I was wondering if u could give me a progression or stats and lvl adjust in order to make a medusa character,my friends and I can't agree on a way to do it.

There's a reason the MM doesn't list stats for it. Its not really suited for PCism. Thats what "Level Adjustment: —" means. It would be a shame to turn your party into stone... And all the shopkeepers... You get the idea.

But I dunno. You take the 6 monstrous humanoid levels and maybe a +3 LA. Dex +4 Con +2 Int +2 Wis +2 Cha +4 Petrifying gaze (DC 1/2 level + Cha), poison (DC 1/2 level + Con), Darkvision 60 ft, moves at 30. Class skills, saves and everything else is all in the Monster Manual.

If you look inside the Savage Species there is a progression for it, and the LA is +4

There are also is a feat that allows the medusa charater too limit the gaze to an active one.

I know of ways too stop the vision or at least supress it when need be.but if one of you could post the progression for me that would be great, money's tight at the moment and i can't get savage species.thx

There is nothing in the Medusa entry to suggest that it cannot suppress it, mechanically speaking, by its own will.

There is a nice little catch about gaze attacks that few people seem to be aware of.

Unless specified otherwise, a creature with a gaze attack can control its gaze attack and “turn it off ” when so desired. Allies of a creature with a gaze attack might be affected. All the creature’s allies are considered to be averting their eyes from the creature with the gaze attack, and have a 50% chance to not need to make a saving throw against the gaze attack each round.

So no such thing as "accidentally" petrifying your party.:)

Lets bold the other half of your reference and notice you don't accidentally petrify your party... half of the time.

Where is that quote from Runestar ?

It's not included in the text of Gaze attacks from the monster manual

It only mentions that allies always have the 50% miss chance for everting their eyes (I assume because they are aware of the attack, and take pains to avoid it) or that the creature can choose to "veil" their gaze so as not to effect allies (which would require un-veiling themselves to use the attack).

Also (as Kobold Avenger mentioned) there is a feat called "Narrowed gaze" that allows you to "limit your attack to an active gaze" Doing so prevents you from accidentally affecting friends with your gaze.

It seems unlikely they would create a feat, to allow something that you can allready do :thinks:

Take a looky at this .......

No, people are reading too much into it.

Those creatures with a Gaze attack can turn it off at will - it doesn't affect anyone. However, when they turn it "on" ... their allies are automatically considered averting their eyes, and thus get that 50% miss chance.

When alllies avert their eyes for the 50%, their enemies have 50% concealment from their attacks too.

ok thx btw u need a direct line of sight for a gaze attack to work so if u use something like a veil or even a really dark pair of glasses then it will be "supressed".
