would be sized for normal creatures, and it's carrying capacity would be normal (no 3/4). Both the warforged and the warforged scout have the same special qualities (Composite plating, light fortification, and living construct traits), and neither is allowed any bonus languages. The only meaningful difference I see between the warforged and the warforged scout is that the warforged's favored class is Fighter, and the warforged scout's favored class is Rogue. If this is the problem you are having try talking to your DM about, and ask him if you could have it's favored class changed to rogue. Backstory wise it shouldn't be difficult. They are robots who were built for specific tasks after all. Maybe the nation which made your warforged character did not like the idea of wasting resources creating tiny little things (like yourself), so they preferred to make even their scouts medium sized. He might be medium sized, but internally he has all the workings for a stealth spy/scout like most nations would put into a small sized warforged. Maybe the nation believed they should be medium sized so they could better fight their way out of trouble, or maybe the nation sees size as a sign of strength and dominance and they see small things as weak and worthless. Maybe he was made by a tribe of giants or ogres to spy on rival communities of similarly sized big creatures, so for them a medium sized warforged suits the same purpose as a small sized warforged would suit a race of medium sized creatures. The sky is the limit. :) |

Oh and celestialkin, the favored class only really matters on multiclassing, so even that technically isn't a bad thing for this character concept depending on how the character moves up in levels. doomXL, how are you planning to proceed with your scout-type character? |
