How do you make a mind flayer? What kind of racial stats does it get?

It should say so in the monster manual.

Ask for a refund if your MM is broken. It might be referred to as "illithid".

Oh, it is in the core MM as Mind Flayer. It is not part of the Open Gaming License and thus not found in the SRD if that is the "Monster Manual" one is looking in.

If you buy the right book, you might be able to reverse engineer a statblock into the base mind flayer. I did that with the Umber Hulk.

Expanded Psionics Handbook also lists the rules for a psionic mind flayer.

they are created by ceremorphisis (Lords of Madness). basically, a spawning tank where "tadpole" mindflayers are deposited from assexual parent/donor, they swim around a while during a culling process; insures strong samples/good genes.
ultimately surviving tadpoles are plucked from a tank and desposited in ear canal, nostril, orbital (eye) regions of bound/incapacitated host, typically from med. size humanoid (commonly, drow, human, deurgar, goblinoid, etc.)
slowly but surely they eat away at some sections and reprogram the rest of the brain until tadpole parasite assumes full control, sprouts his squidiness, and heightens laten psionic potential...

and viola! mini-Cthulu rip off!

as for Character Gen they are like ECL 15 or something obscene. all the stuff they get...
+7 LA i think, and bunch of HD, (Su), and (Sp)...very brutal, very hard to kill.

Try savage species pg 185 it has a level by level break down of the Mind flayer. I personally always wanted to try it but never found a campaign that it fit into. But MM5 has a new cult of mind flayers in it. They are more willing to work with other evil creatures than normal mind flayers. If you are looking to play one you may want to look over it.
