So I was thinking of making a monk/cleric (as inlfuenced by a thread on the Class and Prestige class forum). I was wondering what opinions were regarding using a Githzerai or a Half-Celestial as the race.

I'm a bit wary of using the half-celestial race for a monk (high LA, broadly spread abilities), but a githzerai monk should do well. Mind you, for a githzerai, monk/Psionic Fist going into slayer, sanctified mind, or elocator might be more fitting, but it's your choice.

08-23-07, 11:27 AM Ok, a cleric is naturally proficient with Heavy Armor. So unless you want an absolute mobility, you will need to have a wisdom of 26 to have the same AC than a cleric in full plate, and that's without any shield...

The half-celestial gives you +4 WIS, which should somewhat help you reaching this high wisdom, but is +4 Level Adjustment. That means a level 1 half-celestial cleric would be the equivalent of a level 5 character. That gives you about 8 HP where the rest of the crew has something like 24 HP. But it's true the DR/Magic and the +4 to CON should help you. Though Some DM might consider using a +3 LA for a wingless half-celestial...

Another point to consider is Casting Levels. The higher ECL your race is, the more Casting Levels you loose. However, since you seem to be aiming for a multi-class character anyway, this should have few consequences.

For a cleric monk, Asamir would be a nice choice. Githzerai and half celestial (maybe even a combo of the two?) have a pretty high LA though, keeep that in mind
